Lychee

This is a traditional flavored black tea from China. Brigitte loves its fruity flavor. If you want, it can also be served iced.

Thank you SimplyJenW for this tea!!!!

This is delicious. If you put a blindfold on me, I would tell you that this is a medium-ly scented rose tea! I would probably even be pretty insistent about it. I had no idea lychee tea tasted like this. Wonderful sans additions, but I can see how a little sugar might be nice with this – especially if you have it iced.

Oh Mr. Harney(s), you offer yet another completely enjoyable tea to put on my shopping list! I could see this one being a haven for hectic days.

Thanks again Jen! I love it!!!!

Oooooooh Lychee! You are sweet, fruity, and rosy. You blend so well with this medium bodied Chinese tea base. I love you and you make me smile! (I think lychee must have what jasmine has — a substance that makes me happy!)

I didn’t have quite enough for another cup, so I mixed this with some Earl Grey de la creme. Mmmmmmmm. Fruityrosycreamy! Very refreshing on a day when we arrived to the office to find our air conditioning was off because of a power failure!

Thanks again SimplyJenW for this tea. A Lychee tea is now on my radar for sure. Maybe for next spring since I have quite a few light fruity and/or flowery delights in my cupboard at present!

The last of my teas for tasting from my trip through Millerton and tea of the morning.

As far as the lychee teas I have had in my day, this one is the best. It is the perfect balance of flavor, scent, and the tea base. It is very similar to rose tea, but has more of a citrusy floral note than just a floral one. Very pleasant, and I know I will be ordering more at some point, but right now my Harney’s wishlist is kind of long….

I have had one that was lighter scented and perfect for iced (from Upton..iced teas for me are usually pretty basic) and one that was overly scented, even too much for iced tea (this one was from The Tea Table and the sample which I liked did not match up with the tea I ordered).

Steeped by the usual parameters.

Tea of the morning…..

I seem to be going through all of my floral, citrus, and Earl Grey varieties these days. I guess that is what I like in the summer. This one is always reliable hot or cold. It is definitely my favorite iced tea, but hot it is wonderful, too. Notes of citrus and rose perfectly together with a good solid tea base. It is definitely in my top teas to always have on hand.

Usual teapot method.

Iced tea of the day……

This has got to be my favorite iced tea. It is tea with a hint if citrusy rose. I do love it hot, too, but it is super awesome iced. So refreshing. I would make this as a cold steep, but I am much more impatient than that, and I now have an ice maker in my fridge! It is just too easy to brew it up. Iced tea in less than 7 minutes……

Usual pitcher method (soon to be added to my profile!):
5 or 6 Perfect Spoons of tea (this means about 7-9 actual tsp), freshly boiled water, brewed essentially double-strong in my 24 oz teapot for 4 minutes. Fill my Fiestaware Disc pitcher (about 60 oz.) halfway with ice. Add brewed double-strong tea to the pitcher. Stir it a little and enjoy. No additions.

Tea of the afternoon….

I finally ordered a bunch of this….yes, a whole pound. It is the perfect light afternoon tea, and makes a stellar iced tea. I am so happy to have this as a staple in my cupboard! There is a balance of floral and citrus. I love that it is a traditional flavor of tea.

Steeped the usual way.

Tea of the late afternoon……

Mmmmm. Harney Lychee tea. This one just gets better all the time.

Full pot…steeped the usual way.

Tea of the morning….

I was looking for something a little lighter today. This is the one I chose. It is such a lovely combo of citrus and rose flavors. And it is a good thing I enjoy it. I have a pound of it!

Steeped the usual way….

I think I am up for trying something new today!…..

Tea of the early morning……

I am feeling so much better. I still have a cold, but it is so much more manageable. I am not sleeping well, so that is kind of rough, especially since I am not in my 20’s any longer! This was the last road test of this tea before buying a pound. I did decide that since I love this one hot and iced, it would become my tea to fit the light fruity tea profile. I like that it is citrusy and floral at the same time. I did oversteep a little this morning, so there is a slight astringency at the end, but really, it is still totally drinkable!

24 oz teapot, 4 1/2 tsp tea, freshly boiled water, probably close to 9 or 10 minutes (oops!). Lightly sweetened.

Another sample from SimplyJenW! So glad I get to try this; I love lychee fruit, but I haven’t had a lychee black tea before! My first thought when I smelled the dried leaf was “Mmm, lychee fruit!” But the scent wasn’t overpowering. And even though I distinctly identified it as lychee, I don’t think I ever noticed how much lychees smell like rose. I guess that’s probably why I like them so much.

