From Mariage Frères

The heritage of “sweet treats”—gourmandises—is more than a mere childhood memory.
The evocative flavours of those creamy, fruity, wonderfully smooth and mouth-filling delights can still inhabit our lives. Rediscover the warmth of childhood treats through a succulent yet mischievous new composition—a fountain of youth concocted from red tea flavoured as tarte tatin.
It has been lovingly wrapped in a colourful, paper-covered canister with decorative silver motifs harking back to the blissful days of yore.

Another Héritage Gourmand blend to try tonight! These samples came from boychik and before that, they came from CharlotteZero. Thanks to both of you for the opportunity to try these coveted teas! This one is based on Tarte Tatin, which is basically an upside-down apple tart that’s baked in butter and sugar. Om nom nom! The base is rooibos, and there are pieces of dried apple as well. Dry scent is rooibos (woody, not medicinal) and caramel with some sweet cooked apple notes. I steeped about 2 teaspoons for 5 minutes in boiling water.

The liquid smells fairly strongly of rooibos, but it’s not the medicinal sort so I’m okay with it. There are also sweet cooked apple and caramel aromas. The apple flavor here is very nice, although I would call it more of a fresh and somewhat tart apple rather than cooked. There’s a touch of caramel and a definite buttery pastry note. I think this one would be amazing with a touch of sugar, but I find that I don’t like the taste of sweetened teas these days, so I’m going to forego that option. Very good rooibos blend! :)

thank you charlotteZero for sending this one my way. I haven’t had an opportunity to try out many rooibos blends from MF, so this one was on my list – especially given that it’s an apple sort of tea. I will have to try steeping this a little longer next time to coax out more of the buttery apple flavour, but this one was a win in my books tonight. I have really been loving this cup while watching a bit of tv and trying figure out how to sleep and get up tomorrow. haha

Why must the heritage gourmand collection only come in tins?! As lovely as they are, it just makes things so expensive

Ok, last MF tea out of the samples CharlotteZero sent me!

I saved this one as a rooibos blend didn’t excite me, especially an apple one. But holy crap this surprised me! It was soooo good. I really loved that is was like an apple pie or tart but without the cinnamon. The rooibos in this was delicious as well. I will definitely be ordering this one. This one was my second favourite out of the collection next to Cannele.

I am so sad to see these teas go. Excited to make an order one day!

Here is the last one from the Héritage Gourmand collection. This is a nice apple tea with some slightly savory/buttery notes. At first I could have sworn that there was cinnamon in this because it smelled very sweet. Anyhow, this is really very good, and I am really happy with the Héritage Gourmand collection as a whole.
