Blood Orange Rooibos is a popular herbal blend. It has many levels of flavor ranging from the citrus orange with a light vanilla undertone, to the malty rich rooibos base. Blood oranges usually have pitted skin and are smaller than an average orange. The juice is sweet with a somewhat bitter aftertaste and less acidic than that of regular table oranges.

Ingredients:
Rooibos, orange peel, hibiscus, rose-hips, apple pieces, safflowers, rose petals, with orange, vanilla, and lemon flavor.

Additional Brewing Methods:
For 1 gallon of iced tea, bring half a gallon of filtered water to boil in a pot. Turn off heat, and add 3 tablespoons (1 oz of tea), let steep for 4-5 minutes. Strain the tea into the other half gallon of cool water and refrigerate. If you want to serve immediately, you can pour the concentrate over ice.

The orange zest is immediate and strong both dry and in the cup. This is the first NM tea that smells “off” to me—like it could include something artificial as it’s so cloyingly sweet, almost like a kids’ orange drink flavor a bit. I’m not saying it actually is artificial, just that that’s the impression I get from the aroma.

Oh, I’m bummed! Upon first sip I get that immediate “oh no it’s Celestial Seasonings from my childhood all over again” repulsion I had with Joy’s Teaspoon Almond Cookie. I guess I’ve figured out the main culprit—apparently I really don’t like apple bits in my hot tea (which is strange considering really tart, crisp apples are one of my very favorite fruits)! Sad. This isn’t a strike against the tea and how it’s blended per se, and now I’m wondering if I can give this a good home anywhere…I might try icing it first; maybe then I won’t mind that fruit-tartness so much.

I drink this tea most often as an iced tea. Rooibos makes a great iced tea because its rich and smooth.

Revising my score on this one down on second drinking. Maybe my tastes are evolving, but now the orange tastes pretty strong. Would not buy again – and unfortunately (being a new tea drinker), I bought a pound. If anyone would like to trade some, let me know. If you like rooibos and you like fruity teas, you’ll probably like this. I’m realizing fruity teas are not my favorite in most cases.

Backlog:

Maybe I’m just not a fruity tea drinker, but this tea was not that great imho. It was super strong and did not have much of a Rooibos base to me. It was just sweet and the “orange” flavor just didn’t taste right.
