From DAVIDsTEA

Rich rooibos and sweet honeybush mingle with the warm, comforting aromas of ginger, cinnamon and molasses. Just like mom used to make…

Day 22 or the 24 Days of Tea

I am on major catch up. The holidays have just blown by. I made this and had this a few days ago and even still I forgot about it!!! I had this on Christmas day while my sweetheart and I opened the gifts we weren’t suppose to get each other.

I will have to take the time to rate it again when I remember what I liked about it etc… until then, this is just another tasting note tracking what I’ve had.

I can taste the ginger and it does sort of taste like gingerbread…just wish it was more robust.

I was so excited to try this tea but didn’t have a chance to until now. So this morning I finally had a cup and was thrilled when I smelled the infusion! It had sone really nice smells. But then when I tasted it…. EWW. The only thing I could taste was the honeybush (I believe) with its earthy flavour. I was then so disappointed because I was sure I was going to enjoy this one… I still have enough to make a second brew so next time I will try it with milk and sugar, but I’m not overexcited about it.

Caroline

UPDATE: I tried it with some frothed milk and honey and it’s actually delicious! I would not drink a cup a day, but occasionally. I might buy some of this tea after all!

Currently I am in shock, steeping this tea, and indulging in some nostalgia. I picked up Choconut Oolong, Alpine Punch, Coffee Cake and this tea, along with a regular oolong to try. Seeing the reviews I may have to pick up some of the fig and mint ones to try next time..

Anyway. On to the shock. The shock being this tea. I can chalk it up to my tea-stebuds evolving, or the fact that Gingerbread and rooibos apparently go really well together. As in, this tea when it was steeping, smelled exactly like baking gingerbread. It TASTES like gingerbread.

Going to get the rating speak for itself. Owlie is impressed.

This. Is. Incredible. I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t really care for most rooibos blends, but I’m slowly but surely getting to a place where I can be happy and accepting of the rooibos. Those who know me know that I love ginger more than anything, so I waited with a ton of anticipation for Gingerbread to come to stores. I wanted something that would be less medicinal than my other DT favourite, Super Ginger (also a rooibos, go figure).

This tea did not disappoint. It is very cakey and that molasses flavour comes through but the base of the tea is still sweet, delicious ginger. I’m going to try my best to keep this one around forevers (like Cookie Dough. I like it that much).

Out of all of DAVIDsTEA’s holiday teas this year Gingerbread is by far my favorite. I know that most people prefer Alpine Punch, but it is Gingerbread that does it for me. This tea is absolutely perfect for those days that you just want to curl up with a book on a cold winter night. It is nice and flavorful, without being overpoweringly strong. If you love Gingerbread cookies then chances are that you’ll probably love this.

Unlike Celestial Seasoning’s Gingerbread tea, this one has more of a baked good/ gingerbread cookie taste, while the Celestial Seasoning’s one is a lot heavier in ginger.

I can’t tell if I oversteeped this one or not.

Dry, this smells like liquid caramel that you put on ice cream. Steeped, this smells like a very bitter gingerbread cookie. The smells gets into your nose and lingers — I was still smelling this hours after I drank it. The smell was so overpoweringly bad for me that I don’t even remember what the tea tasted like, just that it was smooth and decent and didn’t taste like the smell.

Not going to be trying this one again.

I thought I knew (or had a pretty good idea) of what this tea would taste like, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Rather than having strong spices like actual gingerbread, it has a stronger rooibos flavor. I was expecting it to have a much fuller tea body than it does. The taste is more like freshly baked sugar cookies, than like gingerbread. Ginger is what make gingerbread what it is, and this tea does not bring that intense and distinct ginger to the tea. There apparently is ginger in the tea, but I really don’t taste it at all.

Despite all that, it is very delicious and perfect for the holiday season. Drink up :)

Very strong and I also agree with the taste being gingersnap cookies not gingerbread. Very tasty.
