Our special grade gunpowder green tea comes from the Pingshui region of the northern Zheijiang province. After the tender young tea leaves has been withered and steamed, it is rolled into small pellets. Due to its compact rolling, this Pingshui Gunpowder stays fresh longer and less is required to make a great cup of tea. This tea produces a light greenish-yellow liquid and has a slightly smoky flavor with a smooth stimulating taste. The gunpowder is also known to be a very good drink in the morning.

One of my daughters brewed a pot for me to try tonight and it was delicate and delicious. it made a lovely golden brew that had a nice taste, but I could not identify any particular note.

My first gunpowder tea. Vegetal and a little almost smokey. Not bad, but not my favorite.

I’m very curious to try gunpowder! And after reading your post about what you got in the mail, I’m quite tempted to try that green tea sampler! But not yet, I just ordered a gunpowder sample from Harney. :D

Totally do it! The little box with the little tins is cute, and they seem to hold quite a lot. For both the two I tried so far, I used 4-5 tsp and barely made a dent. The gunpowder was so full, I accidently spilled some out on the counter opening it. I just measured one that I haven’t tried yet, and it was 20 tsp of tea. So even using 2 tsp like they suggest its 10 servings each. I really like green teas but don’t know the differences between varieties and thought this would be perfect!

I’m more focusing on Japanese greens at the moment but they have a Japanese Green sampler too! :D So I may grab that soon. I saw that it’s between 0.5 ounce and 1.5 ounces of each tea and that does seem like a lot. Hooray!

Delicate, green taste. Beautiful tea, and overall an excellent brew. This was my first gunpowder green tea, and I’m impressed.

Kinda tastes like smoking a cigarette. Not exactly what I look for in a tea, but I kept with it because I needed to wake up. High caffeine levels for a green tea.

I enjoy the aroma more than the taste on this one. Pretty golden color. Steeped for 40 seconds just below boiling.
