Mahagastotte Estate Reserve

Black Tea by Drink T

Ceylon is the ancestral name of the island nation of Sri Lanka, located off the southeastern coast of India. The name of the country was changed in 1972 but the teas are still known as Ceylon’s.

The Mahagastotte Estate is in the Nuwara Eliya district in the shadow of Pidurutalagala, Sri Lanka’s highest mountain. Mahagastotte in the native language means “place with large trees”. Teas from this estate are sometimes known as Lover’s Leap, a reference to the story of the King’s daughter who jumped off the mountain precipice with her forbidden lover.

Our selection is a medium body black tea with a fragrant bouquet and aromatic flavor, making it the perfect first cup of the day or a quick afternoon pick me up.

This is a lovely cup. Too bad it has a morbid story behind the estate (see product description). Anyhow…I am really enjoying this tea! It’s medium to strong leaning more toward the stronger side. It’s has a pleasant and even (not overly done) non-bitter-black tea/chewy/floral type smell to it. It’s pretty flavorful and yummy! Nice even taste from start to finish!

I am upping this rating by a few – this is a solid black, actually, it’s better than solid – it’s a great black. HD had a cup with Sugar and said it was terrific!

Backlogging from earlier this week…YUM!

A wonderful Black Tea! Hearty but both bold and beautiful, too! Check out my previous tasting notes…

Excellent! Backlogging from last night. DH likes it too!

This is a remarkable black tea – very even tone to it. Pleasant chewiness, and even a hint of a malty note that is a bit uncharacteristic for a Ceylon tea! But the thing I’m enjoying most about it is that so delightful sweetness that is very honey-like. It is robust and brisk and yet smooth.

I am getting no bitterness to it at all, just a very pleasant, sweet flavor. There is only a slight astringency to it… it’s VERY VERY GOOD.
