Yellow and Blue

Herbal Tea by Harney & Sons

Caffeine Free Chamomile and Lavender Yellow & Blue is an artful blend of chamomile, lavender, and cornflowers. Every breath is fragrant and fresh. The lavender infusion lends a floral, slightly sweet, and elegant aroma at once soothing and pairs beautifully with calming chamomile and sweet, spicy cornflowers. The yellow, lavender, and blue petals are indisputably colorful. The tea sings of spring with scent and taste like freshly picked posies from a flower field.

Chamomile and lavender.

And that’s about all I can say about it.

At this point, I’m just trying to finish off this tin. Definitely won’t be purchasing again. It could be good for some, but I’m just not loving it the way it should be loved.

Last bag!! Ended up combining this bag with my last bag of Tazo’s Calm to brew two cups in my Breville. I wish I had figured this out sooner. By combining the two, I get a cup that’s a smooth chamomile with just a hint of lavender. So very much better than the Yellow & Blue alone, which was kind of overpoweringly lavender. I could really enjoy this tea made like this. Like this, I’d probably up the rating to 70-75. Yes, that much improvement!

Having a small pot of this tonight. It’s by far not my favorite chamomile blend, so the thought of not being able to taste it doesn’t sadden me. I basically just want something warm and herbal that will hopefully help me sleep tonight (last night was an utter sleep fail). Luckily, this week is fall break, and I’m off Wednesday-Sunday. If nothing else, I’m hoping to recoup then.

Yeah, I know I just wrote about something called “Green White.” It’s purely coincidence. I’m really not going for a color duo theme here.

It is as pretty as it’s picture, but of course, it has cornflowers. Big fan of cornflowers here. It smells mostly of chamomile in the sample packet, with a lavender background. The chamomile has a sweetness to its fragrance. I don’t always find that sweetness in chamomile, but I’m always glad when I do. It usually signals that the chamomile will have a fresher taste, rather than tending toward a bitter or pungent, or that sort of stale, dried paper/hay-flavored-with-chamomile thing.

It makes a light yellow, clear liquor. I was wondering whether the lavender would affect the color. Apparently chamomile trumps lavender. There’s no purple water here, or even grey water. Or what you might think would be the obvious result of a purple/yellow combo, something tending toward greenish. The aroma is a really nice mix, about 50-50 chamomile/lavender.

That pretty much describes the taste as well, and the effect is really interesting. At first I get primarily chamomile. Then that tapers off and I get lavender at the finish. The lavender’s volatile oils seem to contribute a freshness that keeps the chamomile from tasting weedy. Now, the note from H&S says that cornflowers are sweet and spicy. I have never noticed a flavor from them, I have mostly figured they are there to look pretty in the teas and tisanes I’ve tasted. And I’m not sure I can identify a flavor contributed by them now. Pretty much what I taste is chamomile and lavender, with the chamomile toning the lavender down and making it something more appealing than I experienced with the French Super-Blue, and the lavender, as mentioned, freshening and boosting the flavor of the chamomile out of tasting, as it sometimes can, like what I’d imagine a mouthful of decorative dried flowers to taste like.

If I buy a chamomile herbal, this would be a strong contender. I like chamomile, but it’s a very sometime thing with me. I really have to be in the mood for it, and that mood strikes only infrequently. I don’t expect to rush this into my next order, but it’s worth a bookmark should I have a chamomile urge.

I had a really lovely Chamomile & Lavender blend the other day, however it’s been discontinued so was hoping this would be similar ..

Unfortunately the Chamomile was so dominant that I wouldn’t have known anything else was in there had I not seen what was in the bag prior :(

A dynamic duo! This is quickly becoming my go-to for relaxing before bedtime. Colorful, alluring perfume with significant flavor (definitely more than I expected from the very light color). One of my floral-y favorites.

Blegh – I’m not against lavender in teas/tisanes, but this tastes stale or otherwise “off” somehow. I think I’d prefer straight chamomile, sadly.

One of my favorites! Great for a stressful day. Smells divine and tastes oh-so-good! I just leave the bag in and let it mellow.

A splendid chamomile tea, pleases even my husband who isn’t even all that fond of chamomile, and myself with a strong aversion to lavender! The tastes blend well. A perfect sicktime or sleepytime tea, great for a relaxing rainy or snowy day. Perfect when you need it.

A very soothing, pleasant tea. I plan to purchase some once I’ve run out of my current supply of chamomile, as I like this better.

This is my regular, before bedtime tea. The chamomile is exquisite and the lavender is of high quality and vibrant purple color. I suspect that the addition of cornflower to this blend is what really provides the magic — this is by far, my favorite tea on earth.
