Aloe Serenity

My 1st Mighty Leaf loose tea! And what a unique tea at that… A friend from Prayer and Share was telling about her and her husband’s cruise to Aruba and their trip to an aloe plantation and that reminded me that I had this!

The only experience I’ve had w/ injesting aloe is aloe juice. And it’s grrrooossss- and the thick texture doesn’t help.

1/2TB of leaf per 6oz of water. Hot and clean.

Another pretty tea to watch! The aloe and rose make the green tea not just a typical green tea. Once steeped, the liquor is a golden color.

The aroma is that of the raw leaf- floral, sweet, vegetal, and something else… the aloe I’m sure.

Yay! The flavor is exactly what I expected based on the aroma of both the raw and steeped leaf. The light floral notes and vegetalness from the green tea blend well (thank God) w/ the aloe which is sweet… but not a fruity or honey like sweetness. The texture is smooth, but the mouth feel is a little different… thicker. Will definitely be buying this!

The liquor

I actually forgot I had this until this morning while looking around in my tea cabinets. I know that isn’t exactly a ringing endorsement of this tea but I do have a lot of stuff!

This is kind of a curious blend. It contains aloe for digestion and inulin – I had to look that up. The inulin is a polysaccharide which is slightly sweet and is also supposed to increase bacterial flora.

So anyway, this is obviously meant to be a theraputic-esque tea but it doesn’t taste too bad either. The chinese green tea is mild (I believe it may be a dragonwell) and I don’t mind the taste of aloe. If you’ve never had it before you might find it a bit weird. There is a nice touch of sweetness here and the rose petals are not too numerous, just enough to add a touch of floral. I rather like this. I might have to try it iced.

As for the other ingredients: natural flavoring, who knows what that means and there is sugar in here as well.

Amount: 3 teaspoons
Additives: none
Water: 170 degrees, 1 teapot full, filtered water
Steep Time: a little over 1-2 minutes
Served: Hot

Notes: Adding german rock sugar, 1 scoop, brought of floral flavors and smoothed the grassy flavor. 2 minutes seems the better time, although the package suggests 3 and we will have to try that next time. Speaking of the packaging the round Mighty Leaf tin should be avoided, I found it hard to grab without having the top decorative cover come off (not the actual lid keeping the leaves in), as you must grab the bottom to avoid this. Also the metal fitted top lid that keeps the tea leaves in was hard for me to open without spilling leaves. I recommend this tea as it was a great green tea, however don’t get the decorative Mighty Leaf round tin.

Flavor: soft green tea, a bit grassier on the 2 min brew

Aftertaste: none
Liquor: mostly clear with a hint of green cloudy as it brewed longer

Yuck.
