I should be asleep but I napped off and on all day because of the muscle relaxant I took. Now I want to go to bed but I just feel too restless. I have two bags left of this one that my friend sent, and they are awfully old but I decided to go ahead and steep one and see if it helps.

It has been a very long time since I had Celestial Seasonings Chamomile, but if I remember it correctly this one is a bit better. There is still a minty taste, and it is surprisingly sweet and honeyed when I sip it. I haven’t had much chamomile of any kind but I am enjoying this.

Missy

You are having a rough week there. I hope you get some rest and feel better soon.

Azzrian

Get better soon!

ashmanra

Thanks! I will be babying my back for about a week, and then getting busy building it back up. I have been shirking my physical therapy exercises and I knew in the back of my mind I should have been doing it…

Another free sample from Harney, in sachet form. It’s not bad, but nothing like the vibrant fresh apple-y wonderful loose chamomile I’ve purchased elsewhere. It tastes more like the meh chamomile I was used to before my revelatory super fresh chamomile experience…

This is so good! I noticed right away there is a strong, almost wild, smell of chamomile. It’s so much stronger than other chamomiles I’ve tried. I’m glad I got this as a sample in my order. It tastes strong, but good! It is possible to oversteep it, though. This got a little bitter on me.

The hunt for the perfect chamomile continues.

These bags are from the stash my coworkers collected whilst we were at conference…the hotel rooms had tea as well as coffee, and they gathered me a baggie full. So who knows how old they are, but I’m brewing them up anyway.

I must say, for being just straight, plain, no-frills chamomile, this isn’t too bad. I’m sure that fresher bags would make a difference, but this is very light and delicate and smooth. It’s definitely chamomile, but it’s not flowery. I could see this ending up as a regular part of my stash.

I had teased my friend for getting all excited that she ordered a chamomile tea from Harney and Sons, because to me, chamomile is just a generic herbal tea that’s usually stuffed in bags and old people drink it. No offense everyone, it just never occurred to me to order it loose, what a waste of money that could be put toward Golden Monkey or something! Seriously!

She was raving about chamomile and I told her I’m not sure if I have ever even tried it. Probably just in tea bag form long before I cared about tea. So she gave me a big sample to try.

I’ve been putting it off, honestly, because though I’ve actually said before that I need some herbals for nighttime, I was less than enthused about the idea of chamomile. “Old lady tea”.

Anyway, I sucked it up and made some at 11pm, wanted tea without worrying about caffeine.

Sooooo it’s not terrible, I will give her that. I definitely recall trying chamomile before because the taste is unmistakable. Surprisingly sweet, like honey. Though it has the smell of feet or something. Like, feet that have been in wool socks and work boots all day. Not freshly washed feet that have been treated with a peppermint lotion.

But it didn’t taste like feet, so that’s good. Because I already drank a tea earlier tonight that had a delightful vomity note to it.

I will drink the rest of what she gave me, and I would consider stocking a cheap bagged chamomile …I will tell you why -

Because I’m sitting here feeling totally relaxed and mellow and sleepy. It’s pretty sweet.

I’m probably going to go give the baby her nighttime feeding and hit the sack.

Ok chamomile, you’ve won this round……

Nighty night!

mj

Try Butiki’s Lavender Chamomile! It smells like wonderful lavender- not feet. It’s delicious and I’m obsessed with it

+1 for the Lavender Chamomile

TheTeaFairy

Ah! So happy to find someone else who can identify feet notes in tea, lol!

Marzipan

It is pedestrian but Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime Vanilla is great to have around for this, as is the “Extra” one.

whatshesaid

yes, feet notes for sure! haha

thanks for the suggestions everyone!

Courtney

I am with you on your thoughts on chamomile. I have decided it’s not for me, but perhaps I should give it another go.

whatshesaid

It wasn’t too awful and the nice relaxing effect might have been worth it :)

Sipped this one last night before bed while watching 19 Kids and Counting… I just can’t help myself guys. I really find that show strangely addicting.

My tin of this doesn’t actually say Egyptian Chamomile, just Chamomile, but from all indications of browsing back through their website and the description here, this is the same thing I have.

So anyways! The dry flowers have a very strong chamomile scent, and I have grown to like that scent even though originally I hated the way chamomile smelled. This is definitely a no frills chamomile and perfect for relaxing at night.

Oh I get it, I was bored last week and having back issues, I watched an entire season of Secret Princes on Netflix. It’s really bad reality TV.

lolainred

Oh man… I definitely watched that one too… both seasons o.O

Marzipan

I haven’t found the second season yet but I would totally watch it!

I’ve never had chamomile tea, so I thought I’d give this a shot. It was … okay? I sweetened it a bit, and it was better. I was too afraid to alter it too much, but I might be more daring next time I try it.

I love a strong cup of chamomile flowers brewed in a mug, with a few splashes of milk in it. Sipping it while reading a good book before bed helps me relax and I do feel noticeably sleepy after 3/4 of the brew is gone.
