A re-review of this tea.

I bagged the rest of this tea I have into paper filters for work (mixed w/a little lemon myrtle). Accidentally steeped a bag for more than 10 min and I was fearful of the ginger, but only to be surprised when I took a sip and it was sweet. I don’t add anything to my teas and had to double check the ingredients. Turned out DAVIDs re-blended the tea to include stevia. It never had any before (I double checked the description here on steepster that was posted 3 years ago) and I’m really disappointed cause I’m not into that. So I will use up this tea but I’m going to watch the steeping time, and otherwise not repurchase. Dropped the rating from 95 (the rating is at a 75- still relatively high cause I do like this tea when it’s not overstepped and sugary). Otherwise, yet ANOTHER tea from DAVIDs I’ve been forced to give up. I guess iHOT gets yet more of my business.

Why the hell do they do that?

Kristal

I think it’s promoting the sugary tea to individuals who normally don’t don’t drink tea. On the flip side it’s getting rid of long time customers like myself. I’ve spent less than $100 on them all year and I used to spent SEVERAL hundred at DAVIDs per year. The only teas I’m interested in buying from them are pretty much a few green teas and that’s it. They need to get rid of the sugar crap.

Evol Ving Ness

Between the imitation flavouring and sweetening to excess, they’ve lost me too. I also used to spend A LOT at DTs. I am done now unless there is a massive revolution in their tea selection.

Kristal

Agreed. Other than getting Butterfly jasmine with my frequent steeper points 2 weeks ago I haven’t bought anything from them since I think April?

rosebudmelissa

They should just start selling stevia rather than adding it to their blends.

Kristal

agreed!

Evol Ving Ness

hhahaha, yes! Stevia rocks perhaps.

I have a FS bag reward to pick up, but I am holding out for their plain teas coming out on August 2nd. The white peony sounds like it might be a good one.

Kristal

:O
I didn’t hear about that! That makes me excited…a chance for DAVIDs to redeem itself! The only problem is that those teas are usually limited time… I currently own 7 teas from DAVIDs and 3 of them are long gone, 1 is super ginger, another one is the glow (which I do like) + 2 straight greens so really only 3/7 teas I currently own from DAVIDs I would consider repurchasing (plus a few others I currently do not own). That’s pretty sad.

Evol Ving Ness

I look at all this as an exercise in non-attachment. All or most of my DT favourites are gone too. Thankfully, I have a bit of a stash left. Now, I tend to stop into the shop when new teas come out and pick up 6 to 10 grams of the one s that appeal to try out. Sometimes I get to them right away or not. Sadly, I didn’t get around to trying Lemon Poundcake, which I really really liked, until it was long gone from the stores. But truly, DTs for me is lower than fifty percent now in hits, far more in misses.

Kristal

Totally agree, Evol Ving Ness. Ironically I am reading up on minimalism and purging tons of stuff so this is def applicable to tea as well!

This tea is not bad…it has a good ginger taste which can easily be adjusted, just grate some fresh ginger in it if you prefer a stronger ginger taste (I keep 1 inch nuggets of ginger in my freezer and whenever I need ginger I just use a small hand grater and grate away; I do not worry about the skin it does not change the taste). This tea would be great for sick days, you could also add lemon or honey.

pretty good. It tastes just like I expected (and wanted). Ginger galore! I have been craving ginger lately and this hit the spot. It really seems to settle my stomach.

Edited: Upping my rating. I can’t get enough go this tea. It is so good.

This tea is great. I love the hot-throat sensation… You can re-steep this 4+ times with success. It is an every day tea for me. Does anyone else feel that when they try a tea they like, they need to automatically get a tin of it, even if they can’t afford it and have around 10 cups left…. yup. Will power must be activated until I’ve totally run out. THEN A TIN WILL BE OBTAINED IMMEDIATELY.
… I’m not crazy.

Mild, yet spicy. Instant tingling sensation from all that ginger on the tongue and the back of the throat. A very clean ginger flavour, which would pair nicely with honey when sick I’m sure. Overall this tea is a nice and simple blend that I quite enjoyed! Sore throats be warned!

This is step four of my cold regiment. It’s newly added and it seems to help. Plus, I love ginger, I love pepper, and I’ve always added them to my own cold remedy to reap their benefits. It’s possible I’ve only added this as an excuse to drink it, but it’s nice to know that I don’t feel like I have to prepare my own concoction anymore.

I like the look of this tisane. In its dry state, it has a light appearance from the dried ginger with a bold plash of red from the red peppercorns. It’s a complimenting contrast that leaves the black peppercorns barely noticeable; along with the rooibos that I know is hiding in there somewhere. It smells strongly of ginger and pepper, giving it that clean lemony smell that I love so much about ginger.

When steeped, the colours of red and green rooibos dominate and I’m reminded of Christmas time. The ginger darkens and the peppercorns merrily float at the top in a desperate attempt not to be forgotten. It’s kind of cute the way the rooibos goes back into hiding after removing the strainer from my cup, but I’m getting ahead of myself. The peppered aroma takes a back seat as the scent of ginger gains its strength and my mouth begins to water, knowing that pepper will help to suppress my cough and the ginger will do its best to soothe my throat and lighten my spirit. The crisp, lemony smell is doing the trick, and already, I feel more alert.

The liquor is cloudy, throwing around hints of umber and sienna in a golden honey appearance. Atop, lies a faint sunny glow. The flavour is mild, like peppered water with a ginger heat that creeps up after the first swallow. It’s not bad. The lemon flavour is there and I can sense the ginger cleansing my palette. Each sip becomes fresher and cleaner. Each flavour stands out more, and for some odd reason, I think of chicken soup—it must be the pepper.

I really like this tea. My only qualm is that it doesn’t have enough ginger. I’m not even sure if it has enough pepper. I’m sure it was kept at a globally acceptable level, and there is no reason why I can’t add extra pieces of my own fresh ginger and pepper, maybe even a squeeze of lemon for this one. Mmm…

Well what can I say?

This is definitely my favorite tea ever. I love the light green rooibos taste with the strong ginger. I steep it for about 10 minutes (I enjoy it this way). I also think the spices help in balancing out the flavors. It’s amazing and I need to buy 500g worth.

A decent ginger tea, peppercorns give it a little kick. Still, the ginger flavor is not quite as bold as I like it. I’m happy to stick with pure ginger tea rather than this rooibos mixture. If you’re looking for a good one, I highly recommend Alvita teas.

This tea surprised me. When smelling it, it was overpowering and I feared it would taste as such but brewing a cup proved to be quite the opposite. It’s a very pleasant tea that I would drink when not even sick. When sick, I know this will probably be one of the first ones I take off my shelf. It was mild, and with a little honey, sweet and delightful.

Definitely recommend picking up a tin of this or more.
