Super Ginger (organic)

Herbal Rooibos Blend by DAVIDsTEA

Your late-night superhero The idea came at about 2 in the morning one chilly night. David had a cold. He’d been drinking cup after cup of ginger tea, but there was a problem. His ginger tea had a ton of caffeine. His throat felt great, but he couldn’t get any sleep. Something had to be done. So he decided to create an herbal ginger tea – the spiciest, most comforting tisane he could imagine, with lots of ginger, peppercorns and green rooibos. And, most importantly, zero caffeine. The result? A cold remedy so soothing…you might even say it has superpowers.

Ingredients: Ginger, green rooibos, pink peppercorns, black pepper, white pepper.

YES! I finally obtained 100 g of this tea today at my local store. I love ginger, so this has been on my shopping list since I saw it!

Dry, this smells super peppery and gingery. Yum! It makes me cough and my nose runs, and I love it! So nice and spicy. The wet smell is more ginger, the pepper has toned down a bit.

Mmmmm this is quite delicious. As a massive ginger fan, this is excellent. There is a strong ginger flavor, but it is enhanced with the spices, they are just adding a nice amount of heat in my throat. Not enough for me to be coughing, just warming. I will definitely add some honey to the later part of my cup, and also may try a re-steep to see if the pepper comes out even more. Haha, I could even chop up some fresh ginger and add it in if I want, my boyfriend is making a stir-fry with it in it! Haha, I’ll save that for another time though.

Overall, this is pretty darn awesome. I’m very happy I picked up a tin of this, I rarely buy tins at Davids, but this will be excellent. If you love ginger, go for this tea!! I’m rating this pretty high, as it’s almost my favorite ginger tea yet (Verdant’s winter spa blend is just barely in first…for now)

ETA: I added in a bit of honey – the planets have aligned. Almost. Haha the ginger really comes out with the addition, but the spices tone down a little, but man, I do like ginger. :)

ETA again: This holds up fairly well to a re-steep. The flavors are slightly muted, but overall it’s still pretty tasty!

Had a cup of this in the morning for energy. Going to try to get to the mall today to get some new clothes, as I desperately need some new work-like attire! So this was my choice for some thirst quenching energy, sans caffeine. I didn’t even add honey today and it was awesome. I love ginger teas, especially this one! See previous notes :)

4 hr road trip to my boyfriends parents today and this with some honey was perfect for the long ride. I brought 5 of my favorite teas for my week in the States, sadly this isn’t one I could fit in (it’s in a tin rather than a bag) but it was tasty for the trip. See previous notes on this tea :)

Yay for tea! This is a backlog from earlier today – I took this tea on my way to my interview 2 hrs away, caught a ride with my mom at least, and after we went to DAVIDsTEA and I got her to get some of this awesome tea! I put a lot of honey in it today for my nerves though, so not a whole lot of ginger. Also suffered a bit from travel mug syndrome, but I got a NEW Timolino today so hopefully it will taste more like tea and not like old icky thermos. Yay!

Yumm I missed this tea last week. Today it has some intense ginger earthiness going on, and i added honey to my travel mug. Another interview today, unfortunately didn’t get the last one, so this is my interview day tea haha. Good for settling my stomach and enjoying! Can’t wait to get a bit of davidstea’s new totm, another with ginger! :) see previous notes on this tea.

With wind chill, it’s – 43 C here today. Not a day I wanted to even step outside, let alone walk 10 mins to the train for class! So I was between making this and coco chai, but the spicy ginger won out. I added some honey and am drinking this and sneezing in class, i saw a giant black pepper ball when I steeped it lol. This hopefully will keep me a bit warm, i dont get to go home until dinnertime! A long, cold day ahead..hopefully I don’t get frostbite at any point. See previous notes on this tea, thank goodness for hot tea!

I over caffeineated yesterday, oops haha, stomach was still in a yucky way this morning so I made this for work. I still love this tea, it’s especially good with honey. Yum, i will hopefully never be out of this, it also helped my tummy! See previous notes on this tea :)

Wow, yum. This is a good gingery tea. I didn’t steep it too long, so it may be able to produce a stronger flavour than what I got, but it’s quite gingery enough for me without being overly biting/spicy. It tastes like liquid ginger candies that my mom likes to buy at asian grocery stores.

