Toasted Marshmallow

Black Green Blend by DAVIDsTEA

Toast master
Everyone loves a camping trip in the fall. Fresh air, beautiful scenery, hungry bears – ah, the great outdoors. Well, okay, we’ll admit it. We’re only in it for the marshmallows. Nothing beats a freshly toasted marshmallow straight from the campfire. But what if you want to satisfy your sweet tooth without going camping? Try this tea. It’s a sweet, toasty black tea blend with cinnamon, brittle and…you guessed it! Mini marshmallows. Now you can enjoy your favourite outdoorsy treat without a hungry bear in sight.

Ingredients: Black tea, marshmallows, brittle pieces, cinnamon, allspice, kukicha green tea.

I went into this one with trepidation, having so far very bad luck with any of the teas David has done with “brittle pieces”. Dry the scent doesn’t match what I have ever had as a toasted marshmallow, but really, how much of a scent does one have other than burnt sugar?

First sips I was . . . mixed. It didn’t suck, so I sipped on, adding a half teaspoon of sugar. This brought out a few flavours but still it wasn’t my toasted marshmallow. It was more as if the marshmallow’d been cooked in an oven with spices rather than open a fire. It was missing that smokey amazing goodness which was the whole reason I’d roast marshmallows in the first place. I’m the queen of doing them so they’re just ever so lightly brown and are soooo delicious and no burnt taste to be found, just smoke.

I’m still on the search for my summer marshmallow tea. I have the custom adagio mix here still, which has the smoke but not the sweet, so I may try them together to see what that gives me. Maybe my marshmallow dreams still can come true?

I’m planning to drinking marshmallow teas today! Marshmallow Monday? Woot woot!

DRY: Super cinnamony sweet, smokey edge. Lots of marshmallows!

STEEPED: Those marshmallows all dissolved, oooh yeah! The light brown tea smells of spice, sweet, and kinda chocolatey.

TASTE: Light black roasty tea. Hint of cinnamon, and light marshmallow sweetness. The tea and flavorings are really light and kinda watery.

COMMENTS: I can see others liking this tea for the subtle flavor, but this is just too watery for me to really get into it. If it wasn’t watery this would be really good!

Do not have this tea while eating fresh pineapple!

I found it out the hard way, during lunch eeeeeeggg! They just do not go together at all and it’s quite awful.

I received some of this in a swap and loved it. I thought I posted a note. I feel that I remember it being marshmallow like. My first impression was that unlike two other smore teas I’ve tried these marshmallows actually melted.

This time around although very yummy, I didn’t find it as good as the first time. Although I didn’t really get to enjoy it the way it deserves between all the hustle and bustle of work and my sickly feeling tummy. I kinda wish I would actually get sick so I had a legitimate reason not to go to work, even though there is no one to cover for me.

Anywho, I will wait to give this a numerical rating until I have had the time to enjoy it properly.

You know how sometimes you just KNOW you are going to like a tea. It’s toasted marshmallow? How can it be anything but delicious. I love toasted marshmallows. I may or may not have been seen toasting marshmallows over my stove coils, I love them that much. I was so prepared to love this tea.

And then I tasted it. It was not bad. But I forgot that when something has marshmallow in the name, and has mini marshmallows in the dry mix, it is going to be the dreaded “s” word—sweet. I just am not down with sweet in my tea. I despise sweet tea with a passion. Chai, I will grudgingly admit, is robust enough to stand up to a little sweetness. But otherwise, sweeteners can stay away from my tea, thankyouverymuch.

I have to admit, it wasn’t bad, so much as just not tea-like for me. I’m not going to get rid of it, I didn’t dislike it as much as I expected to when I realized it was sweetened (there was a vague moment of confusion when I looked at my Breville and noticed the tea was opaque, which led to that “uh oh” moment). I think if I were more used to sweetener in my tea, I would have really liked it, instead of finding it “not bad”.

Prepared with 750 ml of water with 3 t of dry mix in my Breville.

First time i opened my bag i could not resist eating some of the little white goodness hoping the tea will taste the same and it does!

That one really good i love how the marshmallow dissolve to give a good sweetness to the black tea maybe even a little to sweet for me as i don’t put sugar in anything but as a dessert tea it’s perfect.

The only problem i could see ( and that probably just me lol) is since the marshmallow dissolve re steeping not gonna taste the same like many other tea with powder or ingredient like that but i love marshmallow too much i hope that one will become permanent or i have to make reserve

Mmm. This is nice and sweet, and warm and… toasty?

I’m still sick, but my throat is much improved, and over the past two days I have watched an episode of Sherlock, 1.5 episodes of Doctor Who and half a season of Game of Thrones. Add in a few hours of Guild Wars, a quarter of Northanger Abbey and being able to drink again, and I’m doing pretty good.

Mostly. This baby has been making it extra hard relax lately.

Anyway I was excited to drink tons of tea but didn’t want to drink something I couldn’t appreciate. I’m happy I chose this. It’s comforting, relaxing and good for a treat. I’d probably grab 10g of this next year.

This one was interesting and I didn’t hate it, but I just haven’t been won over. I think I have an issue with some particular variety of cinnamon, found in this and in a lot of 52Teas teas. It just leaves a weird feeling in my throat and doesn’t appeal to me the way cinnamon usually does. Anyway, the tea is earthy, and it’s sweet at the same time. It wins points for being an interesting combination, and because I like the idea of it.

Is it just me, or does tea taste better out of a thermos? I brought this with me to the ROM today (free for students on Tuesdays!) and it seemed way nicer than when I tried it the first time, in a mug. I still didn’t get much marshmallow taste from it though. It actually seems very similar to Glitter and Gold to me, but sweeter, and with a little more creaminess. Well I like it anyway, even if it’s not super amazing. And I’m so happy that it’s finally cold enough to carry hot tea around again!

