Daily Sencha – This second harvest green tea is an above average quality sencha, far and away better than what you will find in your local grocery or health food store. Harvested in June, the tea plants of this green tea consist of a 95% Yabukita/ 5% Sayamakaori-Ooiwase indigenous mix. If you are new to green tea, this would be a good starter tea. Fresh from Japan.

Having a cup with my favorite breakfast: a scrambled egg on top of a bowl of rice. The tea is a gentle wake-up from a weird night.

Brewed the new and improved version of this tea, made from a blend of Kyushu leaves. A very good tea, all round, with a pleasantly vegetal taste in the first brew, and a deliciously-grassy and astringent second brew. At the price, an excellent value!

First infusion — 5 g. per 8 oz. water, 65 deg., 1 min.

Second infusion — 5 g. per 8 oz. water, 65 deg., 1 min.

Third infusion — 5 g. per 8 oz. water, 65 deg., 5+ min.

I brewed this tea for about a minute, longer than that it becomes too strong. It’s very good but it has a subtle bitter aftertaste. It’s not as sweet as other senchas I have tried.

It’s been a while since I have drank this (I have been consuming other teas that have been building up in the cupboard). Like putting on a soft, broken-in shoe, this tea means comfort!

Well it looks like I have a new personal favorite. This particular Sencha has that full-bodied/grassy taste that I’ve become fond of and visually it’s a cloudy dark green.

It can get a bit ‘iffy’ if steeped longer then one minute, though.

Bog standard green tea here. Not much in the way of aroma, kind of sweet, but more astringency than what i’m use to. I often blend this up with matcha which lifts the flavor out of the doldrums a bit.

This is the green tea I drink nearly every day. It’s fussy but when perfectly prepared has the grassy sweetness that is what I love about sencha.
