Another from the travelling tea box!

I used 2 perfect teaspoons in my Travel Mug and we took it to Point Pleasant park and admired the chipmunks and big fat bluejays. It’s blizzarding where I used to live.. it’s plus 18 here today. WHOOP!

This was a great fall companion tea! The two most prominent flavours I got were sweet apple and cinnamon – it was followed by a caramel and candy taste and something a bit floral, which put me off a bit- and it was almost a bit too sweet for me! There was something strange in the aftertaste, it reminded me a stevia, but I know there is no stevia in the blend. Maybe an aftertaste from the sugar crystals? Either way it was a bit cloying.

Anyways, that’s minor, it was still a yummy blend! Not one I would purchase for myself, but one I was very happy to try!

Oooh no this one tastes odd to me. I am not getting caramel apple at all. It tastes like Thai curry. It’s just really freaking me out because it tastes so much like it. It smells like there’s lemongrass in here, and it tastes like it too; I’m wondering if I got a bad batch? But it doesn’t look like there’s lemongrass in the bag. I am very confused. It smells like a cup of tom yum gai, and now I reeeally want Thai food.

(I think it might be a weird reaction to the dried apple in the bag. Augh, tastebuds, why.)

My last sample from Della Terra! Thankfully I have an order from them in the mail, though (perhaps sadly) I didn’t add this to my order. It smells soooo good, but I have a caramel apple tea from Culinary that I enjoy. This, however, is quite different!

I’ve found that Della’s teas brew a little weak, so I used my whole sample (which was probably good for 2 small cups) on one mug. It’s such a pretty color, just like a shiny red apple! I added sugar and a splash of milk since, hey, it’s a dessert tea! Granted, I made this for the bf and only had a sip myself. It’s tasty, caramel-y and with a strong apple flavor followed by a hint of candy goodness. It’s not a complex or delicate cup, but definitely fixes sugar cravings!

I usually love candy apple teas, so I had high hopes for this one.

I’m so disappointed with the taste. I’m not getting caramel or apples at all. The smell of it when it’s brewed is a bit odd. To me it faintly smells like cleaning supplies and fake butter? Thankfully it doesn’t taste like that, but the taste isn’t great either. Not quite bad enough to dump down the drain (yet) but definitely one that I keep wondering how to fix with every sip.

I must be doing something wrong? :(

Got this in a swap with Tea Sipper, thanks! Interesting that this is caramel AND candy apple… usually they are two different things, not the same, lol. This has large chunks of apple in it, which looked good, but I am not really digging the oily sheen left on top of the tea after steeping. I keep getting wafts of the scent of dried apple chips, which isn’t too surprising I guess, and when I really smell the cup I get a more powerful aroma of cinnamon dried apple chips.

In the flavor I am definitely getting the sweetness of a candy apple, but by and large it is mostly dried apple chips, which are usually very sweet on their own. There’s also a tartness to the aftertaste that also reminds me of apple chips. No caramel to speak of, and a non-present black base (but that wasn’t a surprise). I am kind of surprised as I have had other apple teas with dried apple in them and I don’t get the same sensation, possibly because there is a difference between soft-dried apple rings/chunks and hard-dried apple chips, skin and all.

I’m actually really enjoying this tea, which surprises me. My rating keeps creeping up. I don’t think it’s successful as a caramel OR candy apple tea (and not together for sure), but as an apple tea? Sure! I love those apple chips and now I want a bag of them.

Sipdown, 186. Cold brew.

This one really shines as a cold brew. Of course I also have come to realize that I really like cold brew apple teas. Anyway, to me this tastes even more like dried apple chips, and it is much less cinnamony overall. It was also super pretty in the glass bottle, where you could see the shimmeries all throughout the tea. When I brewed it hot the shimmeries looked like a oil sheen on the top of the cup, but here they were gorgeous. And it was very appley and sweet with a hint of tartness. I really enjoyed this one as a cold brew!

This one’s coming off awfully weird too. I had forgotten that people had remarked previously that it tasted a bit like curry…

Anyhow, it tastes like a stale sort of apple to me. Not that I know what stale apples taste like… well, maybe I’ve previously had stale apple candies of some sort. Anyhow, another one that I’ll have to try again while not sick, and I have plenty left to do so!

So this is a really subtle tea, but it really is caramel apple! I am so digging the apple notes in this tea, especially since it’s not IN YOUR FACE apple…and it’s not that weird fake apple you get when you have apple candies or whatever…it tastes like apple and caramel. There’s a bit of a cinammon taste in this but i’m not sure if it’s ‘cause i didn’t clean up my finum from the last tea. I’m kinda doing a bunch back to back in between wipes tonight (playing WOW).

