From DAVIDsTEA

Dough it up

One of the best things about winter is baking tons of cookies. Or more specifically, snacking on the cookie dough. But when you don’t have time to fire up the oven and get baking, this deliciously sweet white tea blend is the next best thing. With almonds, walnuts, caramel, brittle and chocolate chips, it’s like brewing up an instant sugar cookie. Only this version is even good for you – it’s the perfect guilt-free treat to get you through the winter. Don’t forget to lick the spoon! Limited edition.

Ingredients: White tea, cocoa peel, almonds, walnuts, cream caramel pieces, roasted cocoa brittle, chocolate chips, artificial flavouring*.

Allergens: Soy, dairy and tree nuts

Amazingly, this tea does smell remarkably like chocolate chip cookie dough. It makes me want to bake something. I was also happy to see the large leaves in it — those always tend to make me happy in general. Really, if not for the fact that it was a seasonal tea (keyword: was), I’d be suggesting this to a friend or two who I know are known to buy containers of cookie dough to eat as is. I can’t say that it tastes exactly like cookie dough, but then a lot of what makes cookie dough wonderful is the texture, and. Well. That doesn’t really translate into a liquid well. Still, it’s a good approximation for tea.

I felt compelled to write a quick note on Cookie Dough after DavidsTea informed me that it would not be returning to their collection this year. Despite still owning a good 300g of the tea from stocking up over the summer, this distresses me a lot! It continues to be my favourite tea; one that I think anyone who is generally into creamy or nutty teas should try.

Cookie dough makes a wonderful latte. I make a pot of this using a generous amount of the dry leaf (not quite double the suggested amount, but close to it!) steeped at 100*C and then I add hot milk, or cream if I have it. I usually add a little brown sugar, although it is fairly sweet on its own. I leave it to steep for eight to ten minutes and drink it hot.

The flavour itself is not exactly reminiscent of chocolate chip cookie dough. The main notes I taste are sweet caramel and walnuts with chocolate and a little vanilla lingering pleasantly in the background. This tea is certainly cookie-like, but perhaps tastes more like if you removed the most of the chips from the dough and added chopped nuts. You don’t really taste the tea base; it almost reminds me of white hot chocolate.

I drink this stuff whenever I need to relax or feel better. My only complaint would be the huge pieces of walnut in this blend! I’ve noticed this in other teas as well. Why doesn’t DavidsTea just crush them up? But that isn’t my top priority. First, my favourite tea needs to get back on the shelves, please!

Another sample from Shmiracles.

This one smelled… funky, in an almost unpleasant way, when I opened the package. Once brewed, it tastes okay, but only vaguely like cookie dough. I added some honey and cream, and it’s closer to cookie dough, but I don’t know if I’d identify that if the label didn’t tell me it was supposed to be cookie dough.

I’ve had a few cups of this tea now. When I used the suggested water temp my tea got a bit bitter. This time I forgot about the kettle and brewed the tea after the water had cooled down for at least 5 or so minutes the tea tasted like cookie dough. The smell is amazing it actually does smell like cookie dough. It’s a nice flavoured white tea!

I can’t believe I still have this one. So I made it into a latte. haha Still on my latte kick. I think this will be one of many today.

Anyways, This tea still tastes so good. I’m surprised it still have good flavour as it’s not the newest tea ever… But either way, I’m enjoying this one as a latte. It’s a little strange having a white tea as a latte, but it works. Maybe it’s ‘cause I make them nice and strong that it works, but either way, I’m glad it does.

I need to finish this one. It’s time to say goodbye.

Wow, I totally forgot about this one haha. Good that it hasn’t gone off after all this time.

TheKesser

Yeah I’m really surprised it hasn’t. I thought the walnuts would have been so off so I wasn’t expecting much at first. I’m glad it turned out alright.

I remember getting this one made at DAVIDS maybe 2 summers ago but they put too hot of water on the leaves and it burned it- thus ruining the experience for me :(

Feeling like a dessert tonight, and the oven’s broken, so I decided on a tea substitute.

The last time I tried this, I followed the brewing suggestions of boiling water to steep, but I didn’t really like the results, so today I went with 180-190. A good thing, since it turned out much better.

I let it steep about five minutes and inhaled the strong smell of cookie dough. Yum. While it was still hot, it tasted more like chocolate/caramel/walnut, but as it cooled a little, it gained that distinctive cookie dough taste.

Next time I’ll try brewing it at an even lower temperature.

Out of the Winter Collection (besides Chocolate Chili Chai), this is the one that I have used the most. I really like this one. Too bad it is only out for a limited time because I really do like it. I find it tastes just like it smells…like cookies! I was expecting it to be really sweet and it wasnt. Even with agave it was great!

I received a sample of this in an order. Simply put, I don’t love it. I’m not even sure if I like it.

Dry, it smells strongly of, yes, cookie dough. It’s chocolatey and a little vanilla-y. Brewed for 4 minutes, it smells strongly of baking chocolate chip cookies. It smells like it’s going to be sweet and amazing, but it’s not. I tasted it plain, but the cookie dough flavour barely comes through the somewhat bitter, astringent white tea base. I added some honey to see if that would help, then added some cream. I’m left with a bitter white tea that smells strongly of baking cookies.

I don’t think I’ll be buying any of this one. :/

Edit: As it cools I’m getting the cookie dough flavour on the back of my tongue, but I still don’t like it. It’s almost an aftertaste. I think I’ll be having something else to clear my palate after I finish this.

Had this one to-go from David’s today and my, my, my! It doesn’t have a strong aroma, but once you have your first swallow all you can taste is a lovely sweet, nutty, cookie-doughy goodness. I think this is one that I might try to get into my cupboard the next time I get to buy tea!!