The lychee aroma stayed niced and strong in the brewed tea, backed with a nice, rounded black tea base. And the tea definitely delivers in the flavor: a good, robust lychee flavor (which comes with a healthy dose of rosey-ness), with a pleasant, smooth black tea base that compliments the lychee well but is still a major player in it’s own right. Mm, this is definitely one I’ll have to keep around!

I find myself unexpectedly at home this afternoon, because there was an armed robbery on campus this morning, so they made everyone on campus go home. One of the benefits is that I got to open my package from Harney & Sons that was delivered this morning! It is kind of amazing to get that much tea in one package, because I haven’t made that large of an order in a long time. I am so happy to finally restock some of my favorites. So, what to drink first? You might have thought that with my recent rose fixation I would have gone for Rose Scented first, but I decided to go Lychee. It has natural rosy notes anyway, plus a bit of fruit. Apparently I last had this tea in October of 2011, so it’s been a while coming!

Mm, delish! Lovely lychee and a solid and interesting chinese black tea base. Glad I restocked on this one for sure. Now, with a 4oz tin, I will have enough for a long time (at the rate at which I drink my teas!)

I was going to go with a post-lunch green oolong—one of my untried ones from thepuriTea perhaps—but I felt like the lingering flavor in my mouth and scent on my fingers of the blood orange I had with lunch might skew my tasting. I wanted to go for something a bit more robust and fruity, so as I was going through my samples this one jumped out at me. Also I was making a “standard panel” tea board on Pinterest so that I can remember what teas I really want to always have in my cupboard and I wanted to try this one again, though I’m pretty sure this is a keeper anyway. I realize I could probably just look at my tea ratings list and go for the highest-rated teas, and it’s not like I’m going to easily forget my favorite teas, but I really wanted a separate list and there’s not really something that would serve that function here on Steepster.

Anyway, I love lychees and I love this tea. I want to go buy a big bag of lychees, and maybe I’ll stop at the asian grocery this weekend and do it. The base of this tea is just a perfect compliment as well. Yum.

I just had to try this one cold-steeped right away. Delish! This one will have to be on my list to pick up next time I’m in Soho. Oh I so love lychees, and now I want some lychee candy. I guess it’s time to make a trip to the asian grocery store!

So in full disclosure, I have never actually tasted real lychee fruit, mostly because I have do idea how you eat one. Do you peel it, are their seeds, do you eat the seeds – it stresses me out :) But I do like lychee flavoured things.
The dry tea smells of lychee flavour on top of a strong black tea base, but it is very perfumey.
The brewed tea smells of the same lychee perfume. The tea tastes like a medium boldness black tea base. There is a lychee fruit taste to it, slightly perfumey, but not bad. The perfume taste almost reminds me of rose petals. Overall a good tea, but I would have preferred a more fruity flavour. I may try to add some sweetener next time. It is slightly sweet on its own, but maybe some sugar would bring out more of the fruitiness.

Made this one as a cold brew. Brewed for about 12 hours. I have cold brewed a lychee blend before and I didn’t like it too much. But Harney and Sons recommended this one iced so I thought I should try it. It turned out delicious. There is a very light lychee flavour, not overpowering and not perfumey. There is a slight sweetness to the tea. Very good.

I am pretty sure this sample came from SimplyJenW. If I am right, many thanks! Several people are now using QuiltGuppy’s type of packaging so it is hard to keep track!

I did not expect to like this tea. I did not expect my guest at tea today to like it. When my eldest daughter came home from Hong Kong she wanted us to try Lychee fruit and in addition to looking like eyeballs I thought it tasted like strong bathroom cleaner. Maybe we had bad ones…

This tea….not so! In fact, I really felt like I was drinking Harney’s Rose Scented Tea, easy on the rose and with a touch of lemon. It was truly delightful and light and very, very smooth. Surely this is a Ceylon base? This is probably going on a future shopping list.
This was my guest’s favorite tea today, and I enjoyed it very much!

Thank you again to JacquelineM for sharing and introducing me to this fantastic tea I had never tasted lychee and now I know what I have been missing as it is absolutely divine. I agree with Jacqueline in that if I did not know it was lychee I might think there was a hint of Roses. This tea is so very smooth and velvety in the mouth. I tried mine slightly sweetened and it is perfection! Mmmmm , so yummy!i

This is a nice, simple Chinese black tea with just enough added flavor to complement rather than overwhelm the tea’s natural taste.

Had this tea this morning. It’s been a while. It was a nice light flavor to wake up with. I think I am going to try to make this an iced tea. I feel like that would make it even more refreshing.
