Indigobloom

Ugh just got home and I am soooo tired. Sorry all for the hasty and short reviews. I ended up trying a bunch of new ones today by chance so bear with me!
This tasted like regular mate to me. The lime came through a little but not enough to identify it if I didn’t know it was there. Or maybe that was the pistachio? shrugs
Anyhow thank you Kristaleyn for this sample!! I have more than enough for another cup, maybe it will reveal some secrets ;)

Sooo uh pretty sure this was indigobloom again but if not, i apologise. This smells a lot like lime…or in the case of my other half – cloves? haha Theres a taste here there that i can’t identify…mostly this tea leaves me full of questions. Why does is taste like this? Does all mate taste like this? lol in all seriousness, leaving a raiting off this one because i’m just not sure what to make of it. I don’t hate it, but i don’t love it. :)

Thank you to Fusion Tea Room for the absolutely HUGE box of samples I received a couple days ago! Wow, I cannot believe the generosity of the tea companies I’ve been dealing with lately. And the customer service has been spectacular with all of them :D

Onto the review. The dry tea definitely has a limey smell. Exciting; I love lime. I’m not getting any pistachio smell, but then again… do pistachios even really have a smell? I know what they taste like, but…. Anyways, I’m also smelling a bit of what’s making me think of a medicinal smell. I don’t know if it’s the mate or green rooibos; I don’t have an awful lot of experience with either. Let’s see how it is steeped.

Forgot to log notes on steeping aromas again. Oops. I also did steep this one too long, and should try a shorter infusion next time.

Hmm, I’m getting almost a bit of a medicinal taste. Or that’s how it’s coming off to me. I blame the green rooibos. I can definitely taste the lime, which is lovely, but I’m not catching the pistachio. Hrm. This tastes familiar, and not in a good way, unfortunately. It reminds me of a tea from DavidsTea that I wasn’t fond of. Oh – in a way it’s reminding me of Honeybee. That’s probably the mate? I’m getting a sweetness at the end of the sip that also reminds me of Honeybee.

I’m not sure that this is a tea for me. I’m pretty new to mates, and have only tried a couple, so I’m not sure if I like them yet. Or perhaps I like the roasted mates (since I quite enjoyed 52teas Malted ChocoMate). Either way, I think I need to try this one with a shorter infusion to see if I can taste the pistachio and reduce a bit of this medicinal taste. So no rating yet.

Sipdown! Although I cheated and sent the last of this to Boxermama so am only drinking a half cup.

I didn’t like this the first time I tried it, and sadly, I still don’t. Green mate, blech. And I’m not keen on the citrus here, even though I adore actual citrus fruit, and limes in particular.

Yeah, sadly, I really do not like this one. Glad the rest went to a willing home.

This is a great Mate. It blends the toasty-nuttiness of pistachios seamlessly with the tangy citrus flavor of lime so well. Not one flavor dominates, but it masks that musky herbal flavor that Mate has, which I find slightly strange.

Tea #19 from the ‘Here’s Hoping’ teabox.

Ooh, this is a good one. This was my first time trying mate, and I loved it. It also gave me the chance to realize that I like green rooibos but not red. The mate and green rooibos blended together give an earthy flavor that I really enjoy. On top of that base flavor is a bright, citrusy lime note that makes me oh so happy. Really, whoever blended this did an incredible job. I am a fan. I did not taste the pistachio, but that didn’t bother me since what I did taste was so good.

After I finished my first cup I went back and resteeped the leaves. I learned two things 1) this blend resteeps very well, and 2) my caffeine tolerance is quickly reached when drinking mate. My face started to feel all tingly which I did not take as a good sign. I’ll have to remember that in the future.

Thank you Fusion for this very lovely mate. Too tired yet to review or rate but I am very much enjoying this morning cup! Will make more notes soon.

Trying a re-steep from earlier today. I wanted so much to log more on this – write a real review – etc but I have felt cruddy all day – just don’t have the energy. Sorry. I don’t even know if Mates can be re-steeped. Need to look that up.

So this is pretty good. I mean I don’t think it is exactly MY cup of tea but there is nothing bad about it. The pistachio and lime both come out well one not over shadowing the other. The flavors seem natural. Im not all that experienced with Mate yet – just sort of feeling my way around it but I am not picking up anything disgusting about mate here. I will say it is helping me fight my exhaustion! You know the kind of tired where your eyes feel like they are on fire? Yeah that kind of tired, this is helping a bit. I made this iced today. Well I made it hot then stuck it in the fridge. Its good iced.
I don’t think I would re-order this but want to not that is only because at this point for me to order ANY more tea it has to just knock my socks off and this is good but not THAT good – in MY opinion but hey if you are looking for nutty and fruity this is your tea!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…I really think that Fusion Tea Room has the BEST flavored Yerba Mates! This one pads my side of the debate!

When I first opened the package the aroma was first and foremost Pistachio and then lime. Once infused it was more lime then Pistachio! Regardless – this is highly aromatic and tasting! The taste is a lovely lime partnered with Pistachio! It’s RIGHT ON!!!! I also appreciate the Yerba Mate being paired with not only regular rooibos but green rooibos! GENIUS! I really like this one! YUM!!!!!!

Awkward Soul

Oh how I missed drinking mate! I’ve been chugging through my The Persimmon Tree stuff that I haven’t been drinking mate. This is the last Fusion tea sample that I haven’t tried yet.

I ordered this tea because pistachio tea just sounds crazy! I do like pistachios and spumoni ice cream. Is there a spumoni tea? /checks steepster. No? /checks google. No. OMG SOMEONE GET ON THAT!

