Prince Charles Blend

Black Tea by Murchie's Tea & Coffee

A strong, rich blend of UVA Highland, Darjeeling, Extra Choice Keemun and Pure Assam.

Originally blended to commemorate the Royal nuptials in 1981 of Charles and Diana, this blend is regal in its strength and depth of flavour. A touch smoky and astringent, the infusion is beautifully robust and dark.

I think I understeeped this because it’s far too weak. Or maybe I just rrrrreally want a coffee right now. :P

Late Sunday night I went on a shopping spree and snagged 7 teas from Murchie’s.com. They showed up today! This blend was one that a friend bought for me a few years ago so I thought I would start here.

I’m staring at Murchie’s description while I sample it. Is this a “strong flavourful cup?” Well, the first few sips taste like… black tea. But half a cup later and I can detect hints of smoke, and the rest of the blends mentioned, although I couldn’t tell you which flavour is what type of black tea. It’s good though. No cream or sugar required, although I’m certain I would enjoy it that way too.

Can’t wait to see how this compares to the rest of the black teas I purchased. I imagine my ratings will jump around as I get familiar with the flavours. I guess I can see why some people wait before reviewing.

I cold-brewed this for about 5 hours in the fridge and this was the first of many experiments to come! While this is one of the Murchie’s teas that I’ve always consistently enjoyed, this is smoother and mellower. Maybe I understeeped it as it almost feels like this is a green/black blend instead of all black.

Wow. Malty! Was it always like this, or is it just because it’s cooled a bit? I love the way this one smells. The whole thing is dark and kicks you in the mouth to make sure you’re awake! (Ok, maybe not that strong, but even a sip just takes over my mouth). This has got to be my favourite out of my Murchie’s teas!

I’ve got so many teas (and 15 new ones that I just ordered… :O) that I really need to make an effort to drink some of the “older” teas too otherwise I will NEVER finish anything off. :P
