From DAVIDsTEA

How it tastes
Fresh, cool minty flavour and aroma

It’s love at first sip with this organic peppermint tea. Said to stimulate passion and creativity, our peppermint is also fair trade, for great taste and good karma. It’s a naturally fresh, cool and comforting herbal tisane. And though it may be totally caffeine-free, that doesn’t mean it won’t awaken your senses.

What makes it great
• Peppermint tea is a classic remedy for an upset tummy.
• The active ingredient in peppermint is menthol – said to be great for soothing the throat.

Ingredients
Organic peppermint leaves from Oregon and Washington State.

Day 10 of Around the World Advent Calendar 2023 features this tea.

Notes from box: Take in the oh so cool & refreshing & minty taste of the Pacific Northwest with every sip.

My notes: Lovely peppermint tea. I always oversteep a bit with peppermint, so my tea was caramel-colored by the time I drank it. I’m not sure that I’m feeling any special “amour” from this tea, and again, the leaves were pretty dried and grey (as seems to be the sad trend for the 2023 Around the World Advent Calendar), but it was delicious and minty smooth.

I have two packets of this tea from the holiday (or winter?) collection I ordered right after Christmas. I enjoy a good, plain herbal mint tea. I mean, how can you go wrong with peppermint? In my experience, it doesn’t matter if it is a cheap grocery store bagged peppermint tea or a fancy, organic peppermint tea. This one does stand out though, over my usual Stash peppermint tea. It is very fresh and the cooling sensation of the mint is pronounced.

This was a reward to myself for getting through this latest round of CT scans. Those were yesterday, and today I saw the oncologist to talk about what the scan showed. There are two areas they want to watch: a 4 mm nodule on my left lung and a dime sized spot near my tailbone. The dime sized thing has not grown in 6 months so he doesn’t see any reason for concern with that. The teensy tiny little nodule on the lung may be cancer or it may be totally not related to the cancer. Dr. W says we will watch that one too. So I have my next set of scans in June. We will see if either or both of those problem areas change or grow in the next three months.

Meanwhile, I need to drink up more tea. We are in a blizzard warning for the next 24 hours. So perfect tea drinking weather!

Generally, I agree—if it’s decently fresh, most peppermint does the trick, price point notwithstanding. Traditional Medicinals has one that stands out to me…a little sharper than most, which is helpful for tummy trouble or stopped up nose.

Glad you are home and safe. Praying that the little nothings are nothing!

Maddy Barone

@gmathis I wish we had a “like” button for comments. I’ll check out the Traditional Medicinals peppermint tea. It sounds like a good one.

ashmanra

@Maddy Barone So happy for your good news! Seconding gmathis!

@gmathis: I will check out that peppermint tea. Superanna loves mint and might like to try that one.

Martin Bednář

If I don’t count home-grown peppermint, I can recommnend two leaves and bud peppermint.
Anyway, better to get checked now and then than leaving it without watching at all, IMO. As a person with benign tumor, I have been checked at least twice a year until it has “dissolved” completely.

Maddy Barone

@Martin That is awesome!

Michelle

Surely peppermint is a de-stresser, and therefore anti-cancer tea!

Day 3 of the DavidsTea herbal advent calendar. I love me a good straight peppermint. I mostly keep it around as a migraine tea, since it can get tiresome to always go for ginger teas and I like to have an alternative around with a different flavor profile to mix it up. This particular one is nice and minty, soothing and bracing in equal measure. I’d happily add this to my rotation when my current stash runs out.

A perfectly fine straight peppermint, but nothing special.

A great no caff. tea. Just don’t use while nursing unless you’re trying to wean.

As with my last tasting note on this tea, I’m not sure what more I can say about this tea other than it’s a peppermint tea. I like peppermint. I like this tea. It’s all fine and tasty, and a nice caffeine-free option to mix it up.

Haha, that’s pretty much all I had to say about this too. Only I wasn’t as generous with my rating!