DRY: Very weird smell. Weird as in it took me awhile to figure out what I was smelling. Lime and lemongrass. All other smells I have no idea.
As I was scooping out my tea, I got a huge 1" long by 0.5" wide lime slice. I removed it and put it back in the bag, I figured I’ll save that huge lime for another steeping.

STEEPED: Mysterious roasted or nutty smell mixed with other smells I can’t ID.

TASTE: An unusual strong, mellow and smooth nutty taste with a background of lime and lemongrass. Green mate comes through strong. Crisp lime aftertaste. No tart or bitterness. There is supposed to be coconut in this tea but I do not notice it.

WHO’D LIKE THIS TEA: Adventurous tea drinkers and green mate lovers.

COMMENTS: WHOA, this tea is WEIRD! I’ve never drank anything like this and it’s so wild and I can’t figure out whats going on!

Um, yeah. I’m not able to number rate this tea at this time because I just can’t tell you if I like it or not or compare it to other things I’ve drank. Yeah, I’ve drank green mate plenty of times, but this adds a weird addition with mystery nut taste (that I can’t ID as pistachio. Unless this is what pistachio is supposed to taste like steeped?). The lime is quite good in this, not tart or bitter like I said earlier.

Back to the spumoni tea.. SOMEONE BLEND THIS! Chocolate pieces, pistachio, vanilla bean. I dunno what kinda tea to stuff in it, stuff something in it, but make it taste spumoni. Of course, slide me some of this tea for free.. ya know, for coming up with it.

This is really good. The lime is the dominate flavor and it tastes very authentic and juicy. The pistachio is more obvious in the aroma of the dry leaf, but I do like the nutty tones it lends to this tisane. The chili hints give this a very intriguing flavor. Very nice, indeed!

I am enjoying this cup more than I remember enjoying my first cup. I liked it fine before, but this time, I am finding it quite exceptional. The lime is the strongest note but it never gets too tart, and I like the way the sweetness of the nuts and coconut come through. The combination of rooibos and yerba mate is smooth and mild tasting.

A really nice cuppa!

Thanks Raul for the sample.

Okay, this is my first venture into the world of Yerba Mates…so this could change my desire to try others…but then again, I should try others to make a full decision on yerba mates in general.

Having stated that…
I didn’t care for this tea. I love lime & pistachio. And I love green rooibos. But just didn’t care for them in this combination. I brewed a pot with the sample given to me & I followed the steeping directions. The tea smelled good in the bag. I got the lime. I didn’t get much of the pistachio. And during brewing it was a lime smell mostly…but it seemed to get more faint & not more strong as I would have expected.

I added a little Sugar in the Raw thinking it would help bring out the flavor. Nope. I even added a fresh slice of lime. Nope.

But I did get a funky aftertaste like I would had I used Splenda as a sweetener. Is that normal for yerba mates? I don’t know…

Overall, I’m glad I got to try this tea, but I wouldn’t buy it. Sorry. Not my cuppa tea.

This blend was the most intriguing of all of the blends. Mate with sliced pistachios and actual pieces of limes. I was mortified and intrigued all at once, I had to try this blend.
When I finally got a chance, I was on my fourth cup of blended Mate drinks for the night. I was overloaded with liquids and my senses were heightened, but I was not going to not review it….right?
I immediately am taken a back by the smell, I say to myself, “this smells awful, pistachio and lime, what was Fusion Room thinking?” I brew a stout batch, and dig in…GLORIOUS! The team work of the pistachio and the lime worked wonderfully. At first I thought was going to be a dud, turned out to be great. They worked well together, and the smell was mellowed out when brewed. The Mate was not incredibly potent, but with a crazy blend like this, I did not expect to. I could taste the Mate though which I could not believe.
Awesome Blend

This is my favorite of Fusion’s mates, and luckily so considering I had a good feeling and ordered up six ounces of it. I can rarely resist pistachio anything, and the idea of this tea just seemed so weird and exciting that I couldn’t resist!

Though I had hoped for a profusion of pistachio flavor, it’s unsurprisingly a bit buried in a sea of lime and green mate. Not necessarily a bad thing, but good to know. It’s not very tart (yay!), more like the lime flavor that remains in your mouth after the initial shock of tartness has worn away. The brew smells pretty strongly of pistachios, though, which is interesting because you get pistachio on the nose as you go to take the drink and then in comes the green mate when you taste it.

Overall a good melding of all the flavors, but more importantly it has that elusive quality that keeps me coming back, wanting another cup. It’s very unique, like nothing else in my cupboard, good for any time of day but especially nice if you want caffeine in the morning without getting knocked out by a roastier brew. Highly recommended!

Now this is a wicked blend! Pistachios! Almonds! Lime! Coconut! All on a base of both kinds of rooibos and yerba mate! Yum yum yum! The main flavor here is lime, but I think if I steeped it hotter and longer, the nuttier flavors would show. The lime is not too bitter or sour — it is perfect. The bases of rooibos and yerba mate for these flavors couldn’t be better either. This is one of my favorite ideas for a blend! I really think Fusion Tea Room puts extra thought and care into making these amazing blends. I can’t wait to try more!

The smell of this is so strong that I expected smacked around by the pistachio and lime of it all when I drank it, but the flavors are surprisingly very subtle.

Very good flavor. I am a nut for citrus, especially lime flavor and this certainly has that. This would be yummy chilled and drank in the summer. Refreshing.
