Dragon Well (Lung Ching)

Green Tea by EnjoyingTea.com

This extraordinary green tea comes from the city of Hangzhou in Zhejiang province. The flat leaves are harvested in early spring when the leaves are full of aroma and have a silvery shine. Dragon Well is prepared using traditional methods from the most tender tea leaves. These leaves produce a soothing and refreshing champagne colored liquid full of freshness. Semi-sweet in taste and orchid-like in smell, Lung Ching is one of the most famous green tea in China.

One of the packages in my tea blitz was a wonderful envelope from TeaEqualsBliss packed to the brim with goodies! I laid them all out on my living room table and basked in their gloriousness for a while before sniffing all of them (and having the bf stick his nose in about half!). The next day, I asked what tea he wanted for the evening and he replied with “that one you had me sniff that smelled like a field.” Mm, very helpful! We knew it was from the envelope, and I went through every tea looking for a “field smell” before realizing it was the cute little tin of dragonwell I’d put in the cupboard already! Oops.

This is a nice, basic dragonwell. A little grassy, a little nutty. Very plant-y, which I do enjoy! And yes, it does smell like a field. There’s no astringency even though I wasn’t very good about cooling the water, which is nice. I think this is a good, everyday green—plus it comes in a teeny little tin! It’s just so cute.

SIPDOWN!

Hmm, I don’t think I added enough leaf to this cup. Or the leaves are just too old. This is a sample from LiberTEAS that I received in December 2011! So, it is super old and wasn’t exactly stored under ideal conditions. It tastes very faintly of green tea, but it’s mostly just a cup of warm water.

Oh well. I guess I botched this one by letting it sit around for so long. As a result, my rating is reflective of its current average here on Steepster. Thanks anyway to LiberTEAS!!! I really need to get better about drinking my swap samples shortly after they arrive.

After 36 hours of illness I am feeling well enough again to have my tea but I figured it would be better to err on the side of caution and stick to something a little gentler.

The color of the liquor reminds me of “green” twigs that have had the bark stripped off. That pale pale blond with just a hint of green. And the taste, mmmmm, just what I needed. Sweet, vegetal, a hint of nuttiness every now and then. Definitely what I needed this morning.

A wonderfully soothing and restorative cup. I’ve had a rather busy day although I’ve found moments to enjoy the tea, especially earlier today. This is a little later than I like to be sipping on caffeinated teas, but, I really needed a little something to invigorate me, and this is what I chose.

It’s a lovely Dragon Well. Pleasant, nutty, sweet with notes of grassy/vegetal taste. Nice.

Enjoying a nice cup of Dragon Well this evening. Warm and soothing, and quite refreshing too.

A nice standby for a Dragon Well. Not bad at all. It’s not awesomely-wonderful gotta-have 6 times a day but it’s tasty and I would drink on occasion!

this dragon well has light green with a hint of gold liquer. its taste is not astringent as long as you steep it at the correct temperature and not for too long. on the nose it smells both clean and slightly grassy. the taste has notes of “green things” grass, plants, a sweet hint of flower.

great morning tea to start the day.

one of the first teas i had ever tasted and still a staple in my cupboard

Good and pungent. Hitting me right where I need it this morning to wake up the senses and put me to work.
