I get graham crackers, then marshmallows, then chocolate, and, finally, black tea. This is S’mores in a cup and it’s simply awesome. Still have yet to try as a latte.

so this one’s not too bad. I’m pretty sure it’s the chocolate factor with Della Terra that throws me off. Still, not too shabby a tea if you’re looking for a good time ha! sorry..for something a little fun and different. Totally not an every day tea though. :)

SIPDOWN! Finished up the last of my sample on this one. I’m still not overly convinced as to the amazingness of this tea but it was a little better this time around. That might also be due to the extra leaf i tossed in. Still, a decent enough tea that i wouldn’t turn down but also don’t feel the need to keep around permanently. I vastly prefer the wonder grandma’s pumpkin pie that Della terra does :)

grrrrrrrr don’t you just hate it when tasting notes crash and you have to re-type everything? sigh Soooo long story short. I tried this with 2tsps instead of 1 for an 8oz cup and I still find that although the marshmallow is there, with the chocolate and graham in the background, it’s seems to be more watery than i’d like. I’ll need to add a bit of milk to this, to see if that helps. A decent tea, but nothing i need to keep in my cupboard full time.

This was one of two teas I chose for my free ounces. I really wanted to try a S’mores tea. I LOVE S’mores. This one and Della Terra’s spicy chocolate tea were the reasons I had to order from Della Terra. All of the elements to S’mores are here! Chocolate, tiny marshmallows and even graham cracker! The fragrance of the leaves is divine. After steeping, the color is a medium brown. Sadly, the flavor isn’t very strong. The black tea base is good, but it might be overpowering the flavor, even though the black base isn’t very strong either. My infuser was loaded with mini marshmallows too. The black tea doesn’t get bitter at all though! I would really like to see a campfire like smokey black tea! Keemun or russian caravan… I really wish this had more flavor, but as it is, it’s very good anyway!

Additional notes: This one was haunting me, so I had to have another cup today. It’s rare I drink the same tea twice in two months! I decided to follow the 2-3 minute steep instructions this time. I don’t think I did last time. I think the flavor ended up the same. There are slight marshmallow, chocolate and graham cracker flavors here, but they are LIGHT. I’ve tried a bunch of Della Terra teas since I first tried this one… and I could be wrong, but it seems like this black tea blend has a stronger black tea than their others. It still isn’t a very strong black tea, but I think it’s just noticeable enough. I think Della Terra would have the perfect S’mores blend, if only the flavor was stronger!

Oh my … This tea was all that I had hoped for. It really is reminiscent of a campfire s’more. The marahallow and graham cracker with a hint of chocolate, this was truly the perfect blend. Could drink this everyday, already ordered more!

Drinking this for the second time, thanks to Jackie T for the swap!

I was more impressed this time around than with my first cup of this tea. I can’t help but compare it to Love In A Cup as they are similar, but I think I prefer LiaC due to the addition of caramel.

My big problem with flavoured teas like this is unless I am drinking them with a clean palate I find they can underwhelm me. This morning I am really tasting the marshmallows though! Especially as it cools down. Not getting a ton of chocolate but it is definitely present in the background, mingling with the graham crackers.

As with many dessert teas, I suspect the flavours will be brought out more with the addition of some sugar, which I will try next time.

Pretty tasty tea! Slightly less sweet than Love in a Cup but not too dissimilar.

I’m glad I ordered some!

So this is my first order from Della Terra teas, and this is tea I picked to try first since it was the reason I even placed an order. I have to say a huge thank you to them for sensing my need for instant gratification, too – I ordered this Sunday night and got it today (Wednesday). It’s like they knew me and my impatience, haha.

Steep notes: 2 tsp. leaf, 8 oz. water, a splash of milk, below parameters.

I got this mainly after being disappointed by the Toasted Marshmallow Tea David’s has out right now. The name of that really put me in the mood for s’mores, and I ordered this hoping for a semblance of toasted marshmallow flavor. Okay, here goes!

