Herbal Hot Cinnamon Spice

Herbal Rooibos Blend by Harney & Sons

Another new version of our most popular tea, this version is caffeine free. The three types of cinnamon are added to African Rooibos, making a delicious herbal drink. Herbal Hot Cinnamon is a good choice for those who want give up caffeine, but not strong flavors!

Tea of the evening…..

I have done it…..I found a rooibos I really like. I think part of it has to do with the fact that the rooibos plays such a small role in this brew. It is all cinnamon, all the time. It tastes much like its caffeined black tea counterpart (which I do prefer), but it is nice to have a non-caffeine alternative. Yep…red hots in a cup. This flavor is so wonderful in cool weather!

24 oz teapot, 4 1/2 actual tsp rooibos blend, freshly boiled water, 7 minutes. Very lightly sweetened.

Hot cuppa the evening….

It has been a long day. Ever have one of those days where the events of the morning seemed to happen yesterday? I have not had one in a while, so I guess it was my turn. I really wanted some tea, but I know I will regret it later when it finally comes time to go to sleep tonight. This is totally working. It is filling my need of something sweet/spicy and comforting.

I am still confused how we had temps of 85 and I was melting two days ago, and today there has been snow. Please, can we have some Spring weather. I don’t like the summer to winter thing we have going right now.

Usual teapot method…heaping scoops and 7 minutes.

First tea of the evening…..

Are we seeing a trend? Lots of spices for me today. This one is so good. And I think I have eaten over a pound of clementines…..

Usual method. Sweetend with manuka honey.

Tea of the evening….

I am so glad I went against my dislike of rooibos and tried this one…. It is soooo good! I can see it becoming a regular staple of the evening…..

Steeped for 7 miuntes by the usual volume and temp.

I’m finally trying this tea thanks to SimplyJenW! I’ve been eying it for a long time now. I love cinnamon and caffeine free is always good since I like to have tea in the evening and tasty caffeine free teas are not that easy to come by.

The first time I made this, I used about the same amount of leaf as I normally would for a rooibos and it was STRONG! It was so sweet and cinnamon-y and spicy and slightly orangey. Tasty! I can see this working well in blends… I’ll need to think on it.

Tonight, I made it with half the leaf and it is much better! I can actually drink this normally because the flavor isn’t super intense. Still sweet and tasty and I think it’s actually making me a bit sleepy. :) Great evening tea!

I have two samples of this. I brought one to school and the other I left at home. The dried leaf smelled just like a red hot candy, but the rest of the tea fell a bit flat for me. I generally like my herbals brewed longer for a lower temperature and it really didn’t do it for me this time.

Since I have another sample of this, I’m going to try boiling water next time and see if that makes a difference.

This is the last of the tea samples that the lovely Ashley gave to me. The liquid is deeper this time since I used my press and there are no big particles in my cup. Lovely. Favorite part about my press so far.

It is a goregous red-brown. My first cup of this using my tea ball sure didn’t look this way. I’m taking that as a good sign. This tea smells like liquid red hots. I could spend all day just smelling this tea and I would be happy. It tastes like them too, but something is off about it. On the forefront of the sip is the sweet and spicy cinnamon, but then there is a strange taste. It almost tastes chalky.

Something about this isn’t quite melding for me. I think it might be the rooibos that I am tasting, but I’m not sure. I think I might like this better as their black tea blend. It isn’t bad, so the rating is going up. I wouldn’t reach for this on my own. I think the flavor needs to be with a stronger base to get it to meld together for me.

OMG. I think I freaking love this. This sample was the last one I tried. I was a bit skeptical that I wanted to drink red hot flavored tea. I opened the package tonight and it smelled amazing! And it tastes just as good as it smells. I don’t know how it tastes just like a red hot candy, but it does.

I did add too much sweetener to it and I’ll have to watch that next time. I only added a small amount of agave nectar, but apparently it only needs a smidge.

I think I love Harneys! Already planning another order as soon as I can afford it.

Yep, definitely going to order this soon.

Hot damn! I am a fiend for Harney & Son’s Hot Cinnamon Spice tea, but it has quite a caffeine kick so I need to avoid drinking too much (and I can’t drink it at all in the evenings). Imagine my surprise to discover that all that sweet, rich, red-hot goodness is available in herbal form! No-caffeine rooibos goodness, and racing heartbeat. Yippee!

Oh dear. While a taste of African Autumn cut down my wishlist for Harney’s, a taste of this just added to it. I love, love, love cinnamon, but I’m also very much in love with my Cinnamon Chai from DavidsTea, so I didn’t think I’d be tempted to order this one. I was wrong! So very, very wrong. It’s not better or worse than DT, it’s just different in a wonderfully yummy way. The cinnamon scent and taste are strong, which means I probably won’t be allowed to steep it while De is home (she hates the stuff). Kristin, I owe you big time for this sample…or maybe I should be mad at you for adding to my list…I haven’t decided yet! But this is definitely a tea to try if you like cinnamon! It tastes like a stick of Big Red gum, which makes me happy because I have fond memories of that gum.

