Japanese Cherry is green Japanese Sencha flavoured with natural cherry. This is a traditional and classic way to enjoy all the health benefits of green tea, with a different, rather exciting flavour. Sencha is Japan’s most popular Green tea, harvested in the spring when the leaves are young and growing rapidly. It is a good quality tea, a deep emerald in colour, with a delicate, sweet, natural grassy flavour. The brewed tea is a clear, bright, yellow-green.

To enjoy at its best put one rounded tsp of Japanese Cherry per person into a pot or Mug Infuser. Add fresh, boiled water that has been allowed to cool for 2 mins. Brew for one min and serve without milk. The leaves can be re-used several times, with shorter infusion times.

I keep thinking there is something I am not getting about green tea. I’ve had two today — the other one I have to add to steepster before I can review, I guess nobody is into lychee green tea?!? — and they don’t taste like much. Now I’m trying to remember have I ever liked green tea?

I was so excited about this one, from Sil, that I have been holding on to it until the mood was right. I mean, Japanese Cherry sounds so beautiful. Now I should add that I’m trying to drink this without any sugar. The brewed tea is clear, pale yellow. There is indeed a slight cherry aroma and a slight cherry aftertaste. Aside from this, I am not getting much. It is mostly warm water with cherry aftertaste. I doubt sugar would do much here but let’s see. ..

I was right. Sweet water with cherry aftertaste. The cherry is so barely there that it tastes even more faint than those vitamin waters, if you ever had them. Someone remind me why I’m drinking this?

I steeped for one minute, about a rounded teaspoon (that measure sounds a bit vague to me) like it says here on Steepster. Water 2 minutes off boiling. I even timed that. Not much is happening in the cup. Sorry. Am not a big fan of warm water that I have to pay a lot of money for. Granted I didn’t pay for this, Sil shared it with me, but it is quite possible I would have bought it.

I’m willing to give green tea a good honest try and to be fair i will try a few more but so far it’s failing in the flavour department.

If you’re having issues on tea delivering in the flavor department for you, try more leaf next time! There are definitely some people who just need more leaf to make a satisfactory cup of tea. Or go ahead and steep it for longer. Play around with your parameters… the ones provided by companies are just suggestions, and everyone’s tastes are different.

Thanks, I will try! I am afraid they’ll go bitter though. Kokomo green ruined me for green tea :) I will try again tomorrow or tonight.

It shouldn’t go bitter with more tea. It will go bitter if you steep it too long. More tea, not more time, to make a stronger cup.

My answer is always add more cherry, but that’s just how I roll. Personally, I like Chinese green better than Japanese green.

It’s finally starting to feel like spring, so a sakura tea seemed appropriate.

Dry leaves have a very heady, sweet cherry-floral fragrance, and appear to have flower petals (rose?) mixed in. Liquor is greenish-gold and cloudy with a similar aroma to the dry blend. The vibrant cherry flavor is well balanced between fruity and floral, and doesn’t overpower the smooth sencha base. I got three infusions out of one teaspoon. Very pleased with my first PureAroma experience!

What didn’t you like about it? This is the first cherry/sakura green tea I’ve tried, so I don’t have anything else to compare it to.

I couldn’t get a lot of flavour out of it. I expected juicy cherry and I mostly got barely flavoured water. I tried as much as I could with the small sample I had. I added sugar, I steeped longer, nothing. I didn’t have enough to cold steep so I don’t know if tht would have worked

Hmm, interesting. I tend to go a bit heavy on the leaf and light on the water, so I wonder if any of that made a difference.

Yah, someone did suggest overleafing but by that point I didn’t have a lot left. It is something to keep in mind in the future for sure.

Not citrus but it is fruit and ‘Japanese’ themed so this should do nicely for my next pot. The packaging says to steep this tea with boiling water, that I did not, I imagine it would have been much too astringent.

It did smell like cherry and flowers but the green tea was much stronger which gave it a medicinal scent. Like cherry throat sweets. Not bad but acquired.

Once steeped this tastes very similar to it’s scent. The green tea is the most dominant with a dry grass appeal while the cherry is light and sweet which increases in the after taste. It’s not as medicinal tasting as it smells but it tastes more floral than fruity and rather perfumed. Or like some sort of cherry syrup. It’s a nice combination but not perfect, or at least not for my taste.
