Lullaby Time is one of my recent purchases of boxed herbals to drink in the evening. I saw no fewer than six “sleepy time” herbal blends at my local grocery. I’ve had the official Celestial Seasoning’s Sleepy Time Tea. I picked the store brand to try this time.

Sight
Dry leaves: Spring green and lighter with cream and tan.
Wet leaves: Bright green with yellow and brown.
Tea: Light yellow brown.

Smell
Dry leaves: Spearmint and sweet.
Wet leaves: Muted spearmint.
Tea: Spearmint with a touch of chamomile.

Taste
Mostly spearmint. Not super mint. Softened by chamomile. Perhaps a hint of citrus.

I keep forgetting that I like this tea. I keep thinking it’s either too chamomilely or too minty. I keep forgetting that the two are well blended. I need to remember and drink this more. This was my reading-in-bed tea last night.

I read two more chapters of Beautiful Creatures last night. The story is picking up and it’s a little better. It’s a bit odd to see a like-struck and moony boy for a main character and a girl who is brushing him off. I’ll be putting Beautiful Creatures to the side a bit because I finally got For All the Tea in China from the library today and it’s a two week check out so I need to get reading. It looks like a short book. But I’m not a good non-fiction reader.

So-so but at least nicely spicy Mexican food and a cheap tequila fish bowl margarita last night for Cinco de Mayo led to an upset tummy which led to not being able to sleep. I thought a cup of this might be soothing. It was. It tasted a bit muted though. And I fell asleep on the couch with about a 1/4 cup left.

Backlogging. Two nights ago.

Woke up in the middle of the night. Couldn’t get back to sleep. Drank a mug of this and read. I always forget this tea is more minty than chamomile. There is a distinctive spearmint but the chamomile and other herbs bring it back from being overwhelmingly spearmint.

Backlogging. Four days ago, the same day as the previous tealog.

More chamomile mild-ing the spearmint this mug.

I had a cup of Lullaby Time late last night while reading before bed. I steeped the full 5 minutes again. Not too much spearmint, not too much chamomile. I don’t like it as much when it cools too too much. Some flavor comes out that I don’t like. Maybe I just don’t like lukewarm chamomile. But good and soothing while sipping hot. Nearly finished the whole cup that way.

Likes steeped 5 min.

Backlogging.

A mug late at night before bed to help me sleep.

Backlogging.

Minty and chamomile-y and good late at night.

Backlogging. Very late at night Wednesday.

Another late late night cup of Lullaby Time was had. I steeped it 1 minute longer than the last time. At 5 minutes, it was similar to at 4 minutes with less spearmint, more chamomile, and a softer taste. I definitely prefer it at 4-5 minutes rather than the strong spearmint taste at 3 minutes. I should also note that I drank this cup rather quickly and it was quite hot the entire time.

Ideal steep time: 4-5 min.

I had a cup of Lullaby Time really late at night on Saturday. I got home from my family’s after midnight and after I’d gotten stuff I needed to do for the morning done, I wanted to relax with some tea and tv before going to bed. I steeped it a minute longer this time. Oddly, less spearmint. I could taste the chamomile a bit. Maybe it muted the spearmint.
