Thai Rooibos

Rooibos Tea by Harney & Sons

A spicy blend of caffeine-free herbs and spices, including Rooibos (of course) and cinnamon, ginger, coconut and lemongrass. Who says that herbals have to be calming?

Looks like I am the lone dissenter here so far with the reviews of this, but damn, I thought this was tasty. I love the way this smells: coconut, ginger and lemongrass totally wafting into my nose the minute I open up the tin. I can see this is very strong on the herbs, it appears to be about 1/2 herbs and 1/2 rooibos.

This was steeped via regular infuser mug method and provides quite a kick – definitely reminds me of a spicy chai mix. The cinnamon and ginger are both quite strong here, although not quite as potent as the hot cinnamon spice this is for sure cinnamon-y. The lemongrass is very mild in the background but you can tell it is there. It is true that the coconut gets totally overshadowed though…

This seems like it would be a very healthy digestif or after dinner drink. Definitely recommended if you like very spicy potent tea…. yum

Had a cup of it this afternoon. I enjoy this as an alternative to a Rooibos Chai, good with soymilk but not for the spice adverse (see previous notes). I already have a back-up tin so I must like this. :D

Also, this will be my 1,000 tasting note right along with Ashmanra! Steepster addicts unite!

I went to see Anna Karenina tonight and liked it. It got some pretty bad reviews, but I was in it for the costumes, jewelry and the set design all of which were amazing. I thought they made Vronsky look like a laughable dandy and I was more drawn to Levin. Makes me want to go back and re-read the book someday (it’s been 20 years).

When I got home I wanted some Russian Caravan tea but decided to have this instead. It’s still exotic and spicy, just a different part of the world, right? Ginger and cinnamon with lemongrass. I do like this! A very warming brew which will send me off to sleep with good dreams. :)

My second cup of this today – I do not think this tin will last for very long. See previous notes. ;-)

Meh. I really wanted this to taste like the Thai tea I got from Atticus Tea in Park City, but it does not. It is one dimensional and all I can taste is watery cinnamon. Don’t like this one.

I bought this because I fell in love with the Bangkok Green Tea that H&S has and I’ve been looking for a good rooibos. Unfortunately it doesn’t quite live up to my expectations. When I first opened the tin I was immediately blasted by the scent of cinnamon. I like cinnamon but I know that it can quickly overtake anything else it is paired with. That is more or less the case with this. I can taste the red rooibos, cinnamon, a decent kick of the ginger but barely even a hint of the coconut. The cinnamon definitely takes the show in this one and I tried adding some peppermint to help cool down the cinnamon, and it did help a little. As much as I want to love this I do not think I will be buying more when I run out, there are better flavored rooibos out there.
