From DAVIDsTEA

A sweet romance

We’re still searching for the secret to eternal bliss, but we’re pretty sure one cup of this blend will get you at least five minutes’ worth. It all starts with the very best leaves: a premium oolong from China’s Fujian Province called Huang Jin Gui. A popular wedding gift in China, Huang Jin Gui is prized for its pretty yellow colour and romantic floral scent. Here we bring out this special leaf’s orchid aroma with a touch of vanilla. The result? A perfectly balanced, subtle cup that’s equal parts rich, creamy and floral. Feeling blissful yet?

Ingredients: Huang Jin Gui Oolong from Anxi in Fujian Province, natural vanilla flavouring.

I took advantage of DT’s recent F&F sale to try a few new-to-me teas in an effort to find teas that I can enjoy without the addition of sweetener. I’ve tried a few oolongs in the past and haven’t been overly fond of them. After hearing people rave about this tea on a FB group I decided to add it to my list, and I must admit that this tea is delicious and very smooth. I might have to rethink my stance on oolongs. The vanilla flavor is sweeter and more dessert-y than I was expecting. I imagine this would be very tasty with sweetener and that it would work really well as a latte. I’m glad I gave it a go. I’ll finish off the half ounce I purchased before making a final decision, but this might become a part of my regular morning tea rotation.

This is my all time absolute favorite tea! It’s my go to in my daily morning routine, my pick me up on a bad day, and my show off tea when I have guests over.

I like to drink this tea with a bit of milk. The DavidsTea saleslady described it to me as a vanilla cupcake in tea form – and I still haven’t found a better description than that! I find that adding some milk brings out the creaminess from the vanilla. Note: I say cupcake but it’s not a sweet tea.

Personally, I like to steep it with a bit less than the recommended amount of tea leaves. If you add too much tea leaves, the vanilla flavor becomes overcome by the oolong.

This tea can be resteeped but the vanilla flavors will be basically non-existent after the first steep and the oolong nature of this tea really stands out.

I went to David’s Tea yesterday and I was going to have a guest come over later so I wanted a caffeine boost! I order this tea iced cause I’ve never had it before. I didn’t care for it at the first sip but it grew on me as I kept going. It was more vegetal when I started drinking it but got more vanilla-y with each sip. It is much better hot, just finished my cosy mug now ^^ btw my guest canceled last minute so I went back and bought an herbal tea to ready myself for a relaxing night in~

Ooooh, this is nice. :)
Creamy but light, and nothing weird going on in the flavouring department…just a slight hint of vanilla.
Another tea from Plunkybug (thank you! :) ) that I really enjoy…
The delicate nature of this tea is really nice….

Plunkybug

It’s a fave! I sent you the last I had, but I refilled right away! :)

DeliriumsFrogs

Oh, that’s so kind of you to send me the last! I’m super glad you refilled right away! :D

Plunkybug

Well, it was a nice sample size and I am able to refill locally quite easily, so it was no problem. :)

I use this one to study because I feel like eating vanilla pudding while drinking it and it’s pretty cool.

Initially, I hated this tea. I would use it in a travel mug and let it steep through my commute (not the best idea!). But like any good cup of tea, the key is not to over steep and to wait for it to cool a bit. It makes a huge difference. You get a smooth vanilla flavor after a minute or two cooling off. The airy vanilla flavor makes for a good morning breakfast tea in the summers. And I recommend resteeping it at least once after you have your first cup. One review said the steeps are weaker in flavor, but you still get a nice full flavor anyways.

Overall, it is a good tea on nice spring or summer mornings and it is a tea you need to watch the steeping time. I don’t recommend using it in a travel mug cause the leaves can’t expand and breathe as well.

This tea is delicious. My uncle gave some to my mom for Christmas, and it was so good my boyfriend went out and bought some more!

It’s very smooth and slightly sweet – good before bed, or after dinner as dessert. This is my favourite studying tea. Heck, it’s my favourite anytime tea. ;)

I’ve never eaten an orchid but if they were edible I’m sure this is what they would taste like. Amber in color. Light floral scent. Tastes of… so many flavors. Yogurt, cake, orchid, vanilla, and something I can’t quite make out. Oh maybe that’s the oolong. How interesting…

Another from u/RedSpaceMagic. This tea has been a hit here. I’ve made a few pots with friends and it has gotten a lot of compliments.

It’s a pretty, loosely-rolled oolong. Looks almost like collard greens as it unfurls in the infuser. I served it in a glass teapot, putting the pale yellowy green on display. The aroma is like vanilla ice cream with a hint of springlike earthiness. A lot like the scent of crushed or freshly-rained-on grass. The flavor is creamy, delicious vanilla followed by the oolong’s notes of hay. It’s almost like vanilla pudding or something like that.

This has inspired me to try more vanilla oolongs. It could be the beginning of a new favorite thing… Any recommendations?

Other than DavidsTea’s discontinued Vanilla Oolong (dark oolong), I actually don’t really know of any – and I love that profile, so it’s definitely on my radar!

I went for my interview today at DavidsTea and the manager forgot about it so I didn’t get my real interview today! I’m hoping they call me back, and if they don’t I’ll probably call them haha! Oh well, I got to pick up a few more little gifts for people I want to remember for Christmas and a to-go of this lovely Vanilla Orchid. I will admit the more traditional, delicate teas make me nervous because I like a lot of flavor but I think my taste buds are expanding their tastes. Initially on the sip it was straight oolong flavor with some orchid in the background, then on the finish you could taste a faint vanilla. It was delicate and mildly sweet and delicious! I won’t keep this stocked for everyday use, but more for a treat.
