I’ve tried this one a couple times and I have to say that it’s best with a little bit of cream added. It bring out the chocolate flavor and dials down the bitterness. Without cream, it’s a little bitter, especially with the black tea as the base.

This one is a left over from the tea calendar that I didn’t get around to trying. On first taste, it’s… odd. Something bitter with a bit of sweetness and a kind of citrusy aftertaste. Hmm. I’ll admit I definitely oversteeped this one. I thought it was herbal until I opened up the Steepster page, so I didn’t really pay attention to how long the leaves were in the water.

Still, I’m not sure if this one could be saved for me even under the best conditions. It reminds me of those odd, artificial “diet” chocolates that my mom sometimes ate when I was a kid. It’s reminiscent of chocolate, but something is not quite right.

Well I was out of the country during the last week of the tea advent calendar, but now I’m back. Day 19/24: Dark Chocolate Delight. Not sure what to make of this one. At first it mostly just tastes like something burnt, but I can taste spices lingering behind. Interesting, but not my cup of tea.

Day 19/24 of 24 Days of Tea!

Darn, another tea I cannot really drink :( Once again, I made a big cup for my husband and took a few sips out of a tea cup. I must say, this is another nice dessert tea- it captures “dark chocolate” really well. I bet it would make a great latte as well!

My initial thoughts on the chocolate flavour of this tea is that it tastes a bit like a chocolate liqueur. It is a bit mild on the sip with a slight dark chocolately bloom on the aftertaste The chocolate has a bit of the soapy taste that I get a lot with DAVIDsTEA chocolate teas. I can’t seem to properly taste the black tea in this blend which is also common with the flavoured DAVIDsTEA teas that I have tried. I just looked at the ingredients and there is supposed to be peppercorn in here which I absolutely cannot taste (unlike in Chocolate Chili Chai, also by DAVIDsTEA).

Any chocolate tea, I will try. If you read any of my reviews, you’ll see I often put this into practice… in the hopes of one day finding that “perfect” chocolate tea. I’ve come close.

This tea, sadly, isn’t it. I grabbed it immediately upon seeing the ingredients – chocolate and.. gasp.. blueberries? Really? Okay, I’m in. The staffer helping me at DAVIDs didn’t believe me when I pointed it out in both the marketing materials and on the label, and then one of her colleagues was all, “Yea, there’s blueberries in it, but it’s not my favorite. Try Hot Chocolate”. (I did, and that’s.. ohgoshdon’tgetmestartedgood).

This… this is a weird tea. I over steeped it accidentally on purpose. The first time I had it, the blueberries were lost in the brew and the whole tea fell flat. So this time I really wanted it to pop and shine, or, at least get a better idea of what this tea is all about. Plus, I had another good-sized cup of tea left.

Over steeped, it’s… ew. Artificial blueberry with a hint of chocolate weirdness. It’s.. um.. barely palatable. So yea, don’t over steep this teafrienz. Maybe just pass on it altogether?

I haven’t found many chocolate blends that impress me. I actually make my own now. I’ve found that throwing in a little bit (like a quarter teaspoon) of mugicha/roasted barley often makes chocolate flavors taste much richer.

As someone who loves chocolate but generally is a little disappointed with Chocolate-based teas, I wasn’t sure what to expect with this, but took a chance because of the blueberries in the description. Although it isn’t an everyday favourite for me, I definitely think that if you want a rich, flavourful tea, that isn’t sweet (although with some sugar I bet it would be great too!) – this is a great option. It isn’t bitter but it is definitely a dark chocolate that comes through. Nice for when you need to indulge in something that tastes rich and decadent :D

Definitely chocolaty! I can definitely taste the spices in this as well. Not my favorite cup, but its decent. Good as a desert tea for a little treat!

This one is odd. With creamer, it’s cloyingly undrinkably sweet. Without, it’s thick and lives up to the chocolate in its name … but it’s not appealing. I don’t quite know how to describe it – it’s like Tootsie Rolls but not sweet. Despite the taste being accurate to the name, I’m disappointed.

I made this as a latte earlier today hoping to finish off the leaf I have (one cup left!). It was better … but I realized why DavidsTea’s instructions for lattes use SO MUCH leaf. Even steeping at double strength for a 16oz mug, I couldn’t taste anything but the milk.

Anyone else get this to work for them?

On the 5th day of sipdowns…

Yesterday I just had the last of my black cherry from Celestial and it wasn’t anything to rave about so I didn’t bother posting. Today’s was the end of my Dark Chocolate Delight..

I put in a teaspoon of cream when I made it this time and the cream totally overpowered the chocolatey notes of the tea which is lame but I still think this tea is missing something. There are some chocolatey, nutty flavors to it, but it tastes like a milk-less hot chocolate. Meh. Maybe when I’ve drunk down most of my collection I’ll get some more.