Although I don’t think it would be necessary for me to keep a stash of this around, I’d definitely recommend this tea to any ginger lover! I just very infrequently crave ginger, so it would just take up space.

ETA: Second infusion, infused for maybe 5-6 mins? is potent! Much more bite here. I think this would be a great blend to mix with others that need a bit more ginger (if dehydrated or fresh ginger is not available, as obviously those would be even more potent).

i brewed this at 10am and just rested the lid on top of my timolino. and now it’s still too hot to drink.
not complaining!! maybe i should buy stock in timolino. or go work for the company. or get a timolino tattoo.

this tea is F-ing awesome.
it has a wonderful teeny tiny amount of sweetness.
so glad I got it.

(i was a dance major in high school and college. for perspective, i was so serious at the time that i almost went to Julliard.)
last weekend i took my first dance class in over 15 years.
it was mentally hard cuz i’m not used to memorizing combinations and i was very anxious, but it was also surprisingly doable physically.
during the class i was stressed and being hard on myself but i knew i was gonna have to experience my baggage in order to get through it and do it. hello dance baggage. whomp whomp.
but it wasn’t nearly as haunting as i thought it was going to be. and i feel so excited for the next class.
it was a Horton style class. and i hope to go for months and months to come.

This is absolutely the ginger tea I have been waiting for my entire life. I am going to buy some fresh lemons tomorrow and try it with lemon juice as well as honey.

Nice strong ginger tea. I like ginger a lot. The spice and sweetness of ginger is there, and some peppery-ness remains in my mouth after each sip. I added some honey, it’s pretty yum. Would still be good straight. I will probably pick some up for colds because it would definitely clear your sinuses.

Sipdown #8! I chose this one because I actually love it and needed to finish the bag so I can get a bit more to stash away for colds. It’s strong, spicy, and deliciously gingery. I think when I ever do get sick (knock on wood) this and Cold 911 will be my go to teas. Should I get 50 grams, or just 30 to have around for whenever I need it?

Dry this tea is so strong, so much ginger and pepper! There were lots of red and black peppercorns in my bag. At first I took a bit too strong of a smell, definitely made my eyes water and nose burn haha. Steeped it smells less strong, but still lots of ginger. At first it tastes like ginger, ginger and more ginger with a hint of pepper. The pepper gets stronger in the after taste. Gives some nice heat to the back of my throat. This tea definitely settles my tummy! Loving this tea, so good!

There is something I really don’t like about the way this tea smells… it reminds me of baby powder or something. But it tastes alright. It’s a little sweet and verrrryy peppery. Usually I love ginger teas (plus ginger is my remedy for basically everything) but I think the green rooibos is throwing me off. Still enjoyable, and I think it would be great with honey.

There’s an artificial chicken-soup like overtone in the aroma and aftertaste that seems out of place in this tisane. It is quite unsettling. I’m having a lot of difficulty in finishing my cup. Maybe I picked up a bad batch of this?

I still have some left in the sample that I purchased that I will save for another day.

I tried this as a free sample during my most recent visit to the DAVIDsTEA in NYC on Bleecker Street. I can’t say enough good things about that location. I’ve been there twice in the last 10 months, and it’s been the highlight of my trips to New York.

But on to the tea, this was SUPER spicy! The strongest flavor is definitely ginger, followed by strong spiciness, followed by green rooibos. My new husband really liked it a lot. :) He’s very fond of spicy things. For me, this was just okay. It’s definitely fun to try but not to drink on a regular basis.

However, if you’re like my husband and love spicy things, then you’d probably love this tea. Just look at the average rating! It’s one of the highest rated DAVIDsTEA teas! So, I say check it out and maybe you’ll fall in love. ;)

Went to the mall with my mom, and we had our usual order of sushi. Mom wanted to try tea with it, so we went to the Davids and ordered this tea to go (mom’s pick). This was the first time I had this tea. I already have a ginger I love at home but I thought this one was worth a try.
It definitely is SUPER ginger. It was very strong ginger, almost to the point where it burns your tongue, but not quite. It was very good and complemented the sushi very well. We had it plain, but I think it would have also been good with some sweetener in it. It doesn’t leave an aftertaste which is a bonus. Even though it is a strong flavoured tea, it almost helps to clear your palate after the sushi.
It got my nose to start running, so I can definitely see how it would be a good tea to have when sick or with a cold.
I did enjoy this tea but will probably not buy any for home. I think it is worth to have with the sushi lunch.