Sip down! Some day ill manage to get through all my little samples heh I still really like this tea and the apple spice flavour it has is really nicely blended.

Adjusting this ratingdown a bit. I don’t get much in the way of sweet caramel, and I wish there was a bit more spice…which is a little dumb cause I don’t know many candy apples that have spice on them. Heh. Over all this is a nice tea, just a little weak in terms of intensity of flavours. :)

I’m half chuckling that people say this tastes like curry whilst the other half of me is thinking that I really don’t want to drink a curry tea… I wanted it to be sweet.

The raw mixture looks and smells perfect. It smells like apple and caramel in a fairly strong way. It also looks aesthetically pleasing with it’s little red candy pieces, brown caramel pieces and white/yellow apple pieces.

Once steeped the tea becomes reddish brown in colour with a sweet and slightly sour apple smell.

Yummy. I can taste sweet caramel with a hint of apple but it’s smooth and a little creamy… like vanilla but not quite. The apple tastes fresh enough with that slight sweet and sour tang that it naturally has but the caramel and candy give it that oomph in sweetness for a nice boost. I can’t taste curry like other people have stated but I haven’t tasted every single curry in the world so it is still possible that it does.

I wish I had this tea for Halloween… I want to bob for apples and eat ream caramel apples now. :( So long to wait until next Hallows Eve. Watches the clock and waits …. I will be here a long time.

Tis the season for apple teas! This is one I get to sample from the sale Della Terra had. I don’t love this one as much as the Apple Cinnamon Yogurt. I love that there are two different kinds of apple here, but the flavor wasn’t as good as I hoped. There was some kind of flavor there I couldn’t place. The steep color actually looked like apple cider. I couldn’t taste much caramel either, except on the aftertaste. The black tea base was mild but I may have had most of the apples fall into my infuser. There was one chunk of apple that still had the skin on it! The first steep was for six minutes, the second steep had hardly any flavor. I like this one, but it could be better. I love the idea behind the blend though!

My daughter asked me this morning to prepare an apple pie (the classic French one)so did I.
I was looking for a good tea companion for my tarte aux pommes…and remembered Azzrian shared this sample tea with me.
I remembered as well that I already prepared a cup of it 3 days ago and my daughter totally drinked it !

The blend is gorgeous, with big red apple pieces and caramel cubes.
The dry leaf scent is pleasant and I had high expectations.
Unfortunately I probably had too much candy apple teas and this one suffers the comparison.
It is a little bit too weak on the base, the apple taste is nice but I have difficulties to get the caramel flavour.

Anyway this is a pleasant tea but I do prefer Il était une fois Noël from Betjeman & Barton and Pomme d’Amour from Dammann Frères.

This is probably the prettiest tea I’ve had, both the dry leaves and the steeped tea. The red candy sprinkles make it shine and then once steeped the tea is shimmery.

The dry notes smell rather perfumy, I had to sample one of the chunks of apple and a piece of caramel. They also taste perfumey.

The steeped tea smells the same as the dry notes, like perfume. Unfortunetly the tea tastes pretty much the same. Perfume! Yuck. There are hints of caramel and apple, but I couldn’t get past the perfume taste. O had to ditch the tea. Too had :(

Hmm..not quite sure what to think of this one. Definitely not what I was expecting. It’s strange for sure. I’ve been holding off on trying this one since reading Amanda’s note about it. Thai curry flavoured caramel apple tea? No thanks.

After trying it, I can def. get a hint of the curry association. Although I can’t say I’ve had Thai curry very many times anyway. But mostly I just find it perfumey, in a weird way.

I made the mistake of eating one of the caramel chunks from the bag. I couldn’t help it – they looked so yum! But no, they taste like crumbly perfumed caramel ick. Blech. That’ll teach me to pick through my tea for bits :P

Once steeped, it is absolutely gorgeous! It has the same sparkly quality as Glitter & Gold from David’s. I love watching the shimmers swirl around my cup. Ooh and they’re also in some Lush bubble bars! I’m thinking Sunny Side off the top of my head and maybe a Christmas one from last year. Anyway, love the shimmers. They’re mesmerizing!

