From Peet's Coffee & Tea

Our finest blend of “second flush” Darjeelings. Full-flavored with a muscatel aroma and a lingering finish.

This is our finest second flush Darjeeling tea selected from the hundreds of samples offered at the Calcutta auctions. The competition for the handful of top quality lots can be intense, and prices follow quality. We buy our tea from the auction through an exporter with whom we’ve worked for many years. He sends us samples from each upcoming auction and we give him bids on the lots we prefer. Darjeeling Extra Fancy Kalimpong has the classic muscat grape character, with complex floral notes and a lively, brisk astringency. “Kalimpong” is not an estate name, but a town on the Eastern edge of the Darjeeling tea area that at one time was a stop on the ancient trade route between India and Tibet.

I went to the foot doctor today and this was my treat to myself for being a good patient! There is a Peet’s nearby.

I wasn’t expecting much but this was really good, esp. for a 2nd flush darjeeling. I tried to take the tea sac thing out after about 3 or 4 minutes had passed, I didn’t want to oversteep it. The tea liquor was a burgundy color and it was deep and woody in flavor, with a nice fruitiness and a hint of muscatel. It wasn’t too astringent or pungent at all, which can be an issue with 2nd flushes. I would happily drink this again, it was good!

PEET’S for FEET’S

Azzrian

LOL Bonnie!

TeaBrat

I wish Peet’s had a tea that helped feets… the doctor says I might need surgery. :(

Missy

D’oh hope it gets better soon with out the need for surgery.

Kittenna

Ack! Surgery terrifies me, so that sounds awful :( Hopefully you can avoid it.

TeaBrat

I’m terrified of surgery too so I’m trying very hard to avoid it!!!

Ninavampi

Ugh… Surgery… Hope that you can avoid it! I almost had to have surgery on my foot as well… Or rather I should have surgery and I am avoiding it as much as I can!

As much as I have been consuming this tea at the office, lately, I think I need to bring in some tea of my own…loose leaf, preferably…maybe once they give me a desk…

Somewhere in that mess, I broke 1000 Tasting Notes. Yay!

gmathis

1000 goes pretty quickly, huh?

Spencer

It goes much faster, when I start drinking cups of multiple types of tea, rather than large pots. I do not have a teapot at the office, as I do at home, so I end up making only two cups at a time in my travel mug, which also prompts me to vary what I am drinking, more frequently.

Messed up my timer, so my steep time may have been off. I’ve had this a few times, and have yet to be wowed by it, but have also yet to be disappointed by it. This time seems a bit understeeped, but I’ve definitely oversteeped this tea in the past. I’d say more experimentation is necessary with this one.

This is a really fine and consistent Darjeeling. For many years it was my daily tea. It is smooth and deep without being bitter. While I love the first flushes, this tea has the depth that I love on a daily basis.

Steeped as directed (boiling water, 4 min). Aroma was wonderful, was looking forward to exploring it. But tea was slightly bitter (though above average overall). Will try again at 200 for 4 min.
200/4: lighter flavor, same bitterness
200/3.5: more of both
190/4: good flavor, least bitterness
Cannot figure out this tea. Did I get a bad batch? Can’t seem to escape that bitterness.

Tried and tried but finally dumped it. What a bummer.
