From Menghai Tea Factory

2007 Menghai Dayi 7262 Ripe 357g
Blend with grade three material inside, buds were scattered on the surface of the cake. This tea is comparatively light fermentation, so it enjoys pure, high aroma with a light lotus fragrance and thick, strong taste. After several years of storage, its taste has become more rich and complex. This tea, like 7572, has been regarded as the standard against which ripe Pu Er tea is judged. Good for storage and investment. The longer it ages, the better aroma and taste it will become.

Classic shu production from Menghai Dayi and it is viewed as one of Dayi’s “lighter fermentation” cakes. Many golden buds and tips spotted on the outside of the cake. Smelling the dry cake, there is a pleasant enough aroma and no signs of smoke or fermentation. Dark burgundy tea soup with a clean enticing aroma. First sip is smooth and mellow. Not a great deal of depth or complexity in the taste profile (primarily creaminess, sweet wood and earthiness) but the cup is wonderfully smooth and mellow and offers great comfort and warmth and offers a nice finish. This is batch 701, the first batch produced in 2007.

So, this is my first shou.. It’s super dark when brewed and has a smoky/mushroom flavor on the first few steeps, which gets sweeter as the session progresses. I got to try out my new gaiwan and take shou shots out of my tiny cups :P
Steeped very short for five steeps then extended slowly – I didn’t record the times, so I’m not sure. Overall, very nice shou and I’ll be able to get another session out of my sample :D
