Provence Rooibos

Fruit Rooibos Blend by New Mexico Tea Company

Flavory with a floral and fruity bouquet; perfumy lavender notes. Inspired by the ‘joie de vivre’ of France.

INGREDIENTS: rooibos, rosehip shells, rose petals, lavender, raisins, dried red currants, dried black currants, dried blueberries, and other natural flavors

ORIGIN: South Africa

EXTRA INFO:
An old French saying has it that to spend an afternoon in Provence is to spend an afternoon in heaven itself. The reason for this lies in its altitude above the Mediterranean, crisp clean air and lush foliage. Provence literally teems with gardens, pastures and woodlands. A walk down one of its many country roads will have you stopping to pick wild strawberries, herbs, spices and especially flowers. The abundance of both wild and cultivated flowers growing along the roadside gives the very air of Provence the aroma of a natural perfumery.

The flavour is too floral, and not enough fruit. It’s nice if you want rose rooibos, but I was hoping for something more like berries.

Strong rose smell out of bag.
Taste is of rose and rooibos. I’m losing any and all of the berry flavor somehow. Was hopeful for a bit more flavor (especially from certain ingredients in the blend) as it does seem a tad washed out.

Had some trepidation with this one because as much as I love love LOVE lavender (!!) I tend to hate rose (yeah really). But I want more “teas” I can drink after 5pm beyond just baked good/candyshop dessert offerings, and New Mexico has impressed me in the past with the freshness and quality of their tisane ingredients. I’m glad I risked it because I think I love this! It’s so clean and refreshing, yet it has a floral and fruity thing going on too. Not too astringent, surprisingly smooth. Really love that I finally have something in my repertoire like this, not a sugarbomb but totally delicious and satisfying as well as calming. Yay! Prospective bonus, it has a flavor that makes me think it’d be fantastic iced, and also like it’d be delicious mixed with gin. So. Fingers crossed! Even if that doesn’t live up to my hopes this is still a definite keeper.

EDIT: As with other NMTC stuff I’ve had, this resteeps alright too, yay.

Cannot say enough good things about NMTC. The quality is way up there, the customer service has been great (and my stuff’s come really fast and packed appropriately), and the price is oh so right (especially because they have free shipping). Love.

Out of the bag this smells like … bubblegum. It wasn’t what I expected, but I figured, hell, I’ll try it! I brewed it up and still got the heavy bubblegum scent. I took a sip and thought, “It’s like bubblegum, Flintstones vitamins, and rooibos had a baby.”

The fruity flavors tasted artificial and somewhat medicinal (like Flintstones vitamins & cherry Benadryl syrup.) I got no hint of the florals because the other notes overpowered them. I’ve loved everything I’ve gotten from NM Tea Co. thusfar, but this tea was just … not at all for me. :’(