Unfortunately, this tastes a whole lot like it smells. I’m not really getting a lot of apple, but if I really try I can taste it in the background. I mostly just taste perfumey sweetness, with a hint of that curry-reminiscent something. I don’t hate it, but as a caramel apple tea it’s a bit disappointing. As it cools though, I find myself enjoying it more and more. There’s some odd addictive quality that just won’t let me stop sipping. I can see it maybe growing on me.

Autumn Hearth

Last tea from the traveling tea box brewed up this morning! This tea is sparkly, there are pink shimmering flecks in it, dry tea should not sparkle, nor should vampires. I felt better when I realized they were candy pieces, caramel “candy”, okay I can live with that. So this is another lip gloss tea. Not Lip Smacker this time, no, this is a very particular lips gloss I got in a set of lip glosses years ago, there were in tiny clear hard plastic cases shaped like candy wrappers. Yeah. I see the apple pieces once they have plumped up, but I barely taste them. Not bad just not conjuring up caramel apples for me. But its definitely not the thai curry that Amanda tasted. Farewell Traveling Tea Box, it was fun while it lasted! I just got my order from Verdant in the mail today, as well as another pair of free samples from Nuvola and I still have to review one and brew the other. Plus samples from Michelle and Allison. Feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the tea right now. Going to go curl up with with my cup. Oh who am I kidding? I’m going to log it, after I backlog. Thank you Amanda!

This tea is exactly like stepping into a fall festival and standing in front of a concession stand drooling over all of the caramel and candy apples shown in the windows. Only.. you don’t have to go back and forth over trying to decide if you’d rather go with a caramel or a candy apple. This is the best of both worlds!

Steep time was right at about 2 minutes.

Phenomenal tea. If you like fall teas or dessert teas or tea in general do your moth a favor and give this one a try!

Playing around with the steep time of this one, I did a new cup for 5 minutes. Bolder flavor but bordering on the bitter after notes. I think 4 minutes will be just perfect in the future.

Goodness this tea is so good.

Mmmm, this tea looked really fun so I had to snag it during my last order! I love candy apples – especially the crazy ones with cheesecake, cookies, chocolate chunks and marshmallows on them!

DRY: very fun looking! Cubes of caramel and tiny sparkley red candy bits!
STEEPED: interestingly, I smell apple skin. The tea comes out a brown with a bit of cloudyness.

TASTE: Tastes like biting into a real apple (skin and all) with a hint of candy sweetness and caramel. The black tea is very light here.
With sweetener, this tastes more like candy apple and brighter caramel. No tartness or bitterness.

COMMENTS: Very well executed! I’m surprised how natural the apple tastes here. I’m a little torn as I do like this unsweetened, but sweetened it’s totally a candy apple!

Totally dragging my butt this morning and wanted something sweet. For some reason this tea tastes more over the top apple skin flavor than normal today.
Not getting the caramel, but digging the natural apple flavor.

Man, I want a candy apple! Or not, I should go workout.

Got enough for a cup of this from someone in a trade. Delicious. Tasted like a creamy caramel with a bit of apple. It had little red candy bits in it. The stuff you actually get on a real candied apple. The teas so pretty to. It tasted really good. Sweet and the caramel flavor and apple is there shining through. I did it at 3 minutes on a suggestion.

Smells and tastes like perfume for first and second steep. Definitely not my cup of tea.

So I gave this tea another try after giving it a 25/100 before for having this perfume taste and this time that was gone – perhaps I had made somethign with rose recently and that carried over? Who knows. But there is this very so slight taste that is just odd. The main thing with this tea though is the apple. The apple definitely comes through and tastes amazing. The caramel is also there and quite tasty. This is definitely now on reorder list.

Well, the look of this tea is fascinating, with all the chunks and bits in it of the various ingredients. I can definitely smell the caramel in the dry tea, though not much of the apple.

Adding sugar and milk to this tea (because it’s a dessert tea, because it’s a black tea, because I just ate a raspberry white chocolate scone and I’m primed for sweetness) so it’s obviously bringing the flavours out more than it would otherwise. It smells perfumey, like some other reviewers mentioned and it tastes a bit perfumey too, and that takes away from the niceness of this tea. I can still taste the caramel and some of the apple though, so it does have it’s redeeming qualities. An okay blend but I won’t be reordering.

First cup of the year! This tea was pretty much spot on with the flavors. It’s sweet but it still has that taste of apple. Mmmmmmmmm :)

I’m trying to get through the tea I have before I go and buy some more. I’m realizing I have a lot more tea than I thought I did…
I never noticed the sparkles that this tea gets when steeped. It’s beautiful! I still love the sweet flavors of this tea :)