Edit note: I brought the tea bag home as Davids put lots of tea in the bag. It made an excellent re-steep. The only issue was I somehow got some soya sauce (from the sushi) on the bag, so it was a little bit salty. But it worked pretty good with the ginger tea. I might have stumbled on something here :P

Is it sad to say that I don’t find this gingery enough, despite it smelling super gingery, or is it a testament to how off my buds and sinuses are right now that I just can’t perceive how gingery it really is? That said, this will be a staple as a medicinal tea as I routinely get sinus upsets and nausea.

For the record…although this is a rooibos tea (green I think) I really don’t taste any of it under the ginger.

This is up there for one of my favourite teas ever. Mostly because tea companies have this hesitancy to tone down the ginger because the general public will find it too overbearing. Well… not this gal! I drink ginger tea at night. Not only do I love the smell and taste, but it also settles my stomach after a heavy or spicy meal. This blend includes tonnes of pepper, which adds a distinct bite. This comes through more on the second infusion (as others have mentioned).

I love that it is caffeine free too! Good ol’ rooibos. So I CAN drink this before bed without it giving me a sleepless night. This bad boy is part of my permanent collection. :)

Well, I’m back. My absence was caused for several reasons, but basically I haven’t been on Steepster since the beginning of February. I apologize to my trades ; everything is coming, i promise (cross my heart and hope to die, pinky swear, etc.) I missed it though!

This tea: I wanted something ginger, and rooibos sounded nice. But this tea is just sort of thin. There’s a lot of spice from the ginger and peppercorns, but I want something to ground it a little. I usually add some of my own rooibos to it. Sometimes I mix it with chai, which I really like. I would definitely get this in large amounts and add rooibos to it, because ginger is delicious.

Oh boy, this isn’t for the faint at heart. It smells like a ginger explosion and tastes of ginger-scented fire. It lingers on your tongue way after you’ve drunk the last sip. I love this, it’s exactly what I was looking for.

POW that’s ginger!
i can appreciate this bad boy for the herbal qualities, no caffeine to keep me awake when i have a sore throat! yay david!
luckily, i love ginger. if you don’t love ginger, don’t bother with this one. if you don’t MIND ginger, you will learn to love it ;) so cozy yet zingy, with just that hint of heat. awesome.

This smells SO gingery, it’s amazing.

I was drinking a tea with hibiscus (That wasn’t supposed to have hibiscus in it! ARGH!) and it was making my tummy upset, so I decided to try this one. I’ve added a little honey to it already while it’s steeping, since my favourite ginger “tea” is essentially a boatload of grated ginger and lots of dark brown sugar, with maybe a sprinkle of cinnamon.

Steeped, this is making my eyes water. In a good way! I mostly taste ginger, with a bit of a kick in the aftertaste from the pepper. It’s not as strong as just grating a boatload of ginger into a pot and boiling it with sugar (haha), but it’s really tasty. This is definitely something I’ll stock in my cupboard.

I didn’t pour all the tea in my pot, so the rest of it is going to steep till I remember about it and go back for it. I hope it gets ridiculously gingery.

I needed something to help me settle down tonight, and this won the draw.

Of course, as soon as I had decided upon tea I decided to make cream scones. Some advice: Any recipe that is for scones that calls for 1 tsp SALT per 2 cups flour is wrong. WRONG. I used 1/2 tsp salt, and it’s too salty. :/

Oh well. The tea is good, my bed is made, and it’s time to go sleep.

I made this one last night because I still wasn’t feeling well. It’s good, nice and gingery, but it feels thin. It’s a good one to have with honey when I don’t have the time or kitchen space to grate ginger and make ginger tea, but I wouldn’t call this one a favourite.

This tea is great. I love the hot-throat sensation… You can re-steep this 4+ times with success. It is an every day tea for me. Does anyone else feel that when they try a tea they like, they need to automatically get a tin of it, even if they can’t afford it and have around 10 cups left…. yup. Will power must be activated until I’ve totally run out. THEN A TIN WILL BE OBTAINED IMMEDIATELY.
… I’m not crazy.

Mild, yet spicy. Instant tingling sensation from all that ginger on the tongue and the back of the throat. A very clean ginger flavour, which would pair nicely with honey when sick I’m sure. Overall this tea is a nice and simple blend that I quite enjoyed! Sore throats be warned!
