From the GCTTB. This is another one from Della Tera that I’ve been wanting to try. I love cinnamon buns but since I’ve discovered a gluten intolerance I’ve not been able to have anything more than a bite every blue moon. So if I could find a tea that tastes like them I’d be in heaven.

Dry the tea smells quite nice, like a cinnamon bun though not as yeasty. (I personally like my cinnamon buns to be a bit yeasty but that’s just me :D). The liquor is a dark medium brown and smells of sweet cinnamon and butter. There’s a few darker notes from what I’m guessing is the black tea but nothing particularly distinct.

I ended up having to oversteep this to get close to the kind of flavor that I was hoping for. So after 7 minutes it ended up being a bit bitter but it was pretty close to a mild cinnamon bun. Lovely buttery notes blended well with the sweet cinnamon and the black tea gives off a few yeasty tones as well. It just wasn’t as cinnamon bun like as I was hoping it would be… The yeast notes fom the black tea didn’t quite translate into the baked goodness that a cinnamon bun is but it was pretty close.

A pretty decent tea overall, though it doesn’t quite live up to its namesake, but that’s ok.

I think it is awesome that the box has teas you have been hoping to try. I am sorry it wasn’t what you hoped it would be.

If you ever get a chance you should try Brioche American Tea Room – it’s really close to real yeasty cinnamon bun. One of the only teas that actually tastes like bread to me. The other one that is really good – different than Brioche, but really good is Cinnamon Swirl Bread sTEAp Shoppe. Brioche is yeasty bread – Cinnamon Swirl Bread is goooey caramel frosting sticky buns. I would recommend you giving both of them a try. :))

@VariaTEA. It’s been great, I’ve really been enjoying myself! And don’t get me wrong, I’ve enjoyed all of the teas that I’ve tried so far, some just not enough to purchase for myself. :) Honetstly I think my palette is changing a bit too. I’ve been drinking a number of straight teas lately and I’ve been noticing that when I go back to some of my favorite flavored teas I’m just not liking them as much as I used to (though there are others that I like just as much, so I’m not totally turned off of flavored teas :))

@Dexter. Awesome! Thanks for the reccomendations, I’ll have to see if I can track those down to try.

Merry Christmas to all of you amazing wonderful Steepsterers!

I must mention that I’m hesitant to write comments on anyone else’s tasting notes anymore, since I don’t get e-mail alerts if anyone replies back. I’m not ignoring anyone… I just don’t see the reply.

Another Cinnamon roll/bun tea I am now trying. It was my free sample with my Della Terra order. When I saw “spices” I started thinking of Della Terra’s dreaded ‘Dirty Chai’. Though I think that teas fault was the inclusion of coffee beans that may not have the freshest when I tried it (and I don’t love coffee anyway). I’m not sure if it was because I waited for a few minutes after boiling, but this steeped up a very light brown after a few minutes. The smell of the dry leaves is VERY nice but the flavor just seems like chai to me.. maybe with more cinnamon. It’s also very like ‘Cinnamon Crackle’. The orange peel is sorta odd unless you think of the rolls with orange frosting. I’m not resteeping this one due to it being so weak the first time around, but this certainly isn’t as bad as ‘Dirty Chai’. Fusion’s Cinnamon Roll blend seems much more accurate to that flavor but that one is kind of magical and is only missing a bready black tea base.

I’ve not had any monkey bread, so I don’t know what it’s like. So this tea makes me think of cinnamon rolls. The flavour is sweet, creamy, and spicy. And also like having the pineapple cake tea (sans pineapple.)
It certainly smells really good.

I received this in an amazing swap box from scribbles. Thank you so much!! I would never have chosen this for myself. From the name I would have thought banana nut bread, and wouldn’t even have clicked on it to find out different.
This is a nice cinnamon black tea. It’s almost carameley to me, and there are more spices than just cinnamon. It says chai spices, but there isn’t quite enough spice for me to call it chai. This is just a really nice creamy, cinnamony, desserty black tea.
I’m quite enjoying it. Thanks scribbles!!!

