Fujian Premium Black

Black Tea by Dragon Pearl Whole Teas

Our Jin Leung (“Dragon’s Gold”) is perhaps the finest and freshest black tea available outside of China. Rarely imported to the West, this special loose black tea (also called “red tea” in China) is grown organically only in the Fujian Mountains. In China, black tea is referred to as hong cha—red tea—but should not be confused with the Rooibos red bush tea that westerners call “red tea.”

When steeped, this variety is more similar to English black, only without added flavors and very fresh. These dark red leaves bring forth a rich, deep flavor, distinctly black but with an earthy-woody after-flavor. The air-tight paperboard container and sealed inner bag keep it fresh. Excellent English style with milk and sugar as well as “straight up.”

Nothing exciting. Just a morning cuppa.

Am mixing the last bit of this with the Supreme Yunnan from last night. What can I say, Fujian Premium Black. It has been a long ride, and you, in all your mediocrity, have stuck by me through thick and thin. You were a decent daily drinker.

Cold. Hardly premium.

Spicing it up with Citrus Ginger herbal blend.

Mixing it up with Boston Tea Co’s Cranberry Blood Orange Rooibos.

On the go cuppa.

Added some of this to the almost-spent leaves of Teavana’ Black Dragon Pearl, hoping to coax more flavour from either/both.

Mixed with Boston Tea Company’s Blood Orange Rooibos

Cold, first thing, leftover from last night.

After drinking Assam and Darjeeling for many years, this was a nice change. Jin Leung has a great taste and an earthly finish that is refreshingly different then the Indian teas.

I was inspired to try this after enjoying Dragon Pearl’s jasmine. Unfortunately, their black is fairly boring and unremarkable.
