Aida

Black Fruit Blend by Mariage Frères

An operatic composition of Mediterranean citrus fruit. Fragrant, well-balanced.

Google automatic translator says:

“At its mere mention, Verdi’s opera, created for the holiday opening of the Suez Canal, carries on the banks of the Nile.
replied the composition of various citrus in the Mediterranean which are distinguished, among a profusion aromatic orange tip of bergamot and bitter tea This very fragrant and balanced promises a great final.”

Aïda …is a tea opera dedicated to the glorious citrus !

I am not able to identify each type of citrus present in this blend but they are a lot : for sure bergamot, lemon (candied probably) and bitter orange.

It’s like an orchestra where each flavor is playing its musical score with respect and harmony with its citrus collegues.

Without being exceptional, the black tea base is nice, strong enough to welcome all these fantastic flavors.

Recommended to citrus lovers for sure

The more I drink it the more i love it : It’s really an elegant earl grey spin off :)
I need to say it is near to mélange Hédiard regarding the scent of the dry leaf BUT so different after brewing – both are lovely but Aïda is the most elegant.

Wow, just realized I got at home right now samples from none less than 3 different Mariage Fréres teas named after operas : Prince Igor and Aïda (thank you Ysaurella) and Elixir d´Amour (thank you toitoi!). And I knew there were a few more operas, just went checking and they got even more teas named after operas – Madame Butterfly, Parsifal, Bal Masqué, any more? Plus of course, cheating a bit Swan Lake and Thé à L´Opèra. Hmm.

Aida, I am not going to rate right now, if I can manage to not rate it. I think I brewed it too cold and just come out wrong. It is totally and completely a citrus tea and for me, weirdly this would be a russian tea – citrus and black tea (Far more than Prince Igor, which is to me is a very french tea!). Lemon and oranges, and somehow, maybe because of the temperature used, so sweet! Amazingly sweet (no sugar added or anything) on its own. Another tasting note when i brew it hotter.

Smells wonderful. Tastes fruity but nonspecific citrus at first. Beragmot is not an overpowering note. A smooth blend. Mom tasted florals but I just get mainly fruit. Lemon and orange, yes. Smooth hints of bergamot in the aftertaste. Nice hot, very nice cold. Thanks so much to Ysaurella I can try this lovely blend! This definitely goes on the shopping list!

Excellent! This is one of my favorite Mariage Freres combinations: it’s like a smoky Earl Grey. It is rich, strong, and elegant.
