What’s the fig idea?

Let’s face it. Figgy Pudding is a holiday must-have. In fact, the tradition goes way back to medieval England, and in 1714, pudding enthusiast King George insisted on a plum pudding at his royal holiday feast. Our version combines cranberries, almonds, dates, cloves and big, luscious pieces of fig for a holiday treat that’s pure satisfaction at next to no calories. Try it hot with a splash of brandy and a cinnamon stick.

Ingredients: Apples, cranberries, black mission figs, calimyrna figs, dates, almonds, rose hips, cloves, natural vanilla flavouring

Dry Leaf Nose: An intoxicating aroma of figs and spiced fruits.

Liquor: Brownish-red liquor with fig and spiced fruit notes.

Flavour: A rich and enticing aroma/flavour. Spiced fruits mingle with a sweet fleeting flavour of sliced figs, dried and fresh. The combination is very much like a delicious holiday cake.

Had this as a tea to go today, as I probably won’t buy any of this unless it goes on sale…it’s too heavy and too pricey…but it is a nice cup to go on a cold day.

I’m having a cup of this right now haha

A lovely winter tea, Spiced Fig is quiet tasty with noticeable fig, dates, and cloves. I bought a 25 gram bag but since this tea is heavy, it only made a few cups.

How did you brew this? when I made it all I got was sweet water

VariaTEA

Awesome, thanks for letting me know. I have enough left for one more cup (about 2.5 tsp) so I will give it one more try and hopefully I will enjoy it as much as you enjoyed yours.

You might have to use more, which makes this heavy, chunky tea kind of expensive. David’s Tea recommends 2 tsp per cup. I used two heaping Perfect spoonfuls for a 12 oz cup. The second cup I made steeped too long and I thought it was sweeter than the first cup. Also, I think you have to get a good proportion of pieces in each serving. This can be tricky because it is so chunky. My friend bought this too and didn’t like it but hers didn’t look like mine. Maybe she got the bottom of the barrel. I plan to get more. I hope it is as good as this last batch.

I hope that works for you.

12g of stuff in 8oz water. It’s sweet clove water. That’s it.

So disappointed.

I got this one as a sample when I ordered online. I wasn’t particularly attracted to the name, but then I opened the small bag and the smell melted my heart. It smells so nice and the fruit looks so cute I want to eat them!

Obsviously I took a small bite of one of the fruit… and then I quickly poured some water over it to avoid eating it all ! The smell of the liquid is way less appealing, but we’ll see…

First sip… of course I burnt my tongue ! But I really like it. The taste is much more similar to the smell of the dry fruit than the smell of the liquid. I must say I don’t think I’ve ever had any figgy pudding so I can’t really compare, but this does remind me of fruit cake. I get cranberry, dates, cloves. It’s sweet, it’s nice, I’m happy I’ve tried it and might even buy some more if I get the chance before the winter’s collection’s gone.

And now I’m off eating the fruit ! :)

I think this one is alright? The problem is that there isn’t enough to brew a taste.

I’d gotten one of their sample packets, and so after reading Steepster, I cut the quantity of water I normally use. Nope, tastes of nothing. Smells alright though.

If we can’t have “Merry Cranberry” this is the next best thing. It’s sweet, rich and very soothing. The cloves give it this sort of nostalgic warmth while the vanilla elevates it to that satisfied dessert quality we look for in a holiday tea. In dry form, I admit to finding it worth a try, if not as a topping but as a novel addition to trail mix. Not that I do it often but it is very possible. Haha, in any case if you’re looking for that holiday pudding kick be sure to try this one.

Out of all the Holiday teas this year, I figured I’d hate this one the most (that trophy still goes to Alpine Punch, two years in a row). It was the most surprising. I’m not a huge fan of figs or dates… but this tea is extremely festive. This tastes like the holidays to me. A huge downside – it’s very heavy… Spiced Fig is to Winter 2013 as Mango Fruit Punch is to Summer 2013.

All right — I admit I probably didn’t do the best job at brewing this tea. I totally forget to set a timer after I poured my boiling water, so I had to heavily eyeball when it was finish. Thankfully, my recent luck streak hasn’t failed me; I didn’t get a bitter drink out of this. (It would’ve been so awful if I had. This was another sample given to me by Abby. I wouldn’t have had another chance at brewing this tea.)

Anyway. Spiced Fig is a decent drink. It’s nothing too earth shattering. It was milder than expected. Like, I would’ve loved tasting a bit more clove and fig, truth be told. I don’t think I would ever purchase this one its own, though I wouldn’t be upset if it showed up in a gift set.
