Although I’m pretty sure I’ve never had an Earl Grey before, I always figured I wouldn’t like it. I decided to be brave and try my sample of this anyway. It wasn’t terrible, but like I suspected, I’m not a fan. Better than I was expecting, but I won’t be purchasing. And because I’m pretty sure that it’s earl greys in general, and not just this earl grey I don’t like, I wont be rating.
Funny side note, I enjoy notes of bergamot in colognes and perfumes, just don’t like the taste apparently.

I decided that I would give this one a try this morning out of the samples sent from Just Organic Tea. Earl Grey hasn’t been my thing to date as citrus in tea used to be something I avoided. My first attempt with Lady Grey was a bit of a shocker. Since then, I have come to enjoy a few nice teas with citrus notes, usually orange, although I have braved one lemon thus far, and I’m finding I have a liking to them if they are done well.

This one smells sweetly of orange citrus notes. Steeped, the base is present but not overpowering with a bit of depth. The bergamot comes through mostly as an orange note to me, but I have to say I’m not well versed in bergamot. This cup is smooth and enjoyable with no tartness or bitterness. To my surprise, I think I like it .. :)

This is a sample from the sample pack that Just Organic sent out. Thank you!

This was a little different than a lot of the recent EG’s I have been tasting. It had a tad bit of a weaker base, although still there and well rounded, and it was strong on the bergamot. This was a tasty cup.

This is a very bergamot heavy earl grey, which is not my cup of tea. However, with a dash of milk…awesomeness happens. I find plain earl grey to taste a bit soapy on it’s own when it is this strong, but that just means a bit of creaminess is needed to help mellow that sharp flavor a little. The bergamot still shines through with the dash of milk so I can taste it, but no soapy aftertaste. Very good.

First off, I invited http://steepster.com/lyssakitteh to Steepster today, and she could use some friends if you can follow her!

Second, holy fritos I can’t believe how many samples Just Organic sent me. I had offered to sample/review two of their teas, and they sent TWELVE samples. What a nice surprise!

You know I like my Earl Greys, so this was the first one I pulled out of the pile. They included enough or a good sized cup (maybe a teaspoon and a half, which is perfect). I like it a lot. It’s heavy on bergamot, but that’s…my cuppa tea (had to get it in here somewhere). As another reviewer said, there’s nothing fancy in here like mallow flowers, just black tea and oil of bergamot. It’s really working for me on this nasty, rainy afternoon.

Really impressed with Just Organic so far!

Mmm, Earl Grey. One of my absolute favorites. As far as these teas go, this one smells great as it steeps. Pretty heavy on the bergamot oil, but not quite as heavy as what I’ve been drinking from Harney & Sons.

It brews up to a nice dark reddish brown and has a smooth black tea base. Nothing too harsh or bitter. The bergamot is lemony and pleasant. Not overpowering, but it does leave my mouth tingling a bit. Overall, this is a very satisfying Earl Grey. I admit it’s not a very stand-out version, but I like it.

Just Organic Tea’s Kickstarter is in it’s last 5 days! If you can spare a few bucks to help these kind folks out, please do. They’re still about $1300 short of their goal.(https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/justorganictea/just-organic-tea-the-very-best-tea-delivered)

This is a really nice EG!

It’s a no frills EG, but that’s definitely not a bad thing when it’s done well.

Spoiler: This is really well-done.

There’s the same strong black base I’ve come to know and really like — with no bitterness or astringency — that actually holds up to the bergamot in this cup. I didn’t really find the bergamot strong or overdone, but with no additional frills it really becomes the costar of the cup (paired with the tea itself of course). And it really is the perfect pairing for the maltiness in the base.

What a nice brisk cup.

Just a reminder that they are in the final week of their kickstarter, which can be found here:
