Dragonwell Green Tea

Green Tea by Mark T. Wendell

China’s most famous and highly prized green tea is hand picked in the Hangzhou region, and our special grade is rarely available outside of China. Its tender, flat green leaves produce a light emerald green liquor with a most intriguing aroma of sweetness and vegetative taste.

Opening the package, the dry leaves smell grassy and have a perky sweetness about them that I’m eager to try (too much time spent drinking roasted and musty green teas has drawn me from teas like this). Two teaspoons of leaves, two cups of water, and three minutes later, I had a pale green brew with a much deeper aroma than the dry leaf had. Deeper, yet still as sweet, the grassy notes linger as well.

Deliciously smooth. The grassy flavour does not overwhelm, as some greens are apt to do. For such a lightly flavoured tea, the brew seems to carry a moderate amount of thickness to the mouthfeel. However, even those light flavours are complex by themselves, making each sip a lingering pleasure, if left to settle on the tongue.

The sweetness and delicacy of the brew leave one with a very refreshed feeling, and it is a very enjoyable tea to drink. I gladly give it a 77 out of 100 on my personal enjoyment scale, and would certainly recommend it.

One of my favorite afternoon teas. Dragonwell to me is the king of green teas. This one is very fine. It makes a very substantial cup of beautifully scented and tasty tea. It is my tea of choice if I am working on a project that needs my absolute concentration. A small purple clay teapot with a teaspoon and a half of Dragonwell refilled periodically with hot water takes me through the afternoon. The scent alone is worth the price.

This is a staple in my tea cabinet. I never run out of this one!! Dragonwell to me is like ambrosia/medicine. My body loves it as well as my senses and my taste. It just feels so good drinking it in the afternoon. I sometimes forget I’m drinking it and wonder where it went!

I often get a second steep off the leaves which is less grassy and rarely a third but it still shines.

Just finished another fine cup of MTW Dragonwell. I like to drink it out of a small cup to let the pot brew a bit. The first half cup is light and hot and as it cools in the pot it gets stronger. It’s never bitter, it just keeps improving right down to the bottom of the pot. The grassy smell and the pleasant taste are complimented by the wonderful feeling as the tea takes hold and I sit here saying to myself, this is really fine tea and the world is alright. 3 min minimum steep time and proceed from there…
