From Nothing But Tea

A Japanese delicacy. Gen-mai Cha means brown rice tea. A blend of Bancha tea and partially roasted brown rice. Extremely pleasant.

Brewing Advice: One level teaspoon per mug, add hot but not boiling water (80 deg C). Steep for two minutes.

Had this at bamd rehearsal last night. It was warm and comforting (our bandroom has a heating problem and the fans are always full blast). The tea itself was smooth and vegetal and the rice gave a nice nuttiness. It did feel a bit thin though, I was expecting a thicker mouthfeel.

I’m not impressed. I was hoping for something similar to Tea Pigs’ Popcorn Tea, and this isn’t in the same league (actually if Tea Pigs’ league exploded this tea wouldn’t hear the bang for a few days.)

The green tea taste is bitter, and I’ve tried multiple steep times, temperatures, and leaf amounts to try and get around it – to no avail. The nuttiness from the rice is very weak. I’m regretting buying a 100g pouch, to be honest.
