Organic Sencha

Green Tea by Mighty Leaf Tea

Organic Sencha is a classic Japanese green tea drank and enjoyed daily. Deep-green, natural leaves produce Organic Sencha’s delicate aroma and its smooth, sweet tasting vegetal flavor. The beautiful, unrolled green leaf resembles pine needles and is good for multiple infusions.

I am visiting my parents for the first time since last Christmas and I found out that my Dad has barely touched the green tea set I got him last year, in fact this bag of sencha was not even opened. I’m not annoyed, but will probably get him something other than tea for the next holiday. ;-)

I steeped it in a very coarse way, water heated up in the microwave and I don’t know what temperature it was. So, I don’t really feel like I made it well enough to actually assign a rating to it.

The leaves are a bit thicker and coarser than many other senchas I have tried, which makes me wonder if this is some kind of a late harvest sencha. The flavor was very mild, vegetal and slightly more sweet than bitter. I was able to get two steeps out of it.

Overall, nothing amazing but drinkable. Due to the very warm weather I don’t anticipate drinking a lot of hot tea this week, but I have scoped out a tea house in Washington DC I want to pay a visit to.

Tea of the mid-morning here… I got this for Dad last Christmas and he has barely touched it, I don’t know why. I think he likes the cheap stuff in the teabag. :)

Even though this is a year old it is still pretty tasty, broth-like and reminds me of spinach. I like it! See previous notes for more details.

Another treat from the quiet life! I haven’t been wanting Sencha since the Harney and Son’s Matsuda’s Sencha fiasco, but today this sounded pretty good. This is one of the better senchas I have had – extremely buttery and only slightly salty/vegetal. The tea is fairly full-bodied for a green, but still maintains a nice lightness.

I cold-brewed up a pitcher of this mixed with a few heaping spoons of spearmint and the result is very refreshing! The sencha comes through as very buttery and smooth, not at all vegetal and the mint is just right. I’m not usually into iced tea, but this won’t be around for long!

Smooth, slightly sweet, slightly briny and broth-like. I’ll just have to see how this stands up to multiple infusions.

Has a smooth, creamy, yet light flavor. A bit disappointing and just an average green tea.
