From Lupicia

CARAMEL & RUM is an aromatic blend of rooibos and honeybush scented with bittersweet caramel and rum. Great served straight, but also delicious with added milk

Woo, my Lupicia Cyber Monday order finally arrived! I couldn’t have been more excited. In fact, I even took pictures… blush

Anyway, after putting all of the holiday teas in my cart, I need a couple more things to reach the $60 free shipping threshold, and this was one of those things. It’s been recommended to me by several people and I’ve been loving rooibos lately, so it seemed like a good fit (I also got Pineapple Barley!). Wow, the dry scent was so powerful when I opened the package, and very alcoholic. It smelled like Butter Rum Lifesavers with actual rum in them. I had the boyfriend smell it and he immediately wanted to know if I was currently making some. :P

Yum, this tea tastes like butterscotch, which is quite a feat for something that’s not sweetened! It literally reminds me of those butterscotch disc candies or Butter Rum Lifesavers. I can also taste the rooibos just a bit, but it just adds more dimension to an already amazing flavor. Delish, thanks so much everyone for the recommendations! :)

Yay! You like it!

Dinosara

I liked this one before I realized I couldn’t drink rooibos anymore.

Cameron B.

Why can’t you drink rooibos? :(

Dinosara

It gives me a weird scratchy feeling in the back of my throat… not very pleasant.

Cameron B.

Aw… I’ve heard people describe that before. I’m sorry. :(

Kittenna

Dinosara – I get that too, sometimes. It’s incredibly unpleasant. Doesn’t seem to happen with all of them, and I don’t know why.

Dinosara

Yeah, and I don’t like the flavor of rooibos enough to find ones that don’t do it, so I just avoid all rooibos. Not too much of a hardship for me. :)

The loose tea smells incredibly sweet, with some of my friends describing it as having “butterscotch”, “caramel”, and “nutty” aromas. Tastes less sweet than it smells, and is quite refreshing. Makes for an EXCELLENT iced/milk tea.

This smells insane!! Opening the bag my nose is assaulted with the scent of butterscotch heavily laden with rum! Its the perfect after dinner drink for me as its a rooibos tea so no caffeine and the flavor is sweet enough that this tea acts as my desert! Defiantly going on my repurchase list for when I’m in San Fransisco next!

Ya, I love this one!

I’m liking this tea better as it cools. When it was hot I could smell the rum part, but it wasn’t translating to the taste. I could taste a little caramel, but it wasn’t super strong. Now that it is cooler, I’m getting that butterscotch combo of the flavors playing off each other. It tastes a little stronger, but it’s still not amazing. Maybe with some sweetener it would taste better, but that is an experiment for another cup. It’s late and I’m not venturing back downstairs for sugar.

Sipdown. And also, Steepster ate my note again.

2 years from opening the packet and it’s still very caramel-y and rum-y. I normally hate rooibos but this was actually nice.

As I’m running low on non-caffeinated teas, I would repurchase if near a Lupicia. Still surprised I liked this at all.

Oh my goodness. This is DELICIOUS! Thank you TeaBrat for the sample!
Rum is a funny thing for me, I don’t often enjoy it as a drink (bad experience back in college!) but in food, I adore it. Candies, rum balls, certain types of icecream. I just love the richness of it, and how it somehow reaches a depth that I very rarely find in food. And this tea, well it certainly does all of that for me. I’m so excited that it actually has rum flavour!!! Bare, the rum kindof hovers pleasantly in the background, but with just half a teaspoon of sugar, oh mama, she’s a burstin with rum. Hot or cold, this one does the trick for me.
I’d been putting this one off because I often find that rooibos dessert teas don’t measure up… tasting generically fruity or just overall “sweet” instead of whatever their description indicates. Also, I haven’t been drinking much rooibos or honeybush lately, and since I find they lose flavour quickly, it isn’t a good idea to have much on hand at one time.
No matter. When I do eventually place a Lupicia order, this one will be included. No question about that!

So I’ve picked up knitting that mystery shawl from last October. I still don’t know what the finish product looks like, but I’m on the last row! I’ve just been blitzing through, drinking tea as I go. Tonights tea – Caramel & Rum, sample off the monthly Lupicia Newsletter some time ago.

This tea is not bad – smells totally like rum. Tastes like a buttery caramel mostly, with a rum finish, all flavorings covering up the red rooibos flavor (a plus in my book). Only downfall is the tea is a bit watery, typical of rooibos blends. Digging the buttery caramel flavor! Ah well, back to knitting, must finish shawl so I can start on socks!

This one is particularly delicious with a splash of milk. Just saying. :)

Hello.Kiki

Funny how some projects just take forever. I had a pair of legwarmers that were not too difficult but took me months and months to finish.

Love the depth of taste and smoothness of this rooibos – so comforting. Perfect way to end the day, or to take the edge off a difficult afternoon at work. I shared some with a coworker who was pretty dubious since he’s mainly a coffee drinker, and he came back and asked for some more the next day.

I got this from Lupicia monthly newsletter.

I was not a big fan of Rooibos because of its own scent but I started liking it a lot ever since I had Sweet Autumn(Lupicia) and Oh! Canada(David’s Tea).

Caramel & Rum did not let me down as well. The sweet caramel scent was very rich and sweet. It was very similar to Dilmah Caramel. Rum… I don’t know that part. But if anyone wants to have something sweet but without caffeine this would be perfect.

A pretty good rooibos tea. I think it would be pretty nice on a crisp, autumn day.
