This selection is the tea of choice for lovers of heavy roast Oolongs. It is from a batch of tea leaves that were harvested four years ago, processed in the standard Dong Ding manner, then set to age. The leaves were then repeatedly roasted each year or two – so they have been lightly “re-roasted” 3-4 times since their initial processing. The storing of tea leaves in a non-vacuum-sealed container allows them to continue to oxidize very slowly and develop a naturally mellowed character. The repeated slow-roasting at low temperatures removes the moisture content that the leaves absorb, and further cures the leaves – giving the tea a charcoal-smoked/peaty, rich and hearty flavor. It is an extraordinarily smooth and full flavored tea. We find it most suitable for morning tea or cooler seasons – due to its substantial, mellow, roasty character. Aged oolongs are relatively rare by nature, and are growing in popularity in Taiwan.
