Best Ceylon

Black Tea by Murchie's Tea & Coffee

A truly delicious everyday cuppa!

Lush, fertile land and elevations of up to 7,000 feet naturally allow Sri Lanka to house some of the finest tea estates in the world. The choicest blend of Ceylon black teas also stem from the abundant sunshine and monsoon rains of this region.

Murchie’s Best Ceylon is a blend of these aromatic teas, creating a full-bodied flavour that you must try.

Time for another comparison! I wanted to brew Murchie’s Best Ceylon, and then I realised I had some Tetley’s Orange Pekoe in the cupboard as well.

Let the comparison begin!

I brewed both for 3.5 minutes as I was worried about oversteeping/bitterness.

Tetley’s Orange Pekoe smells like burnt earth, with a lot of smoke infused. The liquor is dark brown, almost like coffee. It tastes pretty much like it smells. I can see why I would normally add a ton of sugar and cream to this before consuming vast quantities of it. It’s funny because this is a tea I grew up with, but coming back to it after a year of drinking loose leaf teas, it seems like a completely different thing.

Murchie’s smells richer and clearer, with just a touch of smoke. Tetley’s is a dirty forest fire compared to this campfire. This one is a clear amber colour, more like I would expect from a black tea. It tastes nice too. I could drink this without anything, but I think it would benefit from cream. Murchie’s Ceylon is very nice, although still not my favourite black tea.

Not bad. I just realized how much tea dust there is at the bottom of my cup. Maybe that’s why I think this tea is so bitter. Guess I should give my tea ball a quick rinse before I put it in my cup.

I hope someday that I’ll be able to tell the difference between different tea blends. I think that I can recognize Ceylon, but that’s probably from years of drinking Tetley’s Orange Pekoe. Darjeeling, Assam etc… Idek…

Mmmmmm. I tried this with cream instead of just drinking it black and wow… It’s pretty luxurious. Even though I accidentally steeped it for 6 minutes it doesn’t taste astringent or anything. I’ll have to keep this tea around for when I want a basic black.

Update: This does NOT taste good once it goes cold though. :| I need to learn to drink things quick, or use my tumbler.

Oh! Comfort tea! This is strong and just a biiit bitter in a really good way. I don’t know how to rate this, but this is the kinda tea I crave as base-normal. Mom Tea. Comfort tea. I bet next time I’m bummed I run to this with milk and sugar. :P

Morning comfort tea. My throat is still SO messed up. :(
