Sassy Strawberry’s Story

Sassy Strawberry was my first tea blend and hands-down my best selling tea. Whether hot or cold, the rich strawberry, mango taste is hard to resist. During our pop-up shops, we sample this tea and people always want to know my secret for brewing this tea. OK – I’m going to share it with you. Enjoy

Jenny’s Secret for Brewing Sassy Strawberry Samples

- Place 2 oz of tea in a large stock pot
- Add 2.5 quarts of water
- Turn on the stove to high and let tea roll boil
- Let tea “cook” for 10-15 minutes (this is the secret)
- Strain out tea with spagetti strainer
- While still in the spagetti strainer, press tea with the back of a spoon to get all the fruit juice out of the tea
- Add honey to taste

Sample I found out about on Steepster. I placed my sample order on 3/16 and paid through PayPal. It ended up costing $2.80. 3/21 I received notice it was being shipped. It arrived today, 3/23, and was promptly had for dessert after dinner. It came with a nice pamphlet about their specialty tea blends and a hand written note on the bottom of my receipt.

Post-Steep Additives: 1 tsp German rock sugar, sweeter, softens the hibiscus but not much else.

I think this would taste good as a sweetened iced tea as well.

Resteep: was amazingly just as good as the first go!

This herbal infusion was a lovely pink color in the cup. I tried it first without sweeteners and it was slightly astringent and rough but with a spoonful of honey the flavor smoothed out and the tartness of the hibiscus was brought to the fore.

Fruit punch is a good comparison, although without any additions it’s a very tart kind of fruit punch flavor. And like fruit punch, the taste is extremely simple: strawberries and… really, just strawberries. A tasty enough but ultimately not unique choice for fans of tisanes that are predominately dried fruit.

Added some honey this time… not really an improvement, the fruit flavors seem to clash with it somehow.
