From Fusion Teas

South American yerba mate makes the perfect base for this invigorating fusion blend. Raspberries smooth out the boldness of the yerba mate creating a delicious pick me up cup. Antioxidant rich and packed with vitamins and minerals help guard you against the outside elements. Wonderful neat or with a splash of cream and sugar.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is a de-cupboarding! I’ve been drinking the remains of this sample for the past few days in an attempt to finish it up, and am glad to have done so. While there is a fairly authentic raspberry taste to this mate there is also a strong smokiness which seems more intense than it was when I first tried it a few months ago. It’s not particularly offensive, but it is unexpected. As the cup cools I find the smokiness really develops and takes over the sip, leaving a smoky taste in the mouth afterward. Different!

Off first smell of the loose leaf it made me think of a raspberry popsicle. The smell was a bit harsh for the Shade Tree pallet, as I have never been able to handle strong fruity smells. The loose leaf was a bit crumpled like it had gotten wet. It possible was the saffron as I do not know anything about this ingredient. The blend had an interesting look, like there was fungi on there. This could have been due to how long I have had it as well.

On first taste, I was still weary of the smell but the taste was awesome. It was savory and smooth, with a bitter after taste which was awesome. The Mate had a significant presence which is key.

My conclusion on this blend is that the smell is overbearing for a traditional pallet. Once brewed it is very tasty, and iced or soda mate could be amazing. This blend may smell foul, but tastes great! Makes me want to make mate popsicles! Great Blend Fusion Tea Room!

The fungi looking stuff is from the raspberry leaves :) They kind of look like lint.

I really like the raspberry flavor this mate has. I drink my tea straight up, and the flavor of this is perfect. I have just started drinking yerba mate, and I received some sample packs from Fusion Tea room. I like to purchase a variety of flavors, so I am excited about the variety they have.
Drinking the raspberry right now, Like it.
