Now enjoyable outside monastery walls we are proud to offer this very elegant and intriquing tea blend which derived from a centuries old treasured secret recipe. This uncomparably delectable blend could be considered almost holy and is said to free the mind, engage the spirit and calm the soul. Our blend shows the following noble character attributes: the taste sensation of grenadine enhanced with soft vanilla-, bergamot- and floral notes combined with a select blend of black teas from China, Ceylon and India, accented with real Assam tea flowers and blue mallow blossoms. Tea friend ashmanra sent me a cup’s worth so I could compare to my old-faithful Monk’s Blend from Culinary Teas (Metropolitan/Mlesna). First, this is several years fresher than my old-faithful, so all the flavors are stronger - but the floral/bergamot vibe comes through first. I’m not normally a floral fan, but the vanilla balances it enough I don’t feel like I’m swigging my Mother’s Day bouquet water.

The description of this tea caught my attention. It has a lot of elements I really enjoy like vanilla and bergamot but it also had a few I’ve never tried like grenadine and tea flowers.
The fragrance was a strong berry-and-bergamot. The leaves were dark and crumbly and the add-ins appeared shriveled and faded versus just dried. It wasn’t as vibrant as pictured.
Once prepared, the tea had a strong candy-like smell; think candied apple without the apple. The taste was vaguely tart and subtly fruity with a lingering vanilla aftertaste. There was also something completely unidentifiable-possibly the tea flowers?
This was an odd one but it grew on me. I really liked the flavor and fragrance but it could have looked a little better. I’ll probably try another bag later in the year to see if there’s any difference in that regard.
Another tea from PaulMTracy! The aroma of this tea is quite good – it has a candy-fruit scent. But when sipped, the taste insisted, “I am a French tea!” There is such a mix of flavors in the tea, and they balanced them so well, that I really feel as though I am drinking a cup from Dammann Freres or Mariage Freres. The grenadine is balanced by the soft vanilla, and the tea base tastes so much like the base for some of the French teas I have tried – a tad astringent but not much, probably to balance with all the many flavors mixing here. A very enjoyable and social cup of tea! Thank you, Paul!
