Received a sample of this in my order! I’m a chocolate fiend, so I’m pretty much guaranteed to like anything chocolate flavoured so long as it actually tastes like chocolate rather than overly sweet wax like some chocolate flavourings do.
The leaf contains those same mini chocolate chips from DT’s Read my Lips (good sign!). Smells chocolatey, also a good sign! As it steeps it starts to smell like their S’mores tea without the marshmallowy goodness. Still, a pretty good sign!
It turns out, it also tastes like S’mores without the marhsmallowy goodness. Now, this is a very delicious chocolate tea. Smells good, tastes good. But I’m spoiled by S’mores, and sweet tooth that I am, if it tastes the same as S’mores but is missing the marshmallows, it’s just not quite as good as that one to me.
Tl;dr version: Good tea, realistic chocolatey taste, not quite as good as S’mores so I’ll stick with that one instead.

Let me start by saying that I am NOT a chocaholic. Chocolate is not usually my go to flavor. Having said that, this is probably the best chocolate tea I’ve had. It’s in your face chocolate, there is nothing subtle or weak about this (and I was worried that I had underleafed it a bit).
I don’t know what else to say, it’s not chemical, it’s not fake, it’s a fine chocolate tea. Thumbs up.

So considering it’s almost 90F here today it’s hardly “rich chocolate tea” time but I just received this along with Griottes and Professor Grey among others aaaand I should be due for my period shortly, so I’ll go with it and maybe do a chocolate-a-thon taste comparison today.

Brewing the aroma reminds me of Harney and Sons Florence (and to a lesser extent American Tea Room’s Choco-late—that one’s more sugary powder mix though), that sense of a big black brick/bar of dark rich chocolate, something like Callebaut or Cafe Tasse. It brews up a surprisingly bright reddish color. It is even sweeter with less chance of bitterness than Florence, sort of a bridging of it with Choco-late in terms of delivering the intense chocolatiness of Florence with the sweetness of Choco-late, and adding a creamy dimension (ever since trying their Earl Grey Cream I’ve noticed Della Terra’s cream flavor is quite good and distinctly richer, butterier than most other companies’). I have a mail tea swapping friend who I’m sure will love this, can’t wait to send her some.

Mmmmm. I should keep some of this on hand – you never know when you NEED chocolate teas.

My daughter put me on to this tea company and its definitely one of my favorite companies to order tea from! They have great specials with free tea & free shipping and SO many great teas to choose from! The chocolate tea is the best chocolate tea I have tried…. And I have tried many!!!
The whole kitchen smells yummy when this is steeping!!!! I highly recommend this tea :)

So I’ve tried this twice now, and I don’t know… not a big fan. I definitely got some good whiffs of dark chocolate from the aroma, but it has a funny taste to it. The chocolate is definitely there, but not the taste of chocolate I wanted. A little artificial tasting, really. Bummer.

I’m on the fence about chocolate teas, so what do I go and do last week? I ordered some chocolate tea samples… it seemed like a good idea at the time. Personally, I blame my sweet tooth.

I won’t lie, I am an absolute chocolate snob. I have no problem paying $5+ for a quality chocolate bar and savoring it slowly over the week. I didn’t dislike this as much as most of the chocolate teas that I’ve had, but I found the chocolate creme a little offputting, I’m not sure why they included it. I did like that they didn’t add sprinkles to it and choose to use mini chocolate chips, I’ve never understood sprinkles in tea.

I tried this hot and didn’t bother with a resteep. I don’t see the point in resteeping chocolate teas since the chocolate chips all melt into the first cup and leave the second bland.

Third tea of the day. Got this one in a generous grab bag Amanda sent to me.
I think I finally found a chocolate tea that I can actually call a chocolate tea. I used about 1 1/4 tsp for one cup. Might try 1 1/2 tsp just ‘cause since this tasted just a bit watery. But overall it was pretty good. The smell out of the bag was very chocolaty, not exactly like milk, but not quite dark chocolate. It brewed similarly. Even the wet leaves smelled chocolaty.
Like I said, it tasted just a bit watery, but I think that’s probly ‘cause I didn’t use enough leaves. It was good without anything added, but I added a bit of brown sugar and it really made the chocolaty taste pop better. But then, I like sweet teas and think sugar improves almost any tea. Just for the heck of it I added a bit of milk to it but I don’t think it really improved anything so when I make this again I won’t bother.
Very glad to have gotten to try this one. I’ll most likely pick this some of this up when I run out and I’m placing a Della Terra order.

Almost too chocolatey. It tastes a lot like Nature’s Leaf Chocolate Midnight, only not as dark. Not a bad cup of chocolate tea. I might try mixing it with some chai.

The way this tea smells reminds me of hot chocolate. Like really good hot chocolate. I appreciate that the strong chocolate flavor of this tea really comes through as a DARK chocolate flavor… Because dark chocolate is superior to milk chocolate. Unsweetened, this tea tastes great, but add a pinch of sugar and it’s phenomenal.

I did not expect to like this, not sure why. Turns out it rocks and it’s a fabulous chocolaty tea that satisfies my sweet tooth and saves me 90 cents at the vending machine. Sipping this baby all day!