DAVIDsTEA Advent Calendar 2021 – Day 11

Well, this looks familiar! He he, I just had this one a few days ago. But I enjoy peppermint tisanes so I’m not sad to see it again so soon. And I have a bit of honey left from my Bonne Maman advent today, so I added a drizzle into my mug.

Really enjoying this as I watch Love Actually with the pugs. It’s clean and refreshing with a crisp peppermint flavor and only a hint of wet rag. The honey adds a subtle sweetness and nice richness of flavor.

Yummy. Not as tasty as some of the more full-leaf peppermint tisanes I’ve tried, but very serviceable.

After “Tokyo Godfathers,” “Love, Actually” is my favorite holiday/seasonal movie.

Evol Ving Ness

Haha, wet rag. Perfect.

I’m not sure if I have a favorite? But “The Polar Express” is the one that I save for Christmas Eve. :D

I enjoy plain peppermint cold, and this is a pretty good one! No complaints, really. Fresh, clear, and refreshing. It got a bit murky when I left it in the fridge overnight, so I have to remember to drink it all at once next time. I might mix it with some plain chamomile too!

If you enjoy a nice cup of mint tea, have an upset stomach, or even a cold this is the tea for you. I am not normally a mint tea girl but absolutely love this one and it will be staying in my tea cupboard

Peppermint. Shrugs. It’s really nice and refreshing when I’m in the mood for it, like I was tonight, but I’m hardly ever in the mood for it. When I’ve pared my collection down I probably won’t keep a plain peppermint tea stocked in my cupboard – I’m much more likely to grab it in a blend. That being said this is a nice, fresh-tasting, crisp and refreshing peppermint, it’s just not all that exciting to me. But, if peppermint is something that appeals to you, then this is a good one.

Edit: Upping my rating straight away from the 57 I gave it initially, because it was so refreshing I gulped my first mug down and immediately went and made another. Only upping it a little though, because by the time I got half way through the second mug the novelty had worn off and now I’m sipping at the last half slowly, not really caring about it any more. Peppermint is definitely something I have to be in the mood for.

Pure peppermint I prefer from fresh leaves from garden, than any bought stuff. Although Celestial Seasonings one was great too.

Nattie

I’ve never thought to make tea from fresh peppermint leaves, maybe I’ll have to try it! We have a lot of herbs in our garden (: To be honest it’s not something I care enough about to go through the effort of making loose leaf. I’d probably just use teabags for pure peppermint if I was in the mood for it.

gmathis

Mint isn’t generally my first choice for a straight-up tea, but I love my home-grown crop for add-ins and for medicinal purposes!

Nattie

I’m always adding our home-grown herbs to water, but I’ve never thought about doing the same with tea!

ashmanra

What herbs do you like in water, Nattie? I adore rosemary water, “steeped” in the fridge overnight or for days. I tried oregano and thyme each, but didn’t like them as much.

Nattie

Oh I love thyme water! Haha, it’s probably my favourite. I like rosemary too, but I don’t think I’ve ever tried oregano water. I don’t grow any. Surprisingly I quite like coriander in my water, which is odd because I can’t stand the taste of it in food!

Shae

Has anyone tried fresh lemon balm? Also, rosemary and sage leaves together are really nice.

Martin Bednář

Fresh one probably nope. Only I tried to chew leaves. That works quite well :D

Nattie

Oh lemon balm sounds like it would be lovely in the summer! I’ve had parsley and sage together which was really nice but not rosemary and sage yet. Maybe that’ll be my next batch (:

ashmanra

These all sound so good! Can’t wait to try them, along with burnet as soon as mine gets big enough!

gmathis

I can’t walk out our back door without tripping over a potted plant right now, but I may have to add lemon balm to next year’s lineup.

Nattie

Yep, this has inspired me to grow some more herbs to experiment with too. I hope to see updates on here from some of you!

gmathis

Check mark: rosemary water in my fridge this weekend. It was lovely.

Nattie

Yay, I’m so glad you tried it! :D I saw your tasting note where you mentioned it and was very excited, haha.
