Walnut Brittle

Green Tea by Della Terra Teas

If you love walnut this is a must have! For this green tea we have combined a most amazing walnut brittle with real walnut pieces and halves, China Sencha green tea, pineapple pieces and coconut flakes. WAIT, coconut and pineapple flakes in my walnut tea? WHY? After many blending we realized all the flavors married together created the most aromatic and flavorful walnut taste imaginable. This evokes the classic woodsy taste of an English Walnut, right in your very own cup.

Ingredients: Chinese sencha green tea, walnut taste with walnut and hazlenut brittle, pineapple pieces, coconut flakes.

Suggested brewing tips:
- Serving Size: 1 level tsp./6oz serving
- Water Temp: 210°F
- Steep Time: 2- 3 minutes

Awwwww nuts! ;)
Yep, I can definitely taste the Walnut here. It’s mighty good. The coconut is there to. The pair seem to get along well together. In my mind, they have a rather similar mouthfeel so perhaps that’s why?
However, I’m not so sure i like the addition of pineapple. It lends a fruity aspect that I feel just doesn’t belong. Also, there is an odd stale note/scent. Often, I notice that with nuts in general, so don’t go by my note. People tell me they don’t taste it when I often do so it might just be my wacky buds.
Anyhow, I like this tea! Of course it is making the roof of my mouth a little raw so I’m not sure about a second infusion :(

On the Seventh Day of Christmas, DTerra Teas sent me this tea!

http://sororiteasisters.com/2012/12/20/on-the-seventh-day-of-christmas-della-terra-teas-sent-to-me/

I enjoyed this first (and possibly only?) green tea in the DTerra Teas 12 Days of Christmas box. I loved the toasty sweetness of the walnuts, and the coconut added creaminess to the cup. I liked the fruit elements in this because it kept the flavors interesting. A very delightful tea!

The ingredients on this one seem a little perplexing, so I got a sample size only in my Try Me pack. I mean, a green walnut tea I can get behind, but with coconut and pineapple?! Uhh it sounds good, but very tropical and not at all like walnut brittle or reminiscent of English forests as the description claims. So I ordered this with skepticism, hoping for the best but expecting something… weird. Holy cow, I was wrong! I opened up the bag and the dry leaves smell like walnut candy. No tropical scent to be found, though there’s a good bit of coconut and pineapple in my sample. Curious!

There was one huuuge walnut in my bag, but I broke it up into little pieces just to evenly distribute the nutty goodness. The whole time I was preparing this tea (cooling the water, adding the leaves to the teapot, brewing it, etc) I was blown away by the smell. I want to eat these leaves, it’s just SO good! And the flavor… it’s even better. I honestly think some kind of magic must have gone into this tea, it is so very much walnut candy in a cup. Rich, buttery walnut! I think the green tea was a really good choice, it adds a flowery lightness and a buttery quality without overpowering the walnut: I think as a black tea this would be very different and not nearly as good.

Now, about the pineapple and coconut… I can’t taste them! Well, not as individual elements. There’s an almost-fruitiness, a creaminess possibly from the coconut, and a honey-sweetness I suppose is also coming from them. But damn, I would never in a million years guess the ingredients here! The more I drink, the more I am so in love with this. It really has almost cake-y notes, a strong vanilla taste and it really is like a baked cake with walnut brittle on top. Like… a vanilla cupcake, with a creamy frosting and then sprinkled with walnut brittle! It might seem crazy but I swear it is JUST what this tea tastes like. It’s so addictive, I am already on my second cup and think I can get 3 brews out of these leaves easy.

Thankfully my sample has enough for about 3 goes, but I know I need more of this in my life. It is SO good, I really want to try it iced now! Or make ice cream out of it… or buttercream frosting. Real, 6 stick of butter style buttercream, not wussy 1-stick frosting with tons of powdered sugar. Oh god the idea of baking with this tea is making my mouth water… if you are wondering what teas to start with from Della Terra (since they have a huge selection!) I would say this and Mother of Pearl: both are very, very special teas that I must always have on hand!

holy wow, this one is divine and luxurious and I think it was blended just for me. Pecans, walnuts, hazelnut, coconut, pineapple! Such an amazing flavor. It’s so creamy and sweet. It’s almost too sweet. I steeped these green tea leaves for 3-4 minutes and they didn’t get bitter at all. I didn’t immediately think of pina coladas… but maybe I haven’t had many of them. There was definite pineapple flavor, coconut sweetness and nuttiness to it. It seems like it wouldn’t work but it does! It kind of reminds me of SpecialTeas Vienna Winter Green or California Tea House’s Pistachio gelato… just without the pistachio.

Yum. I’m totally digging the nutty teas. Thanks Alphakitty for this one. This is going on the must buy list for della terra. Perfect tea for after dinner.

What?!? I haven’t reviewed this yet? How terrible of me.

This is my second cup of this and it is amazingly delicious. It’s nutty, slightly sweet and a bit fruity. So much walnut flavour. This is a great any time tea. So in love with this one. Perhaps it may be my fav green tea.

Walnut teas are just so yummy! I don’t think I enjoyed this quite as much as I enjoyed DavidsTea’s take on it, but it was still creamy, nutty, and delicious. The coconut just enough to make the tea creamy. I didn’t taste any pineapple. The green tea base was smooth and yummy!

Sidenote: Anyone else get a burnt feeling in their mouth when they drink walnut teas? I got that with both walnut teas I tried. It wasn’t so intense in this one, but it was still there.