I’m having a slow wake-up morning and nothing fixes that like a spicy black tea, especially a cinnamon one. Thanks, MirandaGou for sending me this in our swap!

This certainly smells like baked goods! It’s not as natural a smell as ATR’s Brioche (not fair, but I can’t help comparing them at least a little), but it is definitely some kind of cinnamon pastry.

This steeps up surprisingly dark, all while smelling like one of those “cinnamon spice” candles everyone sells around the holidays. I let it keep going until it looked like it was done (five minutes), because with DT’s blends I’d rather it be too strong than too weak. It tastes…a bit like coffee, actually. Like one of Starbucks’ seasonal lattes. It’s not a bad taste, but not what I was expecting at all. There is an artificiality to it and the flavoring tastes like an extract rather than the real thing. Still decent for what it is but I wouldn’t restock.

ETA: Cooled down ten degrees and completely changed. Unfortunately this is way too much cinnamon even for me. I’m not getting cinnamon bun at all, just an overdose of that cinnamon glaze.

It’s funny, I think Monkey Bread is a better name for it! But now I’m sure I’ll have to get my hands on some Brioche.

This is my first tea review! After ordering several teas from Della Terra Teas, I was very much looking forward to the Monkey Bread sample. It smelled good upon opening the package but was a little strange to measure as it was clumpy. I was glad I used my Teavana steeper for this one as the hot water dissolved the clumps and I was better able to stir them to help the process along. As the clumps broke apart, little white particles appeared. Maybe the yogurt bits? Anyway, it was a fairly tasty cup but I’m not sure what I think of it yet. There’s something a bit odd about the flavor but I’m looking forward to giving it another try before I finalize my opinion. This tea was prepared with boiling water and steeped for 4 min.

Yay for your first review! ;)

Ummm… Not sure what to think of this one. Tastes like a mildly flavored cinnamon black tea. I must say I don’t taste the creaminess that I expected. The cinnamon flavor is more on the subtle side, which is good, although it has a slightly artificial tinge to it. I do not dislike it, yet there’s something about this tea that doesn’t sit well with me (or my taste buds)… The subsequent cups might change my mind though, and the rating.

Dustin

The whole name change for that tea throws me off. Monkey Bread makes me expect a lot of banana, while Cinnamon Bun makes me think gooey cinnamon pastry… totally different expectations!

Kat_Maria

I think I know the source of confusion… maybe! Monkey bread is the name for a gooey cinnamon pastry sold usually at fairs here in PA (Not sure if that’s true for the rest of the states or not). And the Della Terra guys are actually from the same area I live in (central PA), so it’s probable we’ve had a monkey bread from the same annual fair! ;D I think they might have changed the name because ‘monkey bread’ did not sound familiar to a lot of people?

Dustin

I have never heard of it before! Didn’t know it was a thing, but now I’m curious!

Kat_Maria

I thought that might be the case! I am really clueless as to the origins of the name though… What is ‘monkey’ about it? No idea.

I go through phases with tea where I’ll have one that I really love and that’s all I feel like drinking, all day for multiple days in a row. This is totally it for me. Sweet cinnamon goodness.

From the Great Canadian Travelling tea box
Had this as my morning tea this morning and it was quite good. I found the cinnamon to be a little strong, and it was like cinnamon heart cinnamon, not the warm fuzzy natural cinnamon flavour. I could detect hints of the bread part, but it was quite drowned out by the cinnamon. A tasty tea, but not one I would order.

The more tea I drink, the less I am able to enjoy a cup that relies mostly on artificial flavors. Most of the Della Terra dessert teas I’ve tried do just that. This one tastes just like a warm gooey cinnamon bun. There is a natural cinnamon flavor present, but there is also plenty of artificial flavor to back it up. It smells like a cinnamon bun candle. Honestly, I’d rather just eat a real cinnamon bun and wash it down with a cup of plain black tea.