Backlogging from yesterday. Used up the last of this to help me survive wandering Kensington with the inlaws. We stopped in the Blue Banana Market and were very pleased to discover a little tea section, complete with a few Harney & Sons teas! None of this, however, which made me very sad. It does wonders for my throat through this illness that will not die. We placed an order with H&S 11 days ago and have yet to hear anything from them, so I’m assuming it has not shipped yet, which is really, really disappointing. To the point that I think this might be our only order from them. This tea is amazing, but the cinnamon chai from DT is amazing too, and with much better customer service. International shipping takes forever as it is, there’s no reason to add another week to the process, especially when the only difference is the addition of a customs form.

Anyway, end rant, I love this tea, I’m just less than pleased with the company.

Had to have another cup. I just had to! When I was a kid, whenever we went on vacation, my Dad would always hunt down an old penny candy store and get fireballs, which were essentially cinnamon jaw breakers. He’d get a pound of them and eat them like they were going out of style. He always shared, and my younger brother and I would each get one and a paper towel. Whoever could keep it in their mouth the longest won…I never won. XD. This tea brings up that memory and I’m grateful for it because it was a memory I had forgotten.

It’s a cup full of red-hots! I had a ridiculous headache when I brewed this cup, and no ibuprofen seemed to make a dent in it. I feel like drinking a cup of this on Valentines’ Day would make me smile, and get a bit nostalgic for classroom V-day parties from childhood. That said, (Kristin, brace yourself)- I’m not sure I like it. On one hand, it reminds me a bit of Teavana’s Ayurvedic chai. On the other hand, it lacks the tempering lemongrass notes. I think it may be a bit too sweet, really. I’m having it as a dessert tea with a chocolate cupcake and I’m still going ‘argh the sweetness’. Am going to keep trying this until I like it as much as Kristin does :)

(In other news, the husband and I are watching a Deep Sea nature film and Johnny Depp narrated it, and it’s pretty weird.)

Harney’s original Hot Cinnamon Spice/Sunset was the first tea that I’d tried from their company. Was given some from my boyfriend’s coworker and she’d said that her Dad was completely addicted to it and that he tried to hook everyone he knew.
With one sip I became a convert. I’m a huge fan of cinnamon and drinks that taste like candy in a cup. This was heaven.
So later I discovered Herbal Hot Cinnamon, also a big fan of rooibos I decided to order a tin of this. I have a really fast metabolism and overactive heartbeat so I don’t like to over stimulate my system with too much caffeine. To my enjoyment this tea was almost identical to the original black tea version of Cinnamon Spice. Nice to know I’m also getting the added benefits of rooibos. I also am trying to cut down on sugar and you’d swear this tea had sugar in it! I wouldn’t say it’s just like a cup of red hots because I don’t think it’s that spicy; it’s not so hot that you can’t enjoy it. And I love the over abundance of orange peels throughout the tin. Slight artificial taste I can note but nothing too serious to keep me away. Love this stuff!

Love this tea so much. Sort of like red hots taste wise, but not burn your mouth spicy. Naturally very sweet. The rooibos goes so well with the flavors. But I too, like the black tea version. It’s nice this is naturally caffeine free, though.

And speaking of red hots. I’ve been missing my red hair for a while and can’t decide whether to go back. I always miss my red, especially being such a fire ball. haha. Fits my personality. And it works well with my changing blue/green eyes and pale skin tone well; when I worked at a coffee shop everyone thought I was a natural redhead. (Naturally I’m sort of a dirty blonde with reddish tones.)

Hum. What to do. Girls and their hair.

Oh I wish I was more logical. Damn right brain.

Edit. 5am
Ouch… woken up from bad heartburn. :/ No more super cinnamony tea for me before I sleep.

Having loved Arbor Tea’s Cinnamon Rooibos, I gave this blend a try. Oh my Dumbledore. It’s perfect. I would swear that they put sweetener in it but apparently they don’t. Incredibly strong cinnamon. Perfect. I only order a sample, now I’m off to buy a tin!

I ordered a 50 count sachet with my Harney order, remembering how much I enjoyed the Hot Cinnamon Spice sample I received last year. I read the reviews saying how similar the herbal version tasted.

I opened the bag and loved the cinnamon smell. There was so much cinnamon, it was all over the inside of the bag. I steeped it for 5 minutes as suggested on the packaging and sweetened it with honey. It was very good. I don’t recall the black tea version tasting this strongly of cinnamon, but I still like it. And being herbal it is a bit better for me. But this is definitely not a good tea for the upcoming summer season.