…..Um.

Well, the above silence was me drinking 3/4 of my cup. You know how someone who has been without water will try to gulp it down once they have access again? I pretty much just did that with this tea.

This tastes and smells exactly like s’mores, but also manages to preserve a good balance with the black tea. How are there graham crackers in here? How are there marshmallows?

This is amazing. Like, let me just get a huge tin ready because this is going to be a permanent tea in my collection. It’s a good thing we’re planning on moving to a bigger place in a few months, because the rate I’m going my tea will need its own pantry!

EDIT: I went for a second steeping of this (ended up being 10-15 minutes steep time) and though it’s thinner, with the added milk it tastes almost like hot chocolate – the chocolate and marshmallow are more prominent than the graham cracker now but it is still really good. And no bitterness or astringence is evident from the base either – this tea is magic.

It’s like coming home, being back here.

I can’t believe it’s been 12 days! Most of that is because of stupid moving house, which is taking forever and still not completely done. My proudest moment is moving a couch, just my boyfriend and I, from one third story apartment to another. Still not sure how we managed that, actually. But it happened, and no one got hurt. :)

We’ve done some unpacking, but I just never managed to get around to unpacking my Breville until today. I waited until we got our little IKEA shelf (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80135298/#/60135299) over at the new apartment because I was promised carte blanche with a Tea Nook, and that sucker has long been what I wanted to use as the centerpiece.

Anyway, this tea was the first one I thought of to brew up at my new beverage station! It still needs a few refinements but for the most part all of my tea and supplies fit nicely, with Brevy hanging out on top. I wanted something desserty and rich, so this was perfect.

Mmm… with milk and sugar it is just the shot of energy I needed right before I leave to start my 3rd 12 hour shift in a row. Can’t wait for a day off to finish putting my tea obsession together!

Pretty sure this tea saved my sanity today. I was kind of out of it after work so made this latte style on the stove with a bit of sugar.

Last summer I went on vacation with my family and boyfriend up to Asheville and we stayed in this mountain cabin where you couldn’t get cell phone service. There was a fire pit out back and we sat around it on our last night there, making s’mores. You really can’t eat more than one of those but it was so fun making them. Even if I did have to wash my jacket because it absorbed that gross smoky smell.

After a what seemed like a night full of people not understanding/listening to me, the idea of being back there – with only the sounds of the fire, and the forest and people who DO listen/understand me – was just what I needed. I love this – even moreso because of the nostalgia factor now.

This is definitely always a tea I’ll have on hand.

Made this with milk and sugar yesterday morning to celebrate having a week off from work. Yay for random vacations!

I’ve been making an Excel spreadsheet for my tea collection to keep things in some semblance of order (since no matter how organized my actual stash is, the mishmash of tins always makes it seem sloppy). This one has it’s own tin, and will be kept in constant supply. I really think I enjoy it more than actual s’mores!

Backlog from this morning – all caught up now!

This tea is definitely good for 2 steeps – around 4 minutes the first time and at least 10 minutes the second time around. And both steepings are freaking perfect. I LOVE this!

Backlog from this morning…

You know what doesn’t work with this tea?

A lower steep temperature. I found this out by accident when my Breville was set to brew at 195 instead of 212 degrees. The lovely chocolate marshmallow graham cracker combination was very weak and unbalanced.

Won’t do that again!

I must say I’m impressed. I usually find Della Terra’s black base to be a bit weak, but this was truly great. The marshmallow flavor is the most prominent, but I also taste hints of graham cracker and chocolate. I may just have to order some of this in the future!

Thanks to JennyFur for sharing!

I polished off my sample from JennyFur today. I absolutely adored the first half of this sample. The marshmallow was oh-so-awesome and the graham cracker and chocolate were beautifully blended together to give me s’mores in a cup.

Imagine my surprise when I took my first sip and all I tasted was soggy graham crackers and nearly no marshmallow (despite seeing a fair number in the sample). Oh man, this is bad. I brewed the same amount of tea for the same time at the same temperature as the first. The only explanation I can possibly offer is that I added slightly too much water. I usually brew about 14 oz. at a time. My cup looks a bit fuller than usual, so my guess is that there’s 15 oz. in there.

I’m dialing down my previous rating a little, because I don’t think such a slight increase in the amount of water should make a tea taste so terrible. I definitely recommend adding extra tea (or using less water) beyond what you think is reasonable when making yourself a cup of this.

My day of sampling Della Terra teas has begun. I want to get an order in while everything’s on sale and so time to dive into my stash of samples…

First up, S’mores. I got this from Alphakitty and have been very excited about it. Seems like its a favorite amongst the steepsterites. It smelled great while steeping and I immediately added just a bit of honey and then a little bit of steamed milk. Yum! I’ll definitely be ordering this. I think I’ll go a little heavier on the leaves in my next cup though. I’m only doing 8oz cups today instead of my usual 16oz mug since I have so many to go through. I don’t want to be bouncing off the walls by the end of the day so I have to hold back.

But so far, 1 for 1.

Weird. My sample had a bunch of mini marshmallows in it. The 1oz bag I ordered doesn’t have a single one. But it’s actually much more flavorful than the sample. I also overleafed as I underleafed last time and didn’t want to make that mistake again. I like this. I don’t love it. But I definitely like it. For the second steep, I added a couple tsp of laoshan black chocolate Genmaicha to add some roastiness. Good combo for sure.

Rough morning for tea so far. I must have underleafed this. Not nearly as good as last time.

So after the recommended steep this tasted like a generic black tea at first. But then…bam! All the flavors hit at the end of the sip; marshmallow with a hint of chocolate and a touch of “bakeiness” that must be graham cracker. It was like going to a party and at the end everyone looks at you and yells “Surprise!!”

Then I accidentally oversteeped the rest. And guess what…it was better! The flavors came to the forefront while the base stayed smooth. Now it was like getting greeted right at the door with big fluffy marshmallow hugs. Now that’s my kinda party!

I think I prefer Love in a Cup due cause of the caramel (over the graham cracker), but this was also yummy. Thanks so much to Emily M for letting me try it!

Cuppa the afternoon…..

This is really good, but not something I must have in my cupboard. The girl scout in me is probably screaming right now, but I think I prefer others from Della Terra over this one.

I get light notes of chocolate, and I can taste the grahm, but I think I am missing that pow of marshmallow I get from Eight Candles. Really, the marshmallow is the right level for this to taste like a smore with most of the marshmallow squished out. I prefer the double marshmallow versions of smores any day, though. I can’t say I would never rebuy this, but there are just so many other flavored teas to ‘entertain’.

Usual mug method just a little heavier on the tea.

Marshmallow Monday?

DRY: mmm! This tea smells just like brownies! Very close to smore brownies I make! http://joythebaker.com/2009/04/smores-brownies/#
Lots of bits in this tea – need to do a good bag shuffle to ensure you get all the little bits!

STEEPED: Light brown tea, smells chocolate liquor like and roasty. The marshmallows dissolved too!

TASTE: Perky bold black tea up front. Graham flavor pops up clearly to me. Chocolate and toasty flavors swings in some sips. Marshmallow sweet aftertaste. The black tea is kinda bitter to me – maybe a shorter steep or lower temp might help out there.
Sweetened, the chocolate comes out more and the black tea tastes quite roasty. Slightly cooled, the sip tastes just like smores on some sips – best flavor!

COMMENTS: Hmmm, I love this tea but some parts I dislike – not sure if I’m liking the black tea used here or maybe I need do adjust the steeping times. However, this one has to be the best black tea/smorey marshmallow tea I’ve tried so far.

NOMNOMNOMMM!

I got this huge sugar chocolate crazy craving. Even more dangerous, a tub of Red Velvet Cake ic ecream in the freezer! That ice cream and Trader Joe’s cookie butter are EVIL! I took a spoon of ice cream and was like yum, but no more! But I was still crawling for sweets – Time to switch to tea!

Of course, I pull out some really desserty teas – this one won! I made it as a latte. I’m at the end of my bag (just 1 serving left!) so the tea is the smushed side, so it seems I got more graham flavor with a little chocolate.

Must hold out till dinner! Then brazilian jiujitsu and after that I’ll be safe from evil ice cream in the freezer!

Delicious, subtle, marshmallowey s’mores! I knew I’d love this one after seeing so many positive reviews pop up on my dashboard. S’mores flavoured things can be a little iffy to me. In general I have found them to be so heavy on the chocolate that it just completely overwhelms everything else. I’m left craving the sweet, toasty goodness of marshmallow and graham. Not so with this one!

The first scent and flavour I get is sweet & fluffy marshmallows. I think it helps that this tea contains both mini marshmallows and marshmallow flavouring. The flavouring really amps things up. And the graham cracker crumbs are just such a lovely touch. I don’t know how much they contribute, but they are fun and I definitely get some sort of toasted graham taste in the background, which is nice. The chocolate is nice and creamy, more like an afterthought. Just perfect.

I think the stronger marshmallow and graham with the subtle chocolate is what really makes this blend taste authentically ’s’mores’. Cause when you think about it, there’s really not that much chocolate in them.

My only wish is that it would brew up a little sturdier – I find it very slightly watered down. Maybe a stronger black tea base would help? But it’s still lovely as it is, if a little light. Some people might even appreciate that about it.

This one is not an instant favourite like Cafe Vanilla was, but it is most certainly a tasty, memorable, and intriguing cup. Falling in love with Della Terra’s flavoured blends, & especially the desserty ones, just like so many of my steepster friends.

I know, it seems obvious… but this tea actually tastes like S’mores.

I had started to feel like the flavored blacks I had from Della Terra were all tasting the same, and I was a little discouraged by this. But holy shit, this is very different. Marshmallow sweet, hot chocolate creamy, with a hint of graham cracker and smoke. I’m pretty impressed.

I just wish I liked Della Terra’s black tea base more, because the flavor of this is so precisely s’mores. I definitely prefer the marshmallow-y goodness of this one to DavidsTea’s Toasted Marshmallow, but I would much rather drink a David’s black.

Still, this is a very tasty cup, and did the trick as a dessert-y tea for me this evening.

Finally finished off my sample of this tea.

It’s not that I don’t like it, it’s fine… I like the smokiness and the burnt kind of marshmallow-y flavor, and the graham cracker is perfect. But the smell reminds me of my farm, and I am finding more and more that Della Terra blends are very hit and miss for me. This one is a bit of a miss, but I appreciate why others might really enjoy it. It’s definitely s’mores-y.

Yum yum yum. Yuuuuum. This is awesome. I was a little worried that the chocolate would overpower the blend, but it just mixes right in. The graham gives it a nice base and the marshmallow smooths out the edges and makes everything a creamy dream. And what I love most is that the flavors don’t overshadow the flavor of the tea, rather, they work with it.

Oh lovely! This is one of the ones I was really looking forward to! I can taste the marshmallows, the graham crackers AND the chocolate. It was almost too much to hope for!

The black tea base is silky smooth, and the melted sugar etc makes me think of caramel goodness, or that toasty bit when the marshmallow is crisped nicely. I steeped it for 4 minutes to make sure the flavor was nice and strong and there’s no astringency. WIN! \0/

So when Frank announced this week’s blend of Genmaicha S’mores, I bought it without hesitation. I hope it’s as good as Browncoat Genmaicha. I also picked up a Raspberry Strawberry Honeybush because more decaf options are always good and that one was rated so highly.

Anyways… now I’m in the mood for S’mores and I won’t get my order for about 2-3 weeks (stupid shipping to Canada… #grumblegrumble). This will have to tie me over! Actually… I’ve only got enough for one more cup after this one so I better make it last.

Unexpected sipdown!

This hit the spot, even though it’s late and I probably shouldn’t be drinking it. I just saw the new Doctor Who and I wanted to celebrate.

I’m drinking so much tea today but I just can’t shake that sleepy feeling. Wakeupwakeupwakeup…

I want to learn Spanish on duolino, and I want to read Anna Karenina so I can finish it for the 25th, and I want to play guildwars2, and I’d like to play Gravity Rush on the Vita. I also want to sort all my tea, but I’m out of mini ziplocks. Watching Sherlock or Doctor Who would also be grand.

This is a nice tea, and I feel I’ve worked my way up to it by drinking ‘regular’ teas first.

Marshmallow awesomeness!

I don’t remember this one having such a graham cracker/roasted smell to it the first time I tried it, but it’s definitely apparent now. And it’s a really nice smell! The smell is sweeter as well, kind of candied. Maybe because I mushed up a few of the marshmallows in it. The brewed tea brings out more of the chocolate and black tea smells, pushing the graham cracker scent to the background.

But yumm does it taste nice – a slight sweetness, lightly chocolate, black tea still apparent and an aftertaste of toasty graham cracker. I can definitely see why it’s one of Della Terra Tea’s highest rated teas on here.

I do so like their chocolate teas. And this one smells really nice. It has a creamy chocolate/ marshmallow flavour. The graham cracker taste is more hidden. Now I need to try this with David’s Toasted Marshmallow.

tattooed_tea

I think I ruined it. I didn’t follow steeping instructions and steeped for nearly 5 mins. My regular for a black tea.

The dry notes smell choclate and marshmallowy. But not or the real variety. A little artificial. I have to say though as it sits beside me after its done steeping it smells like a real s’more is sitting there.

My first two sips were good, not great. I had let it cool significantly. The chocolate is there (I find it artifical like), and then you’re hit with the creamy, gooeyness of marshmallow. I’m not getting Tue graham cracker though. (I wonder what would happen if I added a lil of Whispering Pines graham cracker Rooibos to it?)

My subsequent sips were bitter and very much just black tea. I let it cool too much.
What I do like about this tea over say Teaopia’s s’mores tea, is that the marshmallows actually melt.
Hmm also thinking about trying this on the stove in milk.

I won’t give this a numerical rating until I can try it again at a shorter steep time.

Della Terra Teas has yet to disappoint me. I was beyond ecstatic when I heard they were launching a S’mores flavor tea.

Steep time was right around 2 minutes.

This wasn’t as heavily scented as the other dessert teas from DTT that I have, so I was somewhat concerned that it would not be as flavorful. Not at all the case! This tea starts out with a deep smokey black flavor that was almost a bit startling at first. Next comes the sweet chocolate hues and then creamy marshmallow notes. There is a subtle spice and the full s’mores flavor really forms on the palate after a few sips. Delicious!

I really should try this and add a bit of milk as well as I feel that would drastically bring out some of the flavors. (Being lactose intolerant I never take the time to add milk since I always forget my meds. Lazy me!)

Another lovely dessert tea.

Well, I just got an order of samples from Della Terra. After splitting them up with my mother, I decided to try out the S’mores.

I hate to be the one to say this, as it has such good reviews here, but it does not live up to its name at all. Unless you are imagining sitting around a campfire, making S’mores, when suddenly, a swamp monster from near by snatches it, spits it out, and leaves it all soggy floating in the water. Ok, ok, so the description makes it sound terrible. It’s not terrible, I mean, I like it OK enough. I might even drink another cup some time. But it really is kinda like soggy-swamp-water graham cracker with a hint, just a hint, of curdled marshmallow. But I can dig it if my mood is right.
