This is a tea that I’ve wanted to try for the longest time! Thank you to TeaEqualsBliss for sending me a sampling!

Yum! This is good. The chocolate and spice are in good balance – not too spicy, not even as spicy as I thought it would be, but, I like the level of spiciness here. It would be nice if there was more chocolate (there is never enough chocolate!) but it is fairly strong.

Ordinarily I wouldn’t invest in something indicated as “spicy,” but since it came in my sampler pack I decided to be bold and try it out.

I actually rather like this. The spice is a “cinnamon and cloves” kind of spicy, not an “Indian cuisine” kind of spicy. (Hey. I always expect the worst.) I don’t taste the chocolate too much, but it’s real subtle in the scent and aftertaste. And the leaves. The leaves are a bit sweeter-smelling than the tea itself.

It’s black tea with a little spicy kick. I approve. Another win from Kusmi!

I have the same misgivings as you when tea says ‘spicy’. Would you say it was very very cinnamon-y or just moderately so? Not too fond of very very cinnamon-y tea.

Angela

There wasn’t really a specific spice that stood out for me, so it wasn’t an overpowering cinnamon-y taste. Was a nice mix of things, like the smell of opening up the spice cabinet.

Angrboda

Interesting. I think I might try getting a sample tin sometime. I think I’ve seen the set it’s included in and decided not to get it because I was certain I’d hate this one.

Angela

heh it’s probably the same set I have. Good investment overall, I’d say :)

This is one of the four teas I picked up at Kusmi today. The dry leaf smells delicious – like chai with a hint of chocolate.

Brewed the smell and taste of black tea really come through with notes of cinnamon, pepper, and chocolate. I think a couple months ago I would not have been a fan but the more tea I drink (even though I predominantly drink flavored) the more appreciative I become of the tea flavor. I think my favorites will still be the flavorful teas, at least for now, but this tea is definitely a good choice when I want something simpler.

Just a side note – Kusmi Tea has a 75 g minimum. WHAT?!?! I was going to try a couple of other teas too but I didn’t think I needed so much of teas I have never tried before.

ETA: Cold this has more of a spice to this but it is still good.

Mike: “It’s nice.”
Ricky: “It’s a little light.”
Jack: “It’s okay. Not bad.”

Brewed in Huge Glass Teapot

Jason

Is there any of this left? Been wanting to try it and of course you brewed it while I wasn’t there.

Steepster Cupboard

Well, Jack just re-steeped the first pot and to me it tastes like dirty water.

Hm.

I got a teabag of this as a sample with the Kusmi order I received in the mail yesterday. I thought at first “Yay, chocolate!” but after brewing and adding in a packet of splenda and some half & half, it seems pretty watered down. The black tea didn’t have enough umph to make a good cup. It’s almost like perhaps I got an old teabag, or someone swapped it out for leaves from a grocery store teabag.

I expect way more quality out of Kusmi, so I am surprised. Definitely won’t order more.

Love this tea. Chocolate and I mean real chocolate tasting not some fake stuff and spice, but just the right amount. This is a tea that I got from the TTB and I have loved it ever since.

My second Kusmi Tea. It has a lovely, rich aroma of chocolate. The spices used in this tea are not specified on the Kusmi Tea website, but probably they are spices commonly used in masala chai recipe? Mmmm… so Indian! :9 Guess the tea will go well with a bit of milk! ;D

This is a pretty good tea! I don’t taste too much of the chocolate.. mostly the spice only. It’s pleasant without milk and I look forward to trying it with milk as well. While it’s not my favorite dessert tea, it does make a decent cup.

Not bad, but I think the combination of chocolate and chai spices isn’t really that good. It’s not good without milk and sweetener, but with them, it’s still not great. I’m not the biggest chocolate fan, which is probably a good idea to say, but actually, I didn’t find this tea strongly chocolatey. It was mostly spices and black tea.

Hubby is coming down with a mean cold, so I figured some chai-like spicy tea might halp me keep it away.
I have been given the afternoon Kusmi set at Christmas, which I probably never would have bought on my own. I usually do not really enjoy drinking spice-flavored tea. However I’ve got a small tin and those will be perfect to store nice teas at my desk in the office. So better try to drink it fast;)
The flavors when opening the tin are really nice and seem strong on chocolate, plus spices, but not curry-like flavors.
Once brewed, I was wondering how it would come out, as I had been a bit light in my serving. It was actually strong enough (and I managed to resteep it twice with no problem, which proves the leaves are rather good quality). The color is a bit dark but very clear.
The taste is slightly disappointing as I looked, searched and wandered around for the chocolate, but it was not very obvious and not as strong flavored as I expected; I was searching for a very dark chocolate, with a very high concentration in cocoa and could only come with the flavors of an industrial average-supermarket brand which would lower the cocoa content to optimize the price of the product. Not so appealing!
Then the spices: not so unpleasant as I was afraid of, with two popping up to mind: cinnamon first and then underlying it all and lasting so long after, clove. This last flavor is a bit overwhelming (and it can easily be so). After drinking it, I really felt the same taste on my lips I had after smoking kretek (Indonesian clove-flavored cigarettes) when I was much younger, without the cold ashtray feeling inside my mouth.
I will not buy it again, but should able to reasonably finish the tin, especially convincing myself that the clove inside the blend will help improve my gums…

I finished the small tin yesterday without having to force myself to pick this one up – unlike most of the others I got.
