Mint Chocolate Rooibos

Rooibos Tea by DAVIDsTEA

Cool sophistication
You won’t want anything else for dessert when you taste this tea. Even the aroma is totally satisfying. Minty fresh, with hints of dark chocolate and rich vanilla. Pour it and admire the coppery red of the rooibos, filled to the brim with antioxidants. Then take a sip and sink into its velvety sweetness. You can’t help but fall in love.

my boyfriend just popped his head in my door saying “it smells like chocolate in here”
the power of the tea!!

the mint is a little fresh pinch at the end of a sip. the balance of chocolate and vanilla is a tad off from perfect. cuz i think i might like more chocolate. MOAR!! but it’s just not that kind of tea is it.
no no, this is a classy and patient tea.

this tea is extremely gentlemanly. pleased to meet you Mr. Wentworth.

I like chocolate………I like mint……..I like vanilla…..

Really, what is there not to like in this blend. Great for dessert! Nice and smooth, and all 3 flavours make an appearance.

mmmm…bedtime!

I’m pretty happy with this! Though a lot of people say that you can steep rooibos indefinitely with no ill effects, I think that over steeping can definitely create a sour wood flavor. I think this was perfect at 5 and a half minutes. It’s earthy and just minty enough with some smooth desserty wanna be chocolate flavor. It’s the same fake chocolate taste in Super Chocolate that I didn’t like, but it works better in this tea. Perhaps the mint compensates for the lack at the same time that the rooibos keeps the mint in check. This tea is pretty well balanced.
I think that over time, I’ll probably get tired of this tea. I mean, I always get tired of flavored teas and run back to unflavored at some point. But for now, this is definitely tasty and soothing for the tummy.

This probably would have been awesome blended with the choco*late tea! Too bad I just finished that. Argh!

I can taste the rooibos in this tea…I don’t love rooibos. I think the woodiness of the rooibos in this tea is a tad strong. This tea reminds me of the smell of landscaping cedar chips on a rainy day, with a touch of mint. Although I like the smell of cedar chips, it’s not something I want in a tea. Honestly, I didn’t like the first sip of this tea, but by the fourth or fifth sip I liked it enough to say it’s decent. I can taste the chocolate if I think of it, but it’s far from obvious. I don’t regret trying this tea, but I don’t see myself repurchasing it once my little sample is done.

I’m picky when it comes to rooibos, and although I enjoy mint chocolate sometimes, it’s not an absolute love, so this one was fighting a bias from the get-go.

I’m enjoying this tea a tad more than I did the first time. I’m getting the chocolate mintiness, but I’m still also getting the woodiness of the rooibos that reminds me of cedar chips-ick. Thankfully the woodiness decreases significantly as the rooibos cools, and that’s when the mint chocolate flavor really pops.

I’m glad I gave this one a try, but with all the other tea options out there, I don’t think I’ll be buying more unless I plan to serve it to a mint-chocolate loving friend. For my taste, it’s not bad, but I have a bunch of other caffeine-free teas on the way that I would select over this one.

mmmmm… Perfect cup for a day like today. I was so busy running around, I knew I couldn’t have more caffeine. I just had my first meal. And it’s coooooooold out right now! BUT, I get my culprit tooth pulled next week. Yay!
AND my dog actually let me drink this cup. She’s not a fan of peppermint.

Wow, this tea is… thick? That’s what I was thinking anyway.

I steeped it up and it was quite dark. I was surprised by it honestly. I didn’t expect it to look so dark and basically thick. So, I added a bunch of skim milk… yep a bunch. It needed more than I usually use. Normally I just add a little bit to change the colour mostly. But today, I needed more.

I got the chocolate/mint part no problem. I didn’t notice the vanilla too much tho, unless that just was to add the smoothness to the tea…?

Anyway, it’s a good tea. I think I would maybe get this one again? Actually… I dunno. I really like the Read My Lips. I would probably stick with that one as I like the black tea base a bit more. This is a great option for those looking to stay away from the caffeine but still have a chocolate/mint tea.

I had this as a sample in store this morning. It was better than I expected. The chocolate and mint were well-balanced and the rooibos base was smooth. There was no artificial aftertaste like in a lot of chocolate teas I’ve tried. Like all chocolate teas though, it just left me craving a cup of hot chocolate. :-)

Amazing bedtime tea. I’m quickly changing to unflavored blacks and flavored rooibos as tastes change so this is an amazing replacement for mint chocolate black tea which I love. Sample from alysha
Oh, did I mention how amazing it smells? Wow.

And now for something completely different! My palate is tired of teas with complex flavouring, so I went one that’s theoretically simple…(!)

Steeped, the tea smells like minty chocolate. There is a bit of the peppermint scent that I dislike, but it is in part overwhelmed by chocolate, so I can deal with it.

Taste-wise, it is exactly as it’s supposed to be – a chocolate mint tea. Not particularly sweet, but lots of flavour. I’m finding that the flavour I dislike in peppermint tea is mostly obscured by chocolate, so it’s quite enjoyable to drink.

Not my favourite, and not something I’ll be restocking as minty chocolate isn’t something I regularly crave, but worth the $1.50 or so for the sample size I picked up just to taste it, for curiousity if nothing else! Thank you, Mint Chocolate Rooibos, for giving my tired palate a break this evening :)

Yep… mint when tempered with vanilla and chocolate is actually rather enjoyable to me! Although… I’d definitely rather have a honeybush base here, as I can taste a bit more of the rooibos than I’d like.

I guess it’s winter that makes me do it, but it seems like every cup I make nowadays is some sort of mint chocolate. I’ve had ‘Read my Lips’ A LOT lately. It’s late tonight so I didn’t want the caffeine so I went with the Mint Chocolate Rooibos. It’s definitely not as good as ‘Read my Lips’ but it hits the spot. It makes me happy but when I am done, I won’t remember it.

I have a tummy ache and this is the only thing I have in the house remotely like a sleepytime or a tummy tamer. It seems to be doing the trick, but I’ll have to pick up some sleepytime tomorrow at the grocery to have some in the house.

This is one of those teas that smells so good you just want to cradle it under your nose and hang out with it in between sips. The smell is more chocolatey than the taste, which is predominantly minty with just a hint of chocolate. The rooibos is a good base but is very much in the background, which I liked. Overall it’s a solid after-dinner dessert tea, and since it has peppermint it’s a good one to turn to after one of those meals where you wish you’d worn your stretchy pants.

This was one of the samples that came with my Christmas gift.

I have not had a lot of luck with chocolate in teas. It just…overall the taste usually is really weird.
This tea however….Not sure if I could like this enough to get 50 grams of it….I have a feeling that it would end up getting stale in my cupboard. However I would love it if DT came out with a smaller option…like 30 grams. That way…if it gets stale I won’t feel like I’ve wasted a lot of tea, not to mention….the prices at DT while they are not hugely $$, they are a bit pricey, considering there are A LOT of teas I want to try…the prices make it a bit difficult.

This one I got as a sample with one of my many (too many – especially considering I have a local store ah) recent online orders from DavidsTea. It smells wonderful – all minty and chocolately. Yum!

Yep everything they say is true. This one’s pretty delicious. I can taste the mint, of course, and the chocolate and even a hint of vanilla. I may steep it a bit longer next time around but overall a nice smooth finish for this one.

This one tastes very minty and I don’t really get the chocolate flavour.

I just realized that I had a couple of samples left over from my Davids order that I still had to try. I figured I might as well try the rooibos blend today while I am taking a break from caffeine.

I don’t know why but for some reason it is just not working for me at all. With each sip, I get more and more overwhelmed by the mint. I can barely taste the rooibos, the vanilla or the chocolate. I would have loved more of the woodsy flavor mixed with the mint and the chocolate but the mint overwhelmed my palate. I have Read My Lips in my cupboard and it has the same flavor profile but with better balance of flavor.

Rooibos also tends to be a problematic area for me as well. It’s a love/hate thing where it doesn’t work for me more often than it does. The only rooibos blend I’ve tried and loved is Oh Canada.

Mint and Chocolate are two of my favorite ingredients for a tea, as anyone can tell from looking at my Read My Lips tin, it is almost always empty its a very vicious cycle of purchasing it and consuming it…Enter Mint Chocolate Rooibos!

My sister loves this tea, funny she tried it after I introduced her to Read My Lips. I was complaining that I didn’t have any (read my lips) so immediately she said I had to try this tea, as I was heading out of her house she handed me a DT sample pack that had come with one of her online orders. I went home and brewed it up and immediately fell in love.

I find the flavor profile quite similar to read my lips; however the touch of vanilla in mint chocolate takes it to another level. It’s not like drinking the same tea as read my lips so it is a change up, but a slight one at that. I guess it would be great for those concerned about caffeine as well; however that is not one of my larger concerns.

Definitely a keeper for those who like mint and chocolate!

1.5 tsp for 250mL water @98C, steeped seven minutes, drunk bare.

I find rooibos needs a long steep.

This tastes like mint plus milk chocolate plus rooibos, with a bit of vanilla. And it’s a decent rooibos base, not woody or, oddly, minty on its own. Decent, but not great; if the rooibos were separated from the other flavours, you wouldn’t taste much.

Fun to drink.

While this was not as rich as I was hoping for, it is very yummy. Mild flavours of both mint and dark chocolate that blend superbly with an earthy roobios.

I have improved my rating of this one because I found that the chocolate came through a lot better this time and mixed perfectly with the mint to taste like a mint chocolate bar (of which I am undeniably a fan). I made it with boiling water and 1 and half teaspoons and it was excellent, very full bodied and flavourful.
I will be making a trip to DAVIDs tomorrow to grab some of this before it is removed from the stores and only available online!

I love this tea. If you’ve had read my lips by Davids, this is similar but only in a way Rooibos can be… as it’s has no caffeine. I usually suggest this one to people to try if they’re looking for a minty chocolate tea that won’t keep them up all night. Especially good in the cold months. mmmmmmm chocolate.

This is one of my favourite Rooibos teas. It’s minty, it’s chocolately, what is not to love?! It has a light earthy taste to it, and the longer you steep it (accidentally for me) the more clay like it tastes but it’s not overwhelming due to the mint in it. Wonderful tea to sip on when it’s freezing outside. Always warms me up!
