Tarry Lapsang Souchong is a China Black Tea that is well known for its smoky odour and flavour; and yet is clean tasting. Special bamboo baskets are used to dry the leaves over pine tar to release the smoky aroma and flavour‘ achieving a perfect balance. Whilst not as strong as Formosa Lapsang Souchong, this tea has a wonderful depth of taste and aroma that goes well with savoury and spicy foods.

Según la leyenda, este té apareció durante la época de la dinastía Qing cuando las fuerzas armadas habían interrumpido la producción anual y el proceso de secado de las hojas. Con la alta demanda después de la interrupción, los fabricantes del té aceleraron su producción secando las hojas no solo al aire sino encima de un fuego de madera de pino.