My very first order from Della Terra was for one of their Mystery Boxes which included this tea. While I can’t say that it was love at first sight (taste?), I grew to enjoy this tea. It’s creamy and walnutty— in fact, I found several walnut HALVES in this tea! The pineapple adds a nice sweetness that rounds out the flavor. That being said, I just didn’t love it enough to finish the full 2 oz., so I swapped the rest away to someone who hopefully will enjoy it more than I did. :)

I noticed that the info posted here suggests steeping at 210, while the package suggested 160. I went with 160 and enjoyed the results.

Thank you so much to Sandy’sCuppa for so generously sending me this in a swap.

The dry tea smells amazing, like sweet walnuts. There is green tea with peices of nuts throughout. Brewed the tea smells almost exactly like baklava. I spent 5 minutes just smelling the tea before I even tasted it. Smelled so amazing!

The liquor is dark yellow-green, looks almost cloudy.

The tea tastes creamy, buttery, nutty, delicious. I am getting some walnut flavour but mostly hazelnut. The tea is not overly sweet, which is good. Sometimes walnuts make my tongue tingle, and I am getting a little bit of this while drinking the tea, but I am more than ok with that.

Delicious tea!

mmm I love walnuts in tea! I had to give this one a shot!

DRY: sweet, pineapple smell. I found I had a half a walnut in my tea! So tempted to eat it, but I left it in the bag.

STEEPED: nutty smell. Yellow tea.

TASTE: Sweet with a hit of nutty walnut. The tea is lightly creamy and green tea taste.

COMMENTS: I can’t help to think of DavidsTea “toasted walnut”. In comparison, WB is more sweet and the walnuts really pop out. However, TW is more creamy. Both good teas! I drank this one in record time – totally need this iced next time!

I forgot I had this tea! I was in a hurry to make some cold steeps before I went out to do grocery shopping.

I cold steeped this.. uhh.. a couple hours? I forgot which one was this one until I took a sip. Coconut? Walnut – ahh walnut brittle!

I got this in my mystery box! Wow, what a surprise! Perfection – that’s all I can say. Growing up we had a walnut tree in the side yard and my mom would make walnut pralines. Oh the memory’s this tea brought back. My second steep was just as nice as the first. No noticeable difference. The third steep lost a little of the sweetness but was still strong on the walnut flavor. I added 1 cube of sugar and it was just as enjoyable as the first steep. I’m glad this was a 2oz pouch.

Smells fantastic dry (!), less exciting brewed but still nutty (you can smell both nuts, walnut and coconut, which is cool) and creamy and rich. I don’t really smell fruit initially. There is a toasty thing going on, maybe from the green tea base. I’m impressed with how smooth this tea is, not astringent or rough on the tongue at all (you know how biting walnuts can be?). As it cools, the nuttiness recedes a little and I begin to taste a bit of the pineapple. I love how teas transform like that, with first and second acts! I also really like how the sweetness comes in at the end of the swallow, a happy finishing note. Really doesn’t need milk or sugar.

The sample packaging didn’t give steeping directions and I made the mistake of brewing this like the other teas I have from them, at around boiling. Next time I will try this at a much lower, green tea-friendly temp.

This smells like a mix of winter baking and a summery pina colada, a sort of oxymoron of tea flavors. I was intrigued but a little unsure of how it would go together. Quite well, it turns out. It tastes like a walnutty caramel cake, but a light, fresh version if that makes any sense. It’s not as sweet as it smells, which is nice because it works both as a green tea with just a little oomph, or more of a dessert tea if sweetened. The green tea base works perfectly to complement the flavors without overpowering them. The pineapple has disappeared and the coconut is barely noticeable in the background; I think I only pick up on it because I know it’s there, but it smooths out the tea nicely. Considering I’ve already gone through two large mugs of this and it’s only been twenty minutes, I’d say it’s a hit.

Thanks again to KiwiDelight for the swap! This one is awesome :) I love a good sencha and the walnutty/coconutty flavoring compliments it nicely! This is going on my next Della Terra order list!

Sample sipdown! This one is still probably my favorite Della Terra tea I’ve tried :)

First try. My phone was on silent, so my tea-timer did not alert me that this was done steeping, and I may have left it sitting a little longer than I should have…That said, Walnut Brittle has a lovely delicate walnut taste, and opening the lid of my cup to see the beautiful green tea leaves having unfurled was a pretty sight. I’m currently enjoying this with a teaspoon of raw sugar, and it’s going down quite nicely.

Brewed this one again this morning, and have to reduce the score. It’s green, it’s not got a lot of flavor, and the pineapple doesn’t do a whole lot for it. More walnut flavor would make this baby more interesting, but it just isn’t there.

Smells AMAZING! Definitely tastes nutty—it’s absolutely delicious. I can’t think of a single bad thing to say about this tea. I’m on my second steep and it’s just as good as the first. The leaves still smell fragrant, so I might even go for a third. It’s creamy, probably from the coconut, but all the way through is just that wonderful walnut flavor. Why do I only have a sample size? :’(

Let me just say, I love that Della Terra Teas has a ‘build your own try me pack’. Pretty awesome.

This is so delicious. The fact that it has pineapple and coconut kind of worried me at first, but I can’t taste them. I taste a nutty sweetness, without any hint of ‘tropical’ flavoring. The green tea base keeps it light and smooth.

Della Terra has created yet another great tea blend. I’m partial to green tea, so I love that this has a green tea rather than black tea base. It definitely tastes like walnut with notes of caramel. Such a sweet, light, yet flavorful tea. It’s definitely a dessert tea that I look forward to brewing.
