Passion Fruit

Black Fruit Blend by Harney & Sons

America’s favorite tropical flavor. Give this “juicy” tea a try and you will know why it is so popular.

This is a sample I got from Harney and Sons and thought I’d try it out this morning. I noticed the leaves have a musky-melon kind of smell, is that a characteristic of a passionfruit?

I steeped this for around 4 or 5 minutes and I admit I did put soymilk in it. :) The black tea base is nice here and the tea is lightly fruity, tropical, still kind of musky, mostly sweet but a tiny bit tart. It’s enjoyable enough but I don’t think I would need to keep any on hand but if someone offered me a cup, I would not turn it down. I think I might be more of a black currant or mango kinda gal. This would be really nice as an iced tea, however.

After receiving a passion fruit tea from Quiltguppy a while back, I wanted to see if I would also enjoy the one by Harney and Sons. When you open the tin the aroma is quite strong, but the tea itself is just right in my opinion. I am drinking it hot and sans additions right now but I am eager
to try it iced and lightly sweetened as well. The tea base is smooth and the passion fruit is nice and juicy!

I have been craving some iced tea, lightly sweetened. This one is very good, but honestly I think the one from thePuritea is better. That is really splitting hairs, though, because I have no complaints against this one. As always, I like my iced flavored tea best on the second or third day after making it. It really seems to mellow out and get smoother, and the flavors lose any artificial edginess and become more natural. I think this is one that hubby will enjoy well enough.

After a disastrous morning working on a stained glass project, I decided to have more fun by doing the ironing! Eek. And I wanted some tea to make me feel a little better about having to do one of my less favorite chores.

Enter Passion Fruit! I am drinking it hot and unsweetened, and it is doing the job I meant for it to do! The base is smooth and the fruit adds a nice juicy flavor to it. Next time, it will be iced, as I am getting way too hot!

I love this one iced! This is the main reason I wanted to try this tea…since I can’t get any more of Frank’s Mango Black iced tea. I added a wee bit of sweetener. This was steeped the normal way, not cold brewed, as I wasnt sure if the real tea flavor would come through in this one if I cold steeped it. It is nice and fruity. I have ordered the decaf iced tea version to see if it is much different, and also so I can have it at night if I wish.

Our second tea party tea today! I bought this to drink it iced, but I am really enjoying it hot. Smooth and delicious, nice tea flavor in the base doesn’t get hidden by the passion fruit.

And now for something completely different. This tea has been on my list to try for a while, as I love passion fruit, but I hadn’t ever gotten around to it for some reason. Now thanks to SimplyJenW, I have a sample! I really want to try this one cold steeped, but I wanted to try it hot first, so fortunately I’m finally getting around to it.

The dry leaf smells very passion fruity, in a very nice way. Maybe it’s because it’s not a common flavor for candy, but I feel like passion fruit flavor always seems more natural than some fruit flavors out there. Steeped, it retains that very juicy, fruity aroma, but it’s joined by Harney’s fruit-flavored tea base. It’s gotta be the same for all of them, right? It definitely seems like it. Anyway, the combination adds an interesting third dimension to the scent, but I can’t quite figure out what it reminds me of just now.

I’m surprised that I’m not getting a ton of passion fruit flavor out of this one. It’s definitely tart, but I don’t get a lot of that sweeter side of the passion fruit flavor (and here I’m not talking about acutal sweetness from the cup, but the not-actually-sweet flavor of sweet fruit, if that makes any sense). Even the black tea base isn’t what I was expecting; compared to the Lychee from Harney I had the other day, this base doesn’t seem to meld as well with the fruit. The cup as a whole is slightly astringent, oddly. So unexpected! Harney has some of my favorite teas, but then I’ll try one that seems like it should be perfect for me and it falls flat to my tastes (like all their Earl Greys!). C’est la vie. At this point my favorite Passion Fruit Black is thepuritea’s.

Somewhat disappointing tea day! I just haven’t had anything I was really into today, and the streak continues with this, which I cold brewed last night. I continue to be boggled at how tart this tea is. I actually found it to be undrinkably tart as a cold brew, and unfortunately I didn’t have any sweeteners that were easily soluble in cold water. I’m sure that it would be fine sweetened, but again, not the tea for me!

a bit sweet at first then a tiny bit tart (I didn’t add anything to it.) I don’t love passion fruit, but I like that this did not taste fake or overpowering, and that there was no hibiscus to be seen!

My afternoon cup. I was in the mood for something sweet and fruity. This one fit the bill. The fruit taste is somewhere between peach and orange with a little mango thrown in. (I have to admit, I have not ever tasted a real passionfruit.) Since I love all of those fruits blended with black tea, this is a great choice for me. Yum!

I am pretty sure it would hold up well for a second steep.

Iced tea of the day…….

I probably have enough left for one more pitcher. This one comes out crisp, slightly brisk, and with overtones of a tangy sweet fruit. It is excellent iced, but I like the Lychee better!

Usual iced method. No additions but ice!

Backlog from yesterday…..

I made this iced in my large teapot, and then decided to do a resteep in my jumbo mug for hot tea. It actually worked very well. I really like this tea for when I am wanting a fruity tea along the peach/mango/orange range of flavors. And it is very good iced, but requires just a bit of sweetening for my palate.

45 oz teapot, 6 tsp (Note to self: try 5 next time), 4 minutes with freshly bolied water and allowed to cool to room temp, and then refrigerated. Reteep was 5 minutes…shorter than normal due to the greater number of leaves in the infuser.

Backlog from yesterday…..

I fixed a to go mug of this to take to my son’s last baseball game of the season. Good tea, slightly sweet, and hot. It was a cold day. I think the high only got to about 65. Unfortunately, we lost the game 0-10. It was that kind of year with only one win. The good news, I think my son still had a good time and wants to play again next year. It is good to know his love of the sport does not depend on winning. He just loves the game.

While I’m not sure I got so much Passionfruit from this, it was a really nice sweet fruity tea. Similar to what I had hoped Harney’s Apricot would be. I’m sad that I only had the one sample as I’m sure this would be absolutely amazing iced.

A good black tea when in the mood for one with a fruity nose. Nice body and a natural sweetness, too.

This tea is too sweet for my taste buds, and I am usually a huge fan of flavored black teas. If I have to drink this, I prefer it as iced tea.

I tend to drink a lot of black tea, and when I was craving something with a fruity flavor, this tea was perfectly flavored while still maintaining the boldness of a rich black tea. The flavor really came alive when I added a little honey.
