Fruité Maté

Fruit Yerba maté Blend by DAVIDsTEA

“If my maté runs out, I’ve had it,“ wrote the great Argentine writer Julio Cortazar. He understood maté magic. This traditional South American infusion – Argentina’s national drink – is known for providing energy, inspiring dreams and bringing body and soul into balance. This blend combines maté’s natural sweetness with papaya, pineapple and flower petals.

Day #2 of 24………

This sample comes to me by way of Jillian. (Thank you!) I do get kind of a mangoey peach taste along with the herbal taste of the green mate. Actually, this mate is pretty well done and just tastes like a light fruit tea. Thoroughly enjoyable!

24 oz teapot steeped the usual way…..

I find plain mate to be a bit boring on its own, so lately I’ve been trying various flavoured blends to see if I can find one that piques my interest. This particular blend has an interesting scent, I was expecting something generically tropical-smelling but it’s more of a mix of herbal and fresh fruit. The flavour goes the same way, herbal with a hint of spiciness and the flavours of pineapple and papaya teasing at the tongue. It’s not overly sweet and tastes very natural.

Sweet, almost too heavy on the papaya, and grassy. Potent kick through the bombilla. Gives at least four good infusions. For all the sweetness, I find I still need to add stevia to it or the blend upsets my stomach. Not an everyday cup for me, but it certainly delivers what it promises.

This tea really grew on me and I’m disappointed that they’ve discontinued it in stores. My tin just ran out too :( I drank this almost constantly for two weeks straight at the end of the semester and boy did it make a difference. Hot or cold, with a tiny bit of honey, and no milk is the way to go with this one. I liked a steep time of at least three minutes, and let it sit for as long as an hour in some cases when I forgot about it. A very tasty tea.

Great light fruit taste that helps to cut mate’s sometimes bitter flavor.

This one was not what I was expecting. I was expecting a more sweet, fruity flavor. It has a very earthy taste to it. Dont get me wrong, I do like it….I just need to put a bit more honey in than I usually would.

Okay so, this tea is growing on me. I am enjoying a cup of it as I speak. I decided to try and steep it for less time and it turned out way better. Do not over-steep this tea!

I love this tea. It is sweet – but not too sweet for me. I still add some Splenda to really bring out the fruity flavors of this tea. I love those chunks of pineapple! This is one that I always keep on hand – well, I try to!

Pretty good tea, it had an odd tomato smell but tasted mildly fruity. I’m intrigued by mate teas and all the apparent health benefits (it even claims to restore your natural hair colour, now we’re getting into dangerous territory!), as far as mate teas go this is one of the better ones I’ve tasted!

tastes like sweet grass with a nice fruit scent. Could do this one hot or cold but I think I prefer hot.