Preparation: Without tiny marshmallows.
With added stevia and vegan creamer.

YUMMY. It does taste like marshmallows a little, only with added smokiness and allspice. It reminds me vaguely of eggnog, or even of pumpkin pie. It’s kind of creamy, spicy, and comforting. The kukicha helps balance the earthiness a little. Who would’ve thought?

After a few sips it’s clear that this one is for cold days.

Fall is here and I have been craving smores like crazy. This tea definitely hit the spot. It was super sweet and definitely brought my favorite fireside treat mind.

Okay, so, here is number 2 for the fall collection.
First of all- I steeped this tea for 4.5 minutes and it is quite weak. So would suggest maybe 5-5.5 minutes.
Dry Leaf Smell- cinnamon, and marshmallow pieces
Taste: Mostly cinnamon, with the sweetness from the marshmallows- no sweetener needed here!
Colour- Foggy brown.

This tea tastes almost tastes exact same as it smells- which to me is great because it will give you a good idea whether you will like the tea or not.

In conclusion, this tea is great for the fall time and it almost resembles a cinnamon chai. I really like this one and will most likely re-purchase it before the fall comes to an end. However, I don’t think this really tastes like toasted marshmallows, but it is tasty none the less. Have a great night.

I don’t know why, but for some reason I had really low expectations for this tea.

I think it’s the cinnamon and allspice that is throwing me off. I find that this tastes somehow more like cinnamon apple and less like the campfire s’mores that I would associate with a name like Toasted Marshmallow. I think Della Terra’s S’mores tea captures that much better, but I much prefer DavidsTea’s black tea base.

Anyway, my 52teas S’mores Genmaicha finally cleared customs and is in Canada, on its way to me now… so maybe THAT one will impress me. I hope, I hope!

Finished off the last of my sample today – thanks, Courtney, for giving me a chance to try that one!

Definitely not something I’ll be ordering, but I can see why people like it. It’s sweet and flavorful and a nice dessert-y type tea.

Thanks to Shmiracles for this sample :)

I love that the marshmallows melt right into the tea. This one smells really wonderful. It really is reminding me of camping (though the last time I was camping was years ago). It brews up a bit murky but the scent makes up for that.

Hmm I’m getting a bizarre medicinal taste that’s reminding me of rooibos. Perhaps that is the roasted green tea in there? Or the allspice? I’m honestly not sure. I’ll let it cool some more before I take another sip.

This tea is super good!

Got 50g of this, not knowing what to expect from it.
Smell: Allspice is definitely the first thing that comes to me. It’s quite strong, but it’s not overwhelming by any means.
Taste is quite nice. I like it. I added just a small amount of rock sugar and some milk and it was a nice creamy tea. I found it to not be a strong marshmallow tea, but it was a nice tea. It was kind of more like a smores, without the chocolate.
I’ll definitely enjoy this tea.

As a side note, I really love this rock sugar instead of white sugar, but does anyone else find it frustrating that it takes so long for it to dissolve? Or is it just me?

After having a simply terrible few days..I definitely needed to crack into my fall collection some more..

I don’t care for the smell that much to be honest it smells like these Polish pastries that are really yummy actually just is like a bad smell version of it…but I’m in need of something truly new and this seems to be it.I want to eat the tiny marshmallows out of the pouch but I’ll restrain myself.

Once steeped the marshmallows have completely dissolved yet the liquor doesn’t seem too sediment laden at all.The brew itself smells sweet and spicy…perfect for Fall.Almost Chai-like.

As for taste it’s nice.Smoky and sweet.
It doesn’t blow my mind and it seems like a poor man’s Glitter and Gold.
I LOVE Glitter and Gold and I don’t need another similar black tea that’s not as delicious.
Because Glitter and Gold is rated highly this will be close..but no cigar.

sweet! spicy! toasty!
not what i was expecting for a marshmallow tea, but something different altogether, and i really do like it.
the cinnamon and allspice really bring in that campfire element, though that wouldn’t come to mind if i was asked to describe a toasted marshmallow. more chai flavoured to me.
i just realized that there’s no chocolate in this, and i think that’s what i was expecting; for it to be more of a s’mores tea. maybe i’ll play around with blending it with one of davids chocolate teas and see how that goes.
sorry to ramble! it’s a good one!!

The first thing that I noticed about this tea was that the flavour reminds me a lot of the taste of a liqueur. I am getting some chocolatey notes as well. I’m getting a blunt and very bitter edge on the finish. I can feel the spices peeking through at the end of the sip. I am also detecting the green tea flavour near the end of the sip. The black tea is present in the after-taste, which is quite pleasant in itself.

The sweetness has an odd after-taste trail.

1 tablespoon used for 375 ml of water

Thin and dilute-tasting. Caramel-like light sweetness. Spices in the background accentuated at the end of the sip.

May benefit from a longer infusion time as well as agitating tea while brewing to better dissolve marshmallow pieces.

As a lover of cinnamon teas I’d rank this as a mellower version of Glitter and Gold, my first favorite tea. The sweetness of the miniature marshmallows provides that special boost for the allspice and cinnamon in this black/green tea blend. I could see myself taking this along with me in my travel mug throughout the season as I strolled through the nearby golf course trail while enjoying the vivid changing leaves. To say nothing of the feeling that would envelop inside when the smell of chimney smoke began lingering on the brisk autumn air. The tea would be even more wonderful. A well recommended addition that I do hope will become a permanent part of the menu at DAVIDs.

Am I supposed to have this while camping? This tea smells a bit like hazelnut chai, and marshmallows. The flavour is pretty sweet, and I need to try this with one of my chocolate teas.
